- Technically the production of the weapon we’re covering in this video didn’t happen until 1902, but the design happened in 1898, so we’re going to count it. I’m of course talking about the Browning Auto 5. The first auto loading shotgun ever mass produced in the world! So come along today as we cover the history, dimensions, and we’ll even load it up and fire a few shells. I hope you enjoy!

This brings back memories. My Father always wanted one. In the 1970s, I bought him one. Paid 235.00 bucks. This became his favorite bird hunting gun. In his later years, sitting in my old hunting truck, he accidentally blew a hole through my truck floorboard! He was very embarrassed and didn't hunt much after that. When he passed away, I gave it to my nephew- his first grandchild with the stipulation that it stays in the family.
That floorboard had it coming! And I wholeheartedly agree! This was my grandfather’s before it was mine!
John Browning was a firearm genius. Look at how long the 1911, the 50 cal. and the BAR have been around. Interesting video! Thanks
Thank you very much!
There’s certainly a reason why the designs have existed and been produced for over 100 years! If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
My Grandpa had one. He loved it.
This was my grandfather’s shotgun as well! He was an avid sportsman! Fine weapon!
Never handled one. Very cool, Andrew!
Thanks Santee! You’d love it if the opportunity ever presented itself!
My favorite shotgun in RDR1 multiplayer.😃👍
Really if you ran with anything else, you were fitted with a marble hat and a pine suit! lol
Great gun design, mine was a Remington copy. It was issued with a 20 inch barrel for guard duties.
If it’s anything like the Browning, you’ve got a fine weapon! That 20” barrel is something I would prefer for handling reasons!
I agree. The old humpback is classic. John Moses Browning was a genius. It appears his designs are timeless. Let’s see a review and thoughts on a 1866, Uberti , Winchester replica. Take care Andrew!
I’ll have to get my hands on one! But rest assured, the most Wild West guns I get my hands on, the video will come soon after! Be safe, friend! Thanks for stopping by!
Beautiful, they don't make em' like they used to
Beautiful gun! Fine as aged wine!
BTW, I have to complement you on your sound-editing. I find most (all?) sound-editing on YT atrocious but on this one I barely noticed it ... which is the way it should be. Maybe a tiny bit less gain but simple, slow violin music of this genera really works for me.
Well done!
Yup, the old "Humpback" was quite an innovative weapon design for it's time. Always considered J.M. Browning as the most creative weapon designer ever. Pure genius. 👍
Your piece really beat ya up! I thought for sure your hat was going to fly off!🤠
Ah, the things one must endure to inform their subscribers. 😵💫😂
Appreciate ya amigo. 👍
He really cooked up a dandy! He was a brilliant mind in the world of innovating the technology in firearms!
Full disclosure, I really didn’t think it was going to kick like that with such a lightened load! Boy was I wrong! Given there’s not much to me, but still! I’m still always under the impression that the more a shotgun kicks, the more fun it is to master! Thanks for stopping by as always, Wade!
@@SaintAndrewTV Well, when younger, I was 5'11", 210 lbs, with a 48" chest, 17" arms, and solid as a bull. However, today, I've shrunk to 5'10", weigh 158 lbs, and all that muscle went away. My 20ga double barrel is barely tolerable, and it has a flat button plate. My 12ga pump is equipped with a Limbsaver recoil system. Field loads are OK, but 00 buck or slugs? Ouch!😵💫😖
Still no 45 Colt donor to be found. Everywhere I go it's wall to wall plastic 9mm pistols!🤮 I'm beginning to think people don't know what a real handgun is!🤔
@@anangryranger I’m currently at the 5’11” 140lbs mark! I never knew what it feels like to be built like a bull! But as you said, real handguns! As long as I can handle an SAA, I’ll never complain about my stature! I can handle to one gun that matters, that’s what counts!
Well I appreciate you doing to the looking anyway, Wade! The support never goes unnoticed, but I feel you with how modern the selection is a gun shops anymore! I usually end up a the used weapons hopefully finding a gem!
I like the steal his fit Victorian era videos.
Well then you’re in luck next week!
@@SaintAndrewTV great 👍🏼
Old Boy, you make me dreaming...Old, may be better times .....
I love the browning auto 5 I have a remington model 11. Remington paid to use the patten. They produced a5's I made 1 into a rhodesian a5 that holds 9 rounds. The 2 piece carrier will drop in without any modification if you want too change it.
I’ll definitely look into it! I was so confused when it came into my possession. I was aware of the “speed loader” but could not figure out why mine didn’t do that! Well I glad I found the answer! I was beginning to think mine was flawed in a way!
And for the record, 9 rounds sounds like a blast! Might break me in two, but a blast nonetheless!
@@SaintAndrewTV I did a video on my rhodesian a5 I took 2 magazine tubes cut and brazed them to make the 8 shot tube. I also made the full length handguard. I will say I priced the 2 piece carrier and decided it was not worth the extra expense to me. I get along good with the older style.
@@A.R.American1 I saw that you had a model like that! I’ll have to really sit down and look at all the modifications you did to it! The 2 piece carrier is the one I would maybe consider, but I’m not completely sold on the idea! Want to keep to integrity of an original Belgian made a5.
@@SaintAndrewTV the 2 piece carrier is not worth the cost to me. I couldnt justify the expense the gun runs flawless as is.
@@A.R.American1 well then I’ll hold off. If you’ve already done it and you’re saying it’s not worth it, then I’ll leave mine be! Thanks AR!
Mr Browning made some fine weapons. How about the S.W. Scofield for the next show & tell
I don’t have a Schofield unfortunately! But when I do, I will do it!
One of my buddies got a very good repro Scofield back in the late 90's, loved it and it shot very well. (I was jealous as hell LOL)
@@buckgulick3968 I am too to be frank!
@@SaintAndrewTV Thank 😊 🙏 ❤ Pard
Que the Sharps rifle/carbine video, cheers.
Probably the next rifle on the list to buy! Definitely a video coming with that.
Nice piece of weaponry also I found a m1887 shotgun for sale might give it a look
Thank you, sir! And peak at that m1887! I have his younger brother and it’s a fine piece!
They still make A5's, are they still essentially the same design or is it just the same name?
Mild changes. I’d say the 2 piece carrier is the biggest change, but essentially the same mechanically.
Could you show us how to cop the author morgan fit including the chapter one holster?
Hey as long as we're doing old/turn of the century west early auto firearms; perhaps one on the Bergmann Model 1896 pistol (as presented in the movie "Big Jake") I love the juxtaposition of the west during the turn of the century that combines the wild of the old with the looming certainty of the new era.
Granted it would be hard to acquire one for practical demonstration, but even a good in depth informational talk on the many types of weaponry appearing at the time from your viewpoint would be fascinating... Just my 2-cents.
Great Monday video!
I will definitely look into that one! I personally don’t know much about it, but if I do end of acquiring one, I will do a video on it!
I am an old man interested in your vignettes who has never played a video game other than Tetris. The notion of sitting still in front of an "artificial reality generator" when there is as an actual reality outside the door baffles me. The notion of actually sitting and watching someone else sit and play is so bizarre the idea of it threatens to liquefy my brain. But don't let that stop you - almost no content of YT is directed at my age range.
Anyway, I like your content ... except for the video game references.
Cool gun.
