    The Bhagavad Gita (Sanskrit , Bhagavad G t , "Song of God"), also more simply known as Gita, is a sacred Hindu scripture,considered among the most important texts in the history of literature and philosophy.The Bhagavad Gita comprises roughly 700 verses, and is a part of the Mahabharata. The teacher of the Bhagavad Gita is Lord Krishna, who is revered by Hindus as a manifestation of God (Parabrahman) himself,and is referred to within as Bhagavan, the Divine One. The content of the Gita is the conversation between Lord Krishna and Arjuna taking place on the battlefield before the start of the Kurukshetra war. Responding to Arjuna's confusion and moral dilemma about fighting his own cousins, Lord Krishna explains to Arjuna his duties as a warrior and prince and elaborates on different Yogic and Vedantic philosophies, with examples and analogies. This has led to the Gita often being described as a concise guide to Hindu theology and also as a practical, self-contained guide to life. During the discourse, Lord Krishna reveals His identity as the Supreme Being Himself (Svayam Bhagavan), blessing Arjuna with an awe-inspiring vision of His divine universal form. The Bhagavad Gita is also called G topanisad, implying its having the status of an Upanishad, i.e. a Vedantic scripture.Since the Gita is drawn from the Mahabharata, it is classified as a Smriti text. However, those branches of Hinduism that give it the status of an Upanishad also consider it a ruti or "revealed" text. As it is taken to represent a summary of the Upanishadic teachings, it is also called "the Upanishad of the Upanishads". Another title is mok a stra, or "Scripture of Liberation".[
    About the Author
    Swami Dayananda Saraswati is a contemporary teacher of Vedanta and a scholar in Sanskrit in the tradition of Sankara. Swamiji has been teaching Vedanta in India for more than five decades and around the world since 1976. His deep scholarship and assimilation of Vedanta combined with a subtle appreciation of contemporary problems make him that rare teacher who can reach both traditional and modern students. A teacher of teachers, Swami Dayananda taught six resident in-depth Vedanta courses, each spanning 30 to 36 months. Four of them were conducted in India and two in the United States. Each course graduated about 60 qualified teachers, who are now teaching throughout India and abroad. Under his guidance, various centers for teaching of Vedanta have been founded around the world; among these, there are three primary centers in India at Rishikesh, Coimbatore, Nagpur and one in the U.S. at Saylorsburg, Pennsylvania. There are more than one hundred centers in India and abroad that carry on the same tradition of Vedantic teaching. In addition to teaching, Swami Dayananda has initiated and supported various humanitarian efforts for the last forty-five years. The most far-reaching of these is the establishment of All India Movement for Seva in 2000. Awarded consultative status with ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council) by the United Nations in 2005, this organization is devoted to serving people in the remote areas of India, mainly in the field of Education and Health Care. Swami Dayananda Saraswati has also promoted several international events and participated as a speaker in several global forums, among which are: the United Nations gathering of NGO's, the UNESCO Seoul Global Convention, the United Nations 50th Anniversary Celebration, the Millennium World Peace Summit, the International Congress for the Preservation of Religious Diversity, the Conference on the Preservation of Sacred Sites, the World Council for Preservation of Religious Diversity, the Youth Peace Summit, the Global Peace Initiative of Women Religious and Spiritual Leaders, a Hindu-Christian dialogue with the World Council of Churches, and the Hindu-Jewish Leadership Summit.

    namaste swamiji, Being in a very responsible position, knowing to the world as elevated soul, you made fun of the caste of Drona as "daridra brahmana" (Poor Brahmin) and to that every one in the audience felt so happy and laughed at it. It is such a pity that you do not have any idea about Drona. If he wanted he could have taken Panchala and became a king. Poor that you do not know his power. It only showed that you have such a shallow knowledge about the characters. The esoteric/ spiritual meaning of Bhagavad Geeta can only be comprehended if you have an overarching understanding of entire Mahabharata, its morals, characters, their roles etc. Even though caste system can be seen as redundant, you were mocking at a set of people. Pity you. Great teachers remained the so called "daridra brahmana" because of greedy rich people( let them be teachers, sadhus, peetadhipathis or kings, rulers or business people. Probably, you may not understand this. Samskritam

    • @parameswaran18
      @parameswaran18 Před 9 lety +3

      The characters in the Mahabharatha are complex. Nobody is purely good or evil. Krishna alone is above both good and evil. In understanding these incredible characters, we can increase our understanding of human nature, and most importantly, our own minds. According to what I understood, Swamiji was mentioning the fact that they were "brahmins" because they did not behave or conduct themselves like Brahmanas should. And I agree with him. That is the case with most "brahmins" today. If one cannot pursue the lifestyle of a true Brahmana, then they should stop identifying themselves as "brahmins". To be a true Brahmana is a great thing, it involves years of rigorous learning of the scriptures, pursuing Brahmavidya exclusively despite the fact that you cannot earn much money from it, sometimes they had to beg also. That is why they were respected so much. Now people are ambitious for power and money, follow different professions and still call themselves "brahmins". Swamiji is absolutely right to ridicule this mockery.

    Better to study full philosophy-SIVAGNANABOTHAM of TAMILNADU ! Not studying MEIKANDAR's SIVAGNANA BOTHAM--12 aphorisms-(40 LINES)--means not knowing the real greatness of TAMILNADU !!

    Vyasa had great imagination , he stole a good mixture of Sankya, wisdom from ancient texts and wrote the film script with Krishna as the protagonist. Krishna was polygamous , who went to war, killed people. He has a lot to explain , especially considering that Vyasa says he is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. Mahabharata is a Harry Potter Theme Park.

    There is nothing holy or religious about this, It is entertainment. Story telling. This poor man thinks he is religious. Repeating some fictitious book, chanting and telling a story, nothing original. Repeat, repeat, repeat....
