More than just about any other car, the Chrysler Cordoba personified the Personal Luxury Coupe Market - while there were countless cars that lified for he class, and many of them better than the Cordoba, none incorporated all of the good and all of the bad the way this Chrysler did - yes, it was roomy, luxurious, fairly well made, mostly V8 powered, and nice to look at - but it was also kind of cheesy and decadent at the same time. Yes, a banker might have driven one to work, but hanging a playboy air freshener inside wouldn't have seemed too out of place. This is one of the reasons I love the Cordoba - it's intensely pretentious yet also unpretentious at the same time - something that isn't easy to pull off.
This review covers the first and second generation Cordobas, and the featured vehicle is a 1981 model, powered by a 225 Slant Six. It has 42K miles, is very well preserved, and is for sale at Autohaus of Naples, on the web at www.AutohausNaples.com, or by phone at (239) 263-8500. The review and test drive are from Bill of Curious Cars.

Damn, the mythical Cordoba! You can't say that Bill doesn't deliver on his promises...well except for the short videos promise, but nobody is perfect.
🤣
Bill's full of shit when it comes to the length of his videos....
Well...most of the time.
Wondering if 360 or 400 V8... then he opens the hood...
"30 minutes MAX." Then, at the end of it all, it's the same length as the one he said it wouldn't be the same length as.
Bill: I'm going to keep this video short and not fifty minutes like the last one.
This video: 49:55
Thank God I'm not a gambler.
LOL!
16:19 it's ok Bill lol
It gets me every time. I think it’s the very fact that he says the video will be short causes it to be longer.
haha
He was true to his word it wasn't 50 minutes it was only 49:55
You're hilarious! I am a high school teacher in the City of Detroit who presents to the classes like you present these cars to your viewers: Random segues, keen observations, facts buttressed by opinions, and all wrapped up at the end with a neat bow!
One of the best car channels - thanks for the chuckle-fests!
I'm 24 and I had a great aunt Ida who had a 1977 chrysler Cordoba. White with blue interior garage kept its whole life & she bought it brand new in 1977 and had it delivered to her house. All time favorite car that's been in our family.
I had an 82 Doba that looked very similar to this one, though mine was loaded, and of course had the "rich Corinthian" leather! I loved that car! I drove it to 195K miles. The 318 was still running strong when I parted it out! I still have one of the seats, which I converted into a desk chair! Fond memories!
Turning your car's seat into a desk chair is cool: like automotive taxidermy.
@@markallen2984 Ha! Thanks! Never thought of it that way, but I enjoy sitting on it everyday. It's very comfortable and still holding up well after 39 years from new!
@@allenwayne2033 what happened to your cordoba?
@@andywest6751 It was still running well, but was getting quirky to drive, and I figured I should replace it since I had a new wife that might end up having to drive it. I replaced it with an 88 Cougar which I hated. It was not as solid or refined as my old beloved Cordoba.
@@allenwayne2033 maybe one day you will find the cordoba again :)!
We had two '77 1st gen Cordobas in the family. Beautiful cars that were great highway cruisers. They were quick for their time as well with the 400 4 barrel
engine. Underrated cars in my opinion.
Bill always puts me in a better mood than when I started watching the video!
I prefer the longer videos! Bill is one of the few that makes it fun to learn old car history. Thanks a bunch Bill!
Can't believe I am spending 50 minutes on a beautiful SoCal Saturday afternoon watching a car review on a 1981 Chrysler Cordoba. Not sure if that says more about Bill's excellent comedic talents or where my life is at during this pandemic. Let's go with Bill is a car review comedic legend! I was actually excited he was finally doing the Cordoba. Wow. Great job Bill! #slantsix
I resemble that remark! Ha!
The OJ reference was AWESOME. " On the way to the knife store"
Bruh! 🤣🤣😂😂

Ross Cutlery. Still in downtown LA but moved a bit down the street.
Perfect!
I freakin' love this car. I've always had a soft spot for 80's Chryslers.
So much content lately. Thanks!
I'm on it. Jamming.
Covid is really yielding a bumper crop of these old cars for Bill!
I'm really enjoying these long-form videos, ramble on as much as you desire.
Ah good ol' Bill, the greatest showman and entertainer in all of CZcams! He was secretly holding back the Cordoba for his 100k subs celebration. Cheers! 🍾🥂🥃
Gonna hop on this comment early 🍺🍺 see ya at 200k
@Just Mingled Just a hunch. He hit 100k with that big Elantra video... next thing you know, we FINALLY see the Cordoba. Heck, he was talking up the Cordoba before Corona hit!
