I'm 47 and I can still do the windmill thanks to this commercial. I grew up poor on the mean streets, so I couldn't afford this set, but I was able to borrow a VCR and record the commercial. I watched it 100 times at least until I learned the windmill.
I'll always remember him in 1984 when he was being interviewed on the local news in New York about getting his big break on Silver Spoons. He was really excited and started singing the Billie Jean song. Haha
Most people don't know that Alfonso Rivero put out several albums and was supposed to be in New Edition but for unfair reasons he wasn't put in the group then he went on to be in Silver Spoons then on to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
He said in an interview that No one would cast him after the show because they just can’t see him playing anyone other than Carlton because he played him so good. Quite sad man imagine playing a part so well that people tell you you can’t play anyone else. They’re really missing out on a very talented man where if they gave him a chance they would’ve loved him
After purchasing this video back in the 80's, I quickly gained street credibility and went on to enjoy a successful career as a breakdancer! ! I will always be grateful to Alphonso Ribeiro for teaching me the art of B-Boy culture! Word!
This commercial was a year too late. In NYC 1984 was the peak of breakdancing and popping. 1985 the breakdancing craze was dying down in NYC. By 86 is was completely dead
@@charrua59 Yeah it was popular in other countries as hip hop and breakdancing was introduced to them around 1983 but NY was the epicenter hip hop at the time and it was completely played out in NY in 86 while it was still popular in other cities in the US
OH MY GOD! HE LOOKS TOO MUCH LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON! And, he's put alot of practice into his speaking abilities, very well versed. Taught pretty well by whoever taught him to speak about his (this?) product.
I had it as a fat red headed white boy in Kansas City. It did not launch my break dancing career......but thanks grandma! She also bought me that kickass garnishing set that you make a water melon into a shark and other cool stuff.
I do find it weird nobody seems to have this at all, or we would already have scans online of the booklet or even rips of the tape. I actually had this stupid thing. I was 8, I didn't really get much out of it.
I grew up in the Bronx and I don't remember ever seeing this commercial on TV. Looks like it was intended for the 'burbs. I do remember the MJ Pepsi commercial though.
Then you must not have had a tv.. J/k........ in the 70/80's everything was free to air transmission on major networks in all major/minor markets... so If the commercial was played on NBC, CBS and/or ABC in Upstate New York then it was played/broadcast on every TV in every area of NY (including the 5 Boroughs)... however, I remember seeing this commercial as a kid only 2 or 3 times at most.. it was played very sparsely so not many people saw it.. lmao
It was funny for me to see Alphonso Ribeiro as the white-washed, no rhythm, no style having Carlton because I always knew his as the kid who’s in bboy product commercials, commercials where he’s dancing with and keeping up with MJ himself, the kid who plays a rich kid’s cool black friend who can rap and break dance.
I remember seeing this as a kid & being told "we already have cardboard at home"
LMAO
that is so got damn funny and exactly what my mother would have said had I asked for Alfonsos Breakin & Poppin
😬🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know that feeling.
😂😂😂😂😂
He deserves a star on the walk of fame

LoL
That's awesome ! I remember learning how to pop lock and of course the Moonwalk 🎉
Alphonso Ribeiro is from the bronx NYC, the home of hip hop and break dancing. So of course it came natural to him.
What no way let me look it up be right back.
I knew I heard a New York accent in there, lol
This is the first time I noticed his accent. So used to him doing the Carlton voice almost wierd hearing the New York accent. Lol
When carlton could teach you how to dance for under $20. Priceless
This guy’s a LEGEND
I would pay $50 for this to be on my coffee table. Im calling the number and no one is answering.
They're all 💀...😂😂😂
Lol lol
Same here, I just got the ring ting.
He seems really confident in what he's selling.
So did the Jordanian until his wife divorced him.😮
Alfonso: Can you rap??
Rappers today: We mumble
Dang, he literally was on TV most of his life
I think he was literally born into it. Light starting to be shed on these things.
@xtrmst_01 hahaha he never said he was THE ONLY celeb that’s been on tv all his life. He never used the word ONLY! 🤦🏾♂️
Ricky Schroder had to learn those moves for a 1984 episode when Alfonso was on Silver Spoons.
Loved that show when I was a kid
I remember an episode of silver spoons where everyone thought alfonso was MJ.
He knew how to dance, even before his iconic role.
Would love to meet a person that learned how to windmill from this book 😂😂😂
Everybody on here talking about Carlton from Fresh Prince, and I'm thinking about Alfonso Spears from Silver Spoons.
I'll always remember him in 1984 when he was being interviewed on the local news in New York about getting his big break on Silver Spoons. He was really excited and started singing the Billie Jean song. Haha
Yes he will always be from Silver Spoons for me too lol
Sorry for not being as old as you are ✌🏾🤷🏾♀️
@@laurenchristianna2092 I’m not old…I’m experienced.
@@laurenchristianna2092 this has nothing to do with being old, it's just being more knowledgeable on an person or topic.
We want 80s and the 90s to come back please god!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! best decade ever
The 2010s was the 50/60/90s comeback now 2020s are 80/70s/2020s era!! So yes it's coming back
Unless you lived in a poor area, and got to watch the regan depression literally destroy your town and your parents business.
Can't stand Reaganomics
You know he was the “least threatening” kid they could find on 1984 for this. Sad and yet hilarious
I mean this is the most 80's thing ever. Ain't it. They said shipping and handling omgoodness 😂.
Most people don't know that Alfonso Rivero put out several albums and was supposed to be in New Edition but for unfair reasons he wasn't put in the group then he went on to be in Silver Spoons then on to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
How he not from Boston
Alfonso is SOOOOO TALENTED...he should be in more movie roles...
He should go back to theater since that's where he started in THE TAP DANCE KID before he was cast on SILVER SPOONS.
Huh?? Lol
He killed it on the movie "Ticks" 😂

