“They called me weak, like I’m not just somebody’s daughter” wrecks me every time.
That line makes my eyes water every time
Could someone explain this line? I feel silly asking this but I’m having a hard time getting it. My bad if this is simple. 🫠
@@queenofdragons_1244 Well I mean it is pretty self explanatory but it basically means that people constantly expect something out of someone and when you don't live up to those expectations then you're called, "weak" even though you're human too. (hence the line, "like I'm not just somebody's daughter)
She struggled a lot with depression at a very young age and at award shows, winning Grammys, Oscar’s , Britts ect she always thanks her brother not only for her Success but for keeping her Alive !!!
I actually didn’t know the full story, I knew she struggled but not to this extent. The world needs more Finneases

Billie has dealt with depression and mental illness since she was a young teen, after a bad injury that ended her dancing career she genuinely thought her life was over. Then Finneas asked her to sing Ocean Eyes for him because he felt like his voice didn’t fit it well, and that tossed her into stardom almost overnight. She has spoken about trying to kill herself whilst on tour, one of the few times her and her brother weren’t sharing a hotel room. She has Tourettes which also adds to her troubles because she tries to keep it hidden while on stage, she isn’t physically strong due to her dance injury so she’s prone to breaking her ankles and pulling tendons in her calves. She’s had so many issues and Finneas has always been there, he is her favourite person. He once said at an award ceremony that people often say that he’s ’more than Billie Eilish’s brother’ but he wanted to set the record straight that all he ever wanted to be was Billie Eilish’s brother.

@@Ghxstyii yes, since she's suicidal, getting everything she wants is for her to succeed in killing herself. which is why she says "not what you'd think" because people might think she's talking about fame or success or something like that (eta: yup the guy in the right thought exactly that lol)

in the first verse she says “i got everything i wanted, not what you think” because the dream was her stepping off the golden gate bridge, hence what she wants is death. very sad idk if you guys caught it! this song is one of my faves by her but i also love male fantasy & tv!! and more fun songs therefore i am & lost cause! :)

I was in tears the first time I heard this. It’s been a while since I’ve heard it again but me eyes are filling with tears again.
I listen to this nearly everyday ( and all of her songs) and I still have the same feeling
what's amazing about this video is that everything in the background is synced with the music. like the reflection of the lights on the windshield 1:55, or literally trees in the background that pop up to the beat

What I love about this song is it’s her talking about how she’s really struggling but Finneas is always there for her and during the chorus that’s basically his words that he’s saying to her and you can actually hear him on the backing vocals in the background.

“And it feels like yesterday was a year ago” That’s the line where I felt fully seen in my depression for the first time. I was in a really dark place when I first heard this song and it helped me better explain how I was feeling to my husband. I bawled the first time I saw this video. ❤
When she says " jump off the Golden". The Golden Gate Bridge is in the background! Notice how the trees teliphone poles and street lights are all passing the car in time with the music!! Her attention to detail is incredible. Another reason she directs her own videos!

I’m not sure that you fully get the story. She dreamed that she killed herself (jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge) and no one screamed, they didn’t even notice, and they didn’t even care. They simply called her weak. But, when she woke from the dream, her brother was there and he told her as long as he was there, no one would hurt her. He wished he could change the way that she saw herself, and tells her that they don’t deserve her.

Having a brother 10 years older than me is the most beautiful thing. He loves me just because I exist no matter how old we are - we both wenth through abuse but our bond is unbreakable. I feel this song in my heart and bones.
This song hits me differently than any of her other music. My best friend has saved me so many times and grounded me when i went throught a lot of suicidal tendencies.. he saved me over and over. "But when i wake up i see you with me. And you say as long as im here no one can hurt you. Dont have to lie here but you can learn to. If i could change the way that you see yourself. You wouldnt wonder why you hear they dont deserve you."

Loving your Billie journey, thanks! I'd recommend "Xanny" and "Hostage" music vids, but also you gotta see her stripped down live vocals some time. I recommend their acoustic cover of Michael Jackson's "Bad" for Like a Version, or "The End of The World" for BBC Piano Sessions. Also, her live performance of Peggy Lee's "Fever" with the Count Basie Orchestra is something else. Cheers!

I love watching your journey ❤ this song is absolutely devastating but when I was at her show and she sang this it was such a beautiful collective moment. She dedicated this song to Finneas and when the chorus came up on the screens they put live footage from the fans. It was kind of healing everyone together, I get chocked up just thinking about it.

She honestly struggled with depression, cutting herself, thoughts of suicide, all kinds of things in the beginning of her Fame and that is actually what this song is about. Music brought her out of that and despite what people say about her, she continues to remain herself and be herself and her brother is there for her all the time. But yeah she did struggle with self-harm. She has body dysmorphia and a lot of other things that she very rarely talks about, including she had a p*** addiction. But anyway, great take on the video. Love it! Can't wait to see more. Billie Eilish is one of those artists that never lets you down no matter what song you listen to, you can relate to it in some way and apply it to your own life in some way and that is why her music touches so many people by the way, her new album drops on May 17th. Check out the song lunch It is definitely Billie at her core She even said in an apple music interview this would be the album that people would tell you to write but never release and that's what she did and now she's releasing it despite what people may think
General gist of the song: She wrote it for Finneas. It’s all about how with her depression and everything he’s always been there to talk her down and be her rock.
The first line about stepping off the golden relates to jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Billie deals with sleep paralysis, she actually had an episode where she jumped off the bridge
You might like "NDA", which she considers her darkest song. Also, once again, the video has practical effects that will give you an aneurysm!

Another example of the way that Billie and Finneas are old souls who have the ability to write so brilliantly that their work is relatable to a sixteen year old and a fifty seven year old. I love this family so much.💞

I think you guys should look a little bit into the back story of this song (and what "I got everything I wanted" really means), and then go back and listen (on your own or on the channel) to Listen Before I Go. It's an older song and hearing both of them gives a picture of her depression over time.
I'm a lot older than Billie is, and hearing an artist as young as she is actually write about these topics, knowing her fans her age are also struggling with similar issues, is incredible. I wish there was more of that when I was her age.

That's her dream car, and this track went on to win the record of the year Grammy. The siblings were in an interview arguing who among them is a better driver? I said Finneas because the last time I saw Billie drive, she drove straight into the Pacific Ocean.

My favorite song of theirs. another Grammy winning one-off song not on an album release just as 'No Time To Die' and 'What Was I made For' were. I like how the video is synched to the beginning beat. I have an entire playlist of fan remixes of the song, many are excellent. Challenger was her dream car but I read she has an electric Porsche now. Go Billie! be safe. Thanks again guys, great job!!