Bill should be host of the american top gear, he'd lift it from the oblivion.
🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍹 🍹 🍹 🍹
@@MisterMikeTexas Hey! Is that the Corona virus whiskey?
What a boss of a car, 40'years old and doing 85 down the highway! Great video Bill, love the humor and commentary.
Good work Bill! These old survivors need to have their stories told. You do an engaging, off script version of telling the history of these forgotten vehicled. Thank you for that! 👏👏 keep them coming! 💪
...and like he said 46:51 lol
"30 minutes tops, tops" Bill you are a legend, best wishes from Sheffield, England .
Keep em coming the longer the better .
2023 comment: I remember when Bill's videos used to be only 50 minutes long.
Love the Cordoba!
"Ricardo Montalban pitched the Corinthian leather"
Shows a photo of Ricardo sitting in a Cordoba with grey velour interior
"Luuke what they've done to my carrrrrr"
Love the "so-called" long video's. Don't change a thing. I look forward to the weather and animal reports.
Yes the Cordoba, at last! As always I hung on to every word and watched till the last minute. Eating comfort food, drinking beer, watching Bill talk about the Cordoba, Mark V, birds, goats, bbqs, and more. Life doesn’t get any better than this. Brilliant!
Now just waiting for a review on an M body Fifth Avenue with that 5.2. Lol 😂
Oh hell yes!!!! Bill we want a mid eighties rear wheel Fifth Ave. I had a '84 with a bazillion miles on it and I LOVED that car.
My grandmother had one of these back in the early 90's. I remember it being a boat - I hated it! I was embarrassed to be seen in or around that car. I'd LOVE to have that same car today :)
You know thats true for myself included! The only car I still would never want again ,and , I swear I would roll it right off a cliff,is my corvair! I hated that damned thing then and i hate it now lol!
Ironically a friend's dad in high school had one of these with the slant 6 and it actually was peppier than I expected. Had an 8 track tape player complete with a Barry Manilow tape. Also here in Canada we got the super 6 as standard which had a 2bl and a mighty 110Hp.
Slant six engines are amazing and tough. I would love to have that car today.
Sadly they are mostly rusted and gone here in Canada. Not chipper about that.
Barry Manilow …oh Mandy ! LOL
Super slant six is way to go
Thats great but i would chuck the barry manilow 8 track out the window !
a Cordoba slant6 - cloth interior - wind up windows ... was this a prize on "The Price Is Right" ?
😂
Yeah, where their prices were escalated 40% above market value. My aunt was on the Wheel of Fortune, back when it was a daytime filler show, before the soaps began in the late morning. All the stuff she won was found at Macy's or JC Penney for 50% less!!! And she had to pay income tax on the value the game show placed on the item!!! LOL!! She use to joke it was the most expensive free stuff on the planet.
It was the gag gift behind curtain no. 3 on Lets Make a Deal.
Good one!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@chuckhaugan4970 How much stuff did she actually win??
I am addicted to your videos! I am amazed at your ability to make even mundane items seem interesting by relating their history. I was, like you, just a kid when a lot of these cars came out and never looked twice at them at the time, but your description and presentation of them make them seem appealing to me. Thanks to you, I now understand why they were built and why people bought them. When you are young you want fast and sexy looking cars to pick up fast and sexy girls, later you want sensible and reliable sedans to commute back and forth to work and move the family around, but at a certain point in life you want soft comfortable luxury two door coupes to take you to the country club or cigar store. P.S. Whatever your are paid to make theses videos is not enough. I cannot imagine most of these cars could be sold at a decent price without your salesmanship. Keep up the good work!
THE CORDOBA IS HERE I'M LITERALLY IN SHOCK
It was only a matter of time.
Congratulations on 100k subs, Bill.
Thanks!
Very interesting, and admitatly not what I expected as I was thinking it would be the 1st gen, as I had no clue there was even a 2nd gen! I was also excited to see the slant 6 in there. Never knew these survived to the 80s. The last of the RWD Chryslers really did hang on to the far reaches of the past as long as they could and then WHAM Front wheel drive Mitsubishi motors for everyone! Thanks Bill!
I think the Laser was a Mitsubishi
@@neilgibbons2532 The later ones were. The first ones were K cars.
