- The Yamamoto double tail hula grub is a great fish producer 12 months of the year. In this video, I not only go over my favorite way to rig it and fish it, but many others as well.
Love his last name!!✊🏾😂
Fantastic bait out west as you pointed out. I fished it on the football head even 40' dragging it
👍 yah after that video I think the hula grub needs more play time my boat.
Thanks for the follow up video. I hadn’t thought about using it on the Tokyo or swing head. Great ideas. Definitely will be trying some of these techniques
Glad you liked it - thanks for watching and the comment!
We've fished it for years on a light weight Texas rig up shallow in VA. Around rocks, brush and vegetation.
I believe super versatile
Great show. That bait is really good. Absolutely awesome flipping bait. Thanks
Thank you! Appreciate you watching and commenting.
great reminder James. I have not pulled out the hula in couple yrs, but need to. 👍
Yessir it’s something I should implement more myself
Nice info, new sub here. I recently ordered a pack of Chompers Hula Grubs.
Thank you for the Subscription- thanks!
Great information Jimmy 👍👍
Thanks 👍
One of my favorite baits on the upper Potomac River for the smallmouth. 😊
Ok yah it’s a great crawfish imitation
I fell in love with these when I first saw them in like ‘01! But we didn’t have the luxury of the actual Hula Grub back then. You had to buy, what we had available locally, the twin tail grub and a pack of the skirts! When we had the ability to purchase the Hula Grub is was way more convenient!
Ohhh yah that’s right I remember that! Wonder if I have a bag of skirts some where?
Damn the Hula Grub is my all time favorite!!
Nice! How do you like to rig them?
Just on a simple eagle claw ball jig from walmart. 1/8oz when im fishing the bottom slowly. 1/4oz when im swimming it or tryna fish the bottom quicker. Also as a chatter bait trailer, ive been really successful fishing it like that I hadnt bothered many other rigs. Ill put it on a football jig this spring.
I have caught more fish on a Yamamoto hula grub than any other single bait, fished on a ball head jig.
Wow, that inspires me to throw it more
If you wan't to keep your bait from sliding down your hook try this. After threading the bait on a hook, just turn it over and put a drop of UV resin where the hook comes out of the bait. Then hit it with a black light. It only takes seconds and can be easily removed when you change baits.
Great tip, thanks for sharing. I’ve done that with super glue but haven’t tried the UV resin.
Bladed jig tipped with a Dt hula grub is fire for smallmouth bass in the PNW
The first football jig. You showed with the weedgard. which one is that please can't seem to find it. The brown colored one.
Hey James how u doing man this Ron your first day co -angler at harris chain
Hey Ron doing well thanks! Hope to see you on the Opens next year
I just used a hulla grub to catch a couple of good ones this week end. Can you do a show on explaining rod powers.
That is a great topic, I will try and do that soon.
I started fishing these lures a few years back and I discovered that by cutting the baits in half, then heating the tail section with a candle, you can mix the skirts and make different color combo's to suit the water color or lake conditions in your area, the black tail /blue skirt mix is a killer everywhere !!!!
I’ve heard of people doing that, but haven’t tried that myself. Appreciate you sharing
Yes sir, again love your vids , I watch you on WFN and StrikeKing Pro Team Journal all the time, Have a Merry X-Mas !!!
Archie came out with the first and then chompers and then Gary
👍 Thanks for sharing!
I use them all the time and catch many fish on them.
👍 yah buddy
Is the twin tail grub
Yessir without the hula portion
Definitely a forgotten bait.
With so many baits today some of the time tested proven producers have taken the backseat.
Sorry to say I am not a fan. I have tried numerous bags of these over the years and have never gotten a bag without half being useless because of the packaging. The tails are to thin to try and dip in boiling water so I just quit buying. I would love them if they were packaged straight.
Some times when have bent plastics I will lay them flat in the sun and that will straighten them out.
