      MousetrapGenius, if its a wild rat then get a trap, put cheese in the trap and then the mouse will go in and then it has to be something that scares them but then after you did that, give it a home.

    These are so great. Somehow the tiny "click" the little door makes usually wakes me up, and I can take the mouse in a nice car ride out into the woods before mouse-anxiety can last too long. The mouse is completely physically unharmed, and it was so nice to see in this video that the mouse did not even get worried enough to keep from eating the treat! This is a great way to live and let live, and incredibly simple to use.

    Im impressed with this, I used one thinking that I wouldn't catch anything and I woke up to a mouse in there! It looked like he was really trying to get out so I took it outside and watched and he never got close to being able to escape. Very simple yet effective. After I released him, my cats got him but I am going to continue to use this!

    Thanks so much for this video. I have already purchased one of these from a local hardware store but was a bit worried about how freaked out the little guy was going to get once he discovered he was trapped. I only keep it baited and set when i am home and awake for this reason. But it seems, from the video, that the level of distress will be ok for the mouse, in the short term at least, with this trap.
    Make no mistake, he comes out and runs around with me in the room now. At first he was afraid of me but it only took about 3 days before he realized "pssh...she is not going to hurt me". So it's only a matter of time before he gets in the trap, which I had originally baited with, what I now know is FAR too much peanutbutter.
    So...basically thank you for saving the mouse from that horrible sounded death by choking and for saving me from a life of guilt for having perpetrated it unwittingly upon him.
    Thanks much!

    Major problem I see with this design is that if the trap turns over for some reason the door will fall open and let the mouse out. Not a bad idea but needs a wide base to keep it upright.

    Thank you for promoting humane mouse traps! I had pet mice, and I always kept a few Mice Cubes on hand for when the clever little devils escaped. They worked so well, and to make sure the trapped mice were safe when I was at school, I put a little bottle cap full of water in the back.
    Mice Cubes are also great for transporting mice and keeping them out of the way when you're cleaning cages. And if you tip them upside down so they stay open and put them in the corner of a cage, they make good mouse toilets, too. ;)

    I remember, as a kid, watching an adult setting a spring-loaded traditional trap. It was so finicky and difficult; it took ages and the adult kept cursing and pinching his fingers, etc. Then the trap would often 'miss-fire' and fail to catch a mouse. Obviously, when it did work, mouse-agony ensued. As if that were not bad enough, someone then had to deal with removing the gore-covered body from the spring-trap. Lose-lose-lose situation.
    Hooray for Mice Cube! Simple and kind!

    I bought a series of live catch mouse traps and this was the only design that consistently caught anything. I even caught two mice in the same trap one night.
    It's a shame you didn't show the release, because the ease of release is one of the neatest features. I gently rolled the trap over to its side and then on its back. This resulted in the door staying open, allowing the mouse to leave the trap. Take a couple of steps back, and the little guy will make a break for it, which is what you want him to do.

      I watched a video where a guy had set up a trap that didn't drown the mice but would drop them in the bucket instead, and also set up a motion-sensing camera system that would cature time-lapse photos. He did this for a week. The first time the mouse fell in it took it a few hours to get out, but from then on it got out faster and faster, and by the end of the week the mouse decided going for the bait wasn't worth falling into a bucket and it stopped.

      ntm if u let it go outside it could go to your neighbors house, so not really doing anyone a favor. these mice live in the woods n fields, not human homes, if they came in to grab a bite to eat and scoop but excrete outside is one thing. but to use the notion of "law of nature" these mice are genetic flunkies if they squat in human homes .
      ntm all these "humane" animal freedom people. well why dont they go to woods and build mouse homes , like people do for birds. that in it self is preventing the "cruelty, but most of the humane type people are usually just butthurt christians and catholics who hate their god and think they know best.
      also look at it from human aspect, say if i was your friend and got in financial jam and u let me live with your for a while till i least got another job n some cash to movoe out, how long would it take b4 u evicted me, if i pooped n peed all over the kitchen etc etc lol .
      @ all the animal cruelty people, Human life style is cruel, 30-50 hrs + 4-5 days plus per week just to have place to sleep, food n water to drink, cosmetics etc to bath n clean . Rather then uniting to spam neg comments on animal cruelty why not figure out way n unite to reduce bs, like if most people work ~40 hrs 5 days week, maybe find a global solution so average is ~36hrs week slightly less hrs but much longer shifts but longer week ends .

    I just bought this trap, and I like its simplicity and the fact that it's cheap... so you can purchase a number of them. BUT THEY HAVE NO AIR HOLES IN THEM, and they are small, so I struggle to see how this is humane unless you release the mouse within a couple of hours of capture. I drilled 13 holes in the top myself, but this is a serious design flaw that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. Hopefully it works well, but I may not purchase more if I need to keep drilling the holes myself.

  • @pickles3128
    @pickles3128 Před 7 lety +1

    My only question is: does it work consistently? Mice are pretty smart, and I am pretty sure they'd notice their brethren getting stuck and take a mental note to stay far away from the trap after a while.