The legendary (for its durability) "leaning tower of power" slant six continued in Chrysler cars like the Dodge Diplomat until 1984 and light trucks until at least 1987. Production continued until 1991 for marine and industrial applications.
I love this car, my dad had one for a time during my childhood and I'll never forget it, I can still smell the smell of the red leather seats and the smell of rubber when he would open up the 318c.i. v8 on rare occasions.
As last! The long awaited 1981 Chrysler Cordoba review!
I looked at a few comments before watching...and laughed already. If you have not watched it, Bill previously reviewed a Maserati that he was TRYING TO SELL...and just TRASHES it...his honesty is most refreshing...
No let down, Bill! You did an excellent job showcasing this amazing automobile. Definitely worth the wait! I think I may actually like this second gen Córdoba more than the original.
I think the 2nd gen is a better looking car, at least it's aged more gracefully. That said, there was a certain gaudy 70s malaise charm in the 1st gen that is lacking here.
@Just Mingled I definitely think the 1st gen had that late 70s charm... but it's a car that looks good from certain angles and awkward from other angles.. But I do agree that the original with the round headlights was much better then the 1st gen refresh
I like Bill ,he's comical & funny as he ramble on about all sorts of things 🤣. Get back to cordba I think the 1st generation was more classic to me...✌🏽
I had a 76 Charger SE Daytona (a rebadged Cordoba) and an 82 Cordoba. The 82 was much better! The 76 was junk at 73k miles, I drove the 82 Cordoba to 195k miles and the engine and tranny were still going strong but components were breaking down (turn signal stalk, ignition switch, wipers, etc), which made it a bit tedious to drive. Plus, my new wife needed a car so I parted it out and bought an 88 Cougar. Hated that Cougar, it was thin, lightweight, and nowhere nearly as solid as the 82 Cordoba!
I have to say, I owned a 1980 Cordoba and loved that car. It never broke down the whole time I had it. Mine was the metallic brown with the brown landau top with opera lights.
I had one as well
Just like the one in the video
Loved it !!
hmm, Atlanta 85 or 86
In general I despise "social media" and blame it for many of our social crises today. However, Bill and CZcams were made for each other. There is no way I would otherwise sit for an hour long lesson on the Chrysler Cordoba. I loved every minute. Thank you Bill and keep up the good work.
He promised it was going to fief and quick. LOL
@gsten2116 i agree100%! But this is what social media was made for along with the education social media provides! Its the reason Im a certified you tube mechanic!
Coming home from work and seeing Mr. Bill posted another video is the highlight of my day! Keep them coming my good man, we appreciate them!!
I remember many very long rides from the back seat of this car when I was a kid around 8 or so like going to Canada from Massachusetts. The plastic new car smell always made me want to throw up. The car was metallic brown with tan interior. It had the slant 6. My dad had this car for ten years with hundreds of miles pulling 16' boats and long trips to Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire. This car was also my first car handed down and it was a POS by that time. I Had many great times going to fun places like concerts, party's and amusement parks with friends, video camera fun on the road, and breaking down a lot. It was put though a lot of abuse like floods from hurricanes. My older brother stole it from me and forged my signature on the title. A year later I saw it in the junkyard that I went to frequently in the crushing lineup waiting to be crushed with 2 other cars on top. I could tell t was mine from the interior I actually waited around awhile to see it get crushed. I saw my childhood and teen years in that car that car disappear instantly with the last crunch. It was depressing to watch but hey. I had replaced the Cordoba with a 1968 red Pontiac Firebird. I was around 18.
Thanks for uploading the long awaited Cordoba video. Your hilarious description on the origins of the "rich Corinthian leather" prompted me to look up Ricardo Montalban, after which, my CZcams feed was inundated with retro Cordoba ads.
Fun fact, Sr Montalban got the Corboda pitchman job after doing some live theatre in the Detroit area at the time when Chrysler was getting ready to launch the car in the mid-70s. He claims that it was his iconic portrayal of the elegant Spaniard in the ads that really launched his TV and movie career into high gear.
Anyway, it is nice to remember the innocent days when marketing was limited to cars and other consumer goods, as opposed to the current age where hucksterism is used to hype climate catastrophe and mass injections.
What an absolute stunner! Would you just look at that beautiful car? Just look at it.
Bill ”The definitive encyclopedia of cars” . Thank you for another 50 minutes of pure entertainment.
