- What is difference between CT and CBCT?
Main difference between CT and CBT is the shape of the beams.
CT scans use Fan beam shaped x-ray while CBCT uses a Cone beam shaped x-ray.
CT and CBCT have the same basic of scanning.

Hi, I had 2 CBCTs done since mid-February and now my other dentist wants a 3rd one. Is it okay to get a 3rd one in like two months?

Great question.
Some CBCT scans are with small field of view (FOV) so the radiation dose is much less.
We have FOV with only one single tooth, also FOV with the whole skull.
The same CBCT can be used if it contains the information that we need, if not another CBCT must be taken.
You can ask your dentist to check your radiography documents.

When we have CT image with soft tissue windowing the bone is superdense! and very thick and weird and the soft tissue is very clear. So no problem with that.
When we have CT image with bone windowing it is very the same with CBCT radiography ,and sometimes if I don't know where the radiograph is taken I cant tell the difference. I think this is a good thing. It shows that the technology of CBCT is growing and this technique with lower dose radiation can replace the CT image for bone detection.
By the way you can always check the report because it should always mention the technique of the image in the first sentence.

Hi there, CBCT can give a good view for bones, but if you want to see the soft tissue in details CT is a better option.
I don't see much of a difference in soft tissue imaging. For soft tissues, use MRI. CBCT is faster. Sometimes holding an animal for more than a few seconds is a very difficult task.

Sorry, I did not understand your question, but I will give a complete explanation.
Radiotherapy uses high-energy x-ray for cancer treatment to destroy cancer cells.
CBCT/CT are types of X-ray based imaging's that shows images of a structure in three dimensions, not to damage cells.
The x ray energy and amount in radiotherapy is much higher than CBCT or CT, and its not used for imaging.

In radiation therapy, CBCT are used on-set (ie when the patient is on the couch and right before being treated) for setup and accurate positioning. It is not normally used for treatment delivery (that would be the MV beam) not treatment planning (that would be the CT). CBCT can’t be used for treatment planning as it doesn’t easily provide electron density information. Some radiotherapy systems (like Varian Ethos) combine CT and CBCT into an AI-imaging construct called Synthetic CT.