  • @taegra
    @taegra Před 8 lety +30

    It's really sad how many people claim that mice are not important, that you're better off just killing them (and especially the people who seem to take pleasure in this). If you live in an urban area where they are a serious health hazard and they have gotten destructive, then yes you should probably kill them. If there's any chance they've eaten poison, definitely kill them to prevent them from poisoning pets and wildlife. Overall I'm not opposed to kill traps, but there's absolutely no reason to attack someone who live releases rodents.
    Mice are important to every terrestrial ecosystem. Yes, wild rodents are health hazards, and they absolutely need to be removed from homes; but unless you live in the city you really don't run the risk of the mouse re-infesting another person's home by releasing it. Mice take shelter in human homes in colder months, but rarely infest in warmer weather unless the home owners are slobs or there is very little woodland area. Experiments with tagged mice have disproven the old myth that if you release a mouse within two miles of your home, it will come back. This is not efficient for the mouse, after all; mice in the wild are also accustomed to moving from place to place as resources and predators push them from one area to another.
    Mice also have a very high reproduction rate and a short gestation period because they are prey animals. They are an important food source for a huge variety of animals including (but certainly not limited to) foxes, weasels, birds, and snakes. Heck, you can name just about any predator and it probably eats mice. They also help with seed distribution, and mice feed on dangerous insects such as mosquitoes and cockroaches.
    Say what you want about mice, they're not useless vermin.

    • @billjoe39
      @billjoe39 Před 6 lety +1

      'Yes, wild rodents are health hazards, and they absolutely need to be removed from homes' scaremongering, meant to increase sales for pesticide, extermination companies......if an iota of that were true ( as mice come in contact with grain all the time) everybody would be dead now

  • @MousetrapGenius
    @MousetrapGenius  Před 11 lety

    Good question. They can't chew through concrete but they can chew through many things - including plastic. But for them to chew through it, there has to be a surface that is small enough for them to get their jaws around, and this trap doesn't have any surfaces like that. They can't just take a bite out of a flat wall.

  • @youthinkthatsbadcheckoutth6319

    honest question - how do you let it out? it seems like you'd have to use your finger to open the door - the same exit the mouse would have to come out of? seems like the availability for it to bite you would be pretty high considering the release point. Am I wrong?

    Absolutely Fantastic trap, I've used all the other humane traps and this is by far the best. They're cheap £5.99 for three from Amazon and I've caught 16 in three days in my garage. Been using chocolate covered sponge rolls in the end and a tiny bit just under the flap, so they can see how easy it is to get in. You know when you've got one as the trap steams up and it's easy to release, I put the into a mouse cage with a little houe then when I've got a few, I take them about 2 miles away to release. Friends think I'm stupid, but they're only trying to keep warm and eat, just like all of us, basically they're doing what mice do.

If I have one complaint, it's that the dark color of the plastic makes it kind of hard to see if there is a mouse in there from a distance (my "guests" move into the attic when it gets cold...it would be nice to just poke my head up and see clearly if there is a winner waiting for relocation without having to climb up and inspect up close). Thanks for the tip on the peanut butter too.

    It doesn't hurt to drill several small holes in the top of the trap either for better ventilation as the condensation can get really heavy in them.
    I'd also suggest wearing disposable or rubber gloves when handling the trap with a mouse in it and after letting it go. Remember, they're cute but they're also harbingers of disease like Lyme disease, Salmonella and Hantavirus. You need to put a weight on top of the cube so the trapped mouse can't flip the cube over on it's side - if the cube is flipped over on it's side the door opens enough for the mouse to squeeze through and escape. Also, some smart mice can apparently open the door from the inside of the trap by catching their paw nails in the small space between the the side of the door and the side of the cube (I've been trying to catch this smarty pants mouse the last 2 evenings - bait gone, cube (with weight on top) not flipped over, but no mouse!).

    I have used these successfully, but there aren't many stores that carry them. It is important to release the mice quickly, of course, and to check them regularly. One time I trapped a very frightened chipmunk, so I imagine they probably work for most small critters that would try to raid your kitchen.

    Best trap is the bucket one (the deeper the bucket, the better). On the micecube, if another mouse feels the smell of the bait and try to enter, it will free a previously trapped mouse inside. Another thing is that it won't catch a big mouse.

    Been using these for years. #1 - Don't use peanut butter. It's messy and it's unnecessary. A bit of pet kibble or a pinch of bird seed works just fine. #2 - Place it against a wall, preferably in a corner. Mice run along the wall. #3 - To release the mouse just flip it over so the door drops down and the mouse will run away. #4 - Clean by putting in a bit of bleach, soap, and water. Orient so the flap is closed and give it a good shake. Repeat and rinse. (This is why you should avoid p'nut butter.)

    I got the Mice Cube to help with some mouse problems I've been having with my truck and travel trailer, and it worked, but a word of caution: for those wanting to humanely re-release the mouse to the wild, be sure to check your traps often. I set mine up in the early evening, but when I checked on it by mid-morning (about 15 hours later), the poor little mouse died. I'm guessing the trap should be set just before going to bed, and then checked first thing getting up(?)

    If you don't want your finger in the way, take a large paper clip and un bend it except for a 1 inch bend on one end and an L shape on the other and then pull the bent end into the door area by hanging onto the L shape bend. This will open the door, keeping your fingers away from it.

  • @MousetrapGenius
    @MousetrapGenius  Před 11 lety

    Should be called the "Mouse Cube" not "Mice Cube" since it doesn't look like it will work for more then one. If another mouse comes along, it's highly possible to let the first one out again. That's why many live traps like "Tin Cats" have two gates that need to be crossed to get in.