Bill, I've seen every one of your videos, and I think my biggest laugh ever, was the ash tray incident with your reaction! I dont care that the car sucks, you made the video fun as usual with birds and OJ references and people with hats and all that good stuff. Thanks for the videos!
That and when the Mercedes Switch fell off !
Cordoba. This video has been teasing me longer than my highschool girlfriend.
Mopar stands for miscellaneous odd parts arranged ridiculously. Love you Bill thanks for getting the Cordova up
NIce, I'll have to remember that one. Ford stands for fucken old rebuild dodge.
Ford stands for Fookin' old recycled Dodge, and also Found on Road Dead
My Old Pig Ain`t Running
I was about to mention the acronym for Pontiac, but I don't want to start another race riot.
Poor Old Neopolitan Thinks Its A Cadillac.
As both a Canadian and an infant that rode in one almost identical to this one, I can confirm that I was quite chipper in the backseat/package tray of these cars. Although it was much more fun to sit in the middle of the bench seat and play with the radio
It does exist !!! . I just about fricken died laughing when that ashtray shot out of the dashboard like a rouge north Korean missile .
Not as bad as when the cigarette lighter popped out and burned a hole in the backseat.
I agree, it's a good looking car. I remember when the '75s came out, and thought they were nicer looking than the Monte Carlos. Great job as usual Bill!
They’re highly underrated. I’ve got an 83 in midnight blue and I love it!
The Chrysler Imperial was a favorite car rental of mine... I travelled often, most every week back then, and I always booked the Imperial or New Yorker vehicles as they were so excellent... my fav years were '89 through '93... such magnificent vehicles... it was always a good week with one, disappointing when not available for the week... This was an excellent automobile in every way...
Gaawd I’m having withdrawals without a new video from Bill!!!!!!
Another great one! Much prefer the prior generation with the round headlights, my uncle had one and it always reminded me of an American Jaguar-style coupe. But this one is cool in its own way! Thanks again Bill. Always a pleasure!
I like the first gen. I can’t wait until you find one of those that’s a 1977 like I used to have. It had a 400 and mine was Taxi Yellow.
OJ in a Hertz commercial jumping over counters to get to this car, on the way to the knife store. Bill is a seriously underrated improviser/comedy writer!
I could knock back some cold ones with this guy.
Grandfather bought a 78? Cordoba new, white/white reeeeal corrinthian leather!
Drove from the airport in Tx to his alfalfa ranch in Alamagordo NM. Car rode SO nice, ice cold R12 AC never forget it.
Back when people travelled cross country during the summer seeing the states. Miss those times.
Oh my goodness. I can't wait to hear what this man has to say about this car. FINE CORINTHIAN LEATHER
It was just good PR. Corinyjian was nothing more than a standard automotive grade leather.
This was everything we all expect. All the great characteristics of a Bill car review were fully present and accounted for. 😃😃😃
Bill sort of promises a shorter video 'than that 50 minute thing the other day' - 'Thirty minutes tops' he says.
Trolls us with a 49 minute and 55 second movie here.. . . . And we are the winner! Thanks Bill, from a Chipper Canadian.
Little tid bit, but big props for sticking with the per car Descriptions and even adding a Chapter list for the videos Bill! I love reading the descriptions, and they're very articulate in summarizing the car! Keep up the great work and congratulations on 100k!
Not expecting much from this one…but one of Bill’s best ever!
Stunning Car and as always another great review by BILL !!!!!!
Keep the videos long- we can never have enough of a good thing!
Hey bill, thanks for another awesome classic car video. Always love them!
"OJ...on the way to the knife store"
Classic!
49:44 That wheeze is everything! lolol
FINALLY!!! So glad to see this video come out! Love ya Bill!
Love all of the videos Bill. Don’t change. I have a 1980 Mirada with 11000 miles on it I got from my great grandfather in 2000 this video is really is special to me :)
All said, Chrysler did the best job with the bumpers at that time.
Such a ridiculous mandate, which ruined the styling of so many cars.
It's a Christmas miracle... Santa brought us the Cordoba!!! Bill is going to retire to Thule, Greenland. The Slant 6 Cordoba took 18.9 seconds to get to 60 but on the positive side, it got 20 MPG combined which was decent for that era.
Thule sounds nice
Love the reference to Mr. Montalban. One of the true old school gentlemen of Hollywood. KHAAAAAN!
