    Great video. I have both the Wolf River coil and the Gabil but have never done the comparison that you have now done. So thank you. I have been impressed with the Gabil's performance for such a small "compromise" antenna. I now am using it indoors in my upstairs office on the Wolf River tripod, and using a single ~17' radial for 20 meters that's just a wire stung down a hallway. I've been amazed that it has worked so well. You've inspired me to hook up my WSPRLite device to try to get a comparison between the two antennas in indoor use (HOA restricted community).

    Hi Bob, I also have the WRC silver bullet 1000 TIA and the GRA-7350TC. Like you I will never part with the WRC, but purchased the GRA-7350TC as it breaks down to less than 12 inches. I ordered the 3/8-24 version of the GRA and can also use it in the WRC base. I also use both antennas in a mag mount on my truck. I used my vna to make a chart for the GRA from 80m to 10m and do a quick check with the SWR scan on my X6100. I have had fantastic results as well. I have also used both antennas with window screen and Faraday cloth with the WRC base. I have been trying bicycle mobile using a mirror mount on the handle bars, 18ft of RG-316 and the GRA-7350TC with and without a counterpoise with the X6100 on 5 watts. I ground the bike frame to the base and again had great results. The counterpoise did not make a change. On 20m I use a setting of "4" in the mag mount while "4.25" works on the bike. The GRA-7350TC goes in my backpack with no trouble and works well. Tim, VE3VTH.

      Well, wouldn't you know it, they sent me a sample......anodized and engraved. I tour it apart, and the RF connection is on the inner tube so it is not affected by the anodize. Bob, do you think there would be any benefit at all to mating the BD7IBI whip with the GRA-7350T base loading coil for use on the 10M-80M bands? The BD7IBI is sufficient resonant on 10M alone so the combo seems like it might offer an opportunity to 1) maintain fully portable multi-band POTA setup, and 2) an improved overall performance over the GRA-7350T alone. Never having used an adjustable loading coil, I've not experimented to see if what I'm suggesting is even possible. Really appreciate stumbling across your channel. Keep up the great work ! AI4ME

    • @HOAHamRadio
      @HOAHamRadio  Před 2 lety +1

      Dave, you are making good suggestions. A longer antenna, like the BD7IBI, on the GRA-7350T would improve performance 20 meters and down. You do then sacrifice some of the portability as you have a longer collapsible antenna to carry. The great this is, we have all kinds of options.
      I'm not sure if the Gabil can handle that extra weight, but I sure am gonna give it a try.

      @@msgaltman3075 I was at Hamcation today and someone came up to me bragging about their using the Gabil 7350 antenna on Winter Field Day. Said all of this friends were asking and admiring. Then he fired up and made contacts on 10 and 12 meters....so, I'm guessing good on the higher bands. Like I said, I've made a few contacts on 80, but I wouldn't buy this antenna if 80 meters was were I hung out.

    Thank you. Good video. Indeed it’s helpful. What software are you using for cat control? And that’s on a Yeasu 991a if I’ve seen that right from your previous videos. I have the 991a and having a heck of a time getting wsjxt to work with a MacBook usb. Realizing windows and ham seem to work better as I’ve been able to use ft8 on a 10yr old netbook that barely boot. Anyway I digress I was curious about the software you’re showing. It might be in a video you e made. If so if you. An point me there is be glad to watch. Thanks -73 de KK4GMR

      Ken, I'm using a RSPdx receive SDR connected to my PC, running SDRuno on my PC, Windows 10. Its a fairly involved setup. I haven't done any videos yet, but plan to some day. And, its the FT991A, also connected to the same PC.

    Besides a capacitor cap saving 15% power loss, someone needs to figure out how to stop the massive power loss from the coil.

    Did you test SWR on 2M?

      I did while on the tripod with HF radial set up. My memory says it was just under 3:1. I expect with a mag mount on metal it would be better; didn't have a mag mount at the time.

      Here is an Amazon link: amzn.to/3Pw7d8i They are also on eBay, sometimes less expensive -- you are looking for a Comet AD-35M