I remember watching this with my dad as a kid in Virginia, I think my dad actually wanted to order it, ha ha
Had a crush on Alfonso after seeing this commercial as a kid at 9 years old.
Wow this is so awesome I don't remember this commercial...
If anybody has this full set I will pay 500 bucks for it... seriously
Wow, I get that big piece of cardboard for only $20?
Hold on, I’ll get my moms purse.
No COD.
Lmao
Lls
🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣😅 I Hear That
He acting hard as hell in this commercial ain’t he? 😩😩😩
He looks like a mini Michael Jackson
Just ordered it..Thanks Alfonso!!!
Damn, $19.99?? That's actually a smokin' deal
If you convert that $19.99 + $3.00 shipping and handling in 1985 to 2019 dollars it is roughly $100.00.
It’ll be about $47 now
@@christansdad Where'd you get that number, bro? I'm looking up the equivalency to today's rates and I'm getting about $50
@@Mr90oo bro just round it up to 100 smh
Damn. They actually had fuckin instruction manuals for break dancing and rapping ???😂😂😂😂
Guess you missed the safety warning towards the end. You could legit get hurt trying to breakdance. I'd say rapping is more dangerous nowadays. Lmao
I totally remember this! "Can you rap?"
The number Still works !! 😳😳 2021

The Carlton Dance 👍
Great Artists 👍👍👍👍👍
Memory unlocked.
OMG I am in the Carlton rabbit-hole now. Amazing, and I actually want to buy this! LOL
He really rode the lil MJ thing til Corey Feldman stole his thunder
😅🤣 Then Wade Robson
This was the summer of 1985, Thriller was still selling like crazy and Michael was in seclusion outside the We Are The World shoot...why wouldn't he?
@Maximus Prime: Not to mention Stoney Jackson from the 80s sitcom '227'.....You could tell that Stoney was a "Super-Fan" of MJ for sure.😃
I remember seeing these commercials on TV back in '85. The Breakdancing fad had run its course and everyone had moved on to something else.
exactly 34 years ago this weekend, It's now August 2019. Yeah, Alfonso sure has come a long way, he's now hosting America's Funniest Home Videos.
Man I miss that shit.
Who's here after the Jimmy Kimmel Interview?
Best White Elephant gift ever!! I wanna buy it!
🤣
I'm so tempted to call the number.
That machine got em spinning a long time
It’s the voice for me😅😂😂😂🤣
I love that rhis is a real commercial and its still got the old school video numbers at tge bottum
OH MY GOD! HE LOOKS TOO MUCH LIKE MICHAEL JACKSON! And, he's put alot of practice into his speaking abilities, very well versed. Taught pretty well by whoever taught him to speak about his (this?) product.
His parents are West Indian. They teach British English typically so kids of these families speak and pronunciate very well
Wait till you see this: czcams.com/video/po0jY4WvCIc/video.html (he‘s the kid in the red jacket)
Rap sheet is included...?
I want this!😁
Whoever got this for their birthday became legends

nothing beats the carlton...he could have made millions to teach just that move alone
Now That’s One To GrowOn😂
His voice is so different now compared to this.I guess Hollywood told him to lose the NYC accent.
Well wtf. What a GOAT!
A great deal 👌