Damn Bill that all car cruises the highway pretty good! Must make a little torque! Love it! Thanks for finally getting it to us!
49:44 . . . Bill didn't even have to say anything... that sound was enough!
I was thinking the exact thing! Perfect way to end the video!
The sound of many cigarettes passing through those lungs. Like the guy from Pawn Stars.
@@jsciarri Ah. I thought it was him breaking into laughter because the poor Slant 6 was essentially redlining to hold 82 MPH.
@@LakeNipissing I'm sure it was. But everytime I hear Bill laugh I instantly think of Rick from Pawn Stars.
Whoever purchased it probably knew about the abysmal "lean burn" ignition system on the MOPAR V8 engines at the time and opted for the slant six.

This is a great video! The commentary is always entertaining and I love this Cordoba. Part of Chrysler's sales problems at that time was their dealer network. I actually went to purchase the sister car to this (Dodge Mirada) in 1980, and the dealer wouldn't even let me test drive it. He thought I was too young and just wanted a joyride. Said I could test drive an Aspen. Well, I wasn't in the market for the Aspen, so I ended up crossing the street and buying a Silver Anniversary Thunderbird (please hold the disparaging comments) that I absolutely loved. I actually have another one now. Anyway, I also really appreciate the crank windows in the Cordoba. I've had quite a few collectible cars and the biggest issue I have had is failing power windows. For me, manual windows would be a sales feature!
Hey have been watching you since the start and I was glued aha great job keep it up!
Hey Bill, regardless of what others may say, I enjoy your ramblings, the shitty humid heat and birds. You remind me of myself with the hyperbole. Your longer videos are most enjoyable. Keep doing your thing.
Videos like this MAKE MY DAY !!
You are a legend somehow getting Bob Guicione into a Cordoba retrospective .I grew up in Windsor in the 70s and all the kids I went to school with dads worked @ Chrysler and had a Cordoba - you are right they were all variations of brown/gold
What I love about You Tube is that you are free to suck and still have your videos out there. I'm so glad that memory chips are so cheap that you could post an 8hr video of paint drying on a park bench and barring societal collapse that same video will still be there in 50 or 200 years. As far as this video goes, I clicked out well into some initial weather report.
Thanks for this one Bill. I had a '83 that I bought when it was seven years old. Nice car but I really LOVED my '84 Fifth Ave. Please do one!
Another great automobile review, myself and my neighbours do look forward to your 50 minute car review. Well gather around someone’s television with a scotch and a cigar and enjoy . We are looking forward to seeing you at a car show one day so stay healthy and happy my friend. Happy motoring
I don't love this car, but I love Bill. Hell, I'd listen to him describe the inside of a stinky barn for 50 minutes. He is a CZcams treasure!
Bill, you’re hilarious! The more you say you’re going to hold the video down to a respectable time, the longer it goes! This car with the slant 6 must have been a real dog as far as acceleration. My ‘74 Dodge Dart with same engine was slow as molasses. This is a handsome design, IMO. Sleek, beautiful tail lights, beautiful grille. Clean styling. Nice job.
Bill, you keep on giving your opinions and conversations. I learn about cars and a hell of a lot more in your vlog.

We all want the long ass videos Bill. It’s your ranting and rambling that helps us get through the day in these times of intergalactic insanity. Your one of the few voices of reason that I can listen to. It would make my day to see a 2 hour video from you. So keep rambling and ranting as much as you please. We need it.
That car is gorgeous
Congrats on 100k. Love your vids Bill.
Congrats on 100, 000! I live a mile or so from Webster PA. Can't believe rust didn't get to this old girl.
I had a 1975 Cordoba. Given to me indirectly by my grandmother, with the 400 Lean Burn set up and a smog exemption. My grandmother bought the car new and lived out in the middle nowhere Iowa where leaded gas was still the norm, so no catalytic converter was ever installed, straight from the factory. It was great. Rode like a marshmallow. She was so proud of it. She was 55-56 and it was the first brand new car she had ever bought. Great memories of her and showing up at our house with Grandpa in the passenger seat, not allowed to drive it. Suddenly, Grandma was the super cool, hip mature woman.
She passed it down when she bought a 1986 Buick Park Avenue Electra. She loved that car too, but her Cordoba was special to her and it was important to her for it to be maintained, it barely had 50,000 miles when she passed in 1993.
Lol that ashtray was like SEE YA LATER BILL
