GsXtC21 Thanks man! It's a '96 ZJ with factory 5.2L engine and transmission. Transfer case is a Behemoth/STaK 300 doubler with a final low range of 7.13 to 1 ratio. Axles are locked Dana 60's with 4.56 gears. Lift is home built long arms with 6" springs and the wheelbase was stretched 6" taking the front axle forward 2" and the rear axle back 4". Tires are 37" Nitto Trail Grapplers. It's still a work in progress but has been fun to build.
did u cut the fenders or just trim i have a turbo zj with long arms but i want a 6.5 inch coil not a seven inch in cuz long arm thread depth lol could i clear 35 "MTR
Brown Brians Jeep sorry for the delay. I didn’t notice your post. I did a lot of trimming in order to clear 37’s on 6” springs. As you can hear toward the end of this video, I still have more trimming to do.
@@lifelongjeeper i have the same jeep lerado i think you do that had the 249J transfer case stock from factory and 5 speed overdrive quadra trac system with 3 transfer settings which was, 4x4 all time , neutral , or 4x4 low. with the 5.2 engine which never dies and is just as snapy as the 5.9 liter when setup right. i had my transmission rebuilt 3 weeks ago after a long 206,000 miles on its second transmission that was installed ten years ago, and used mite i add. so basiclly it is now a third transmission sence ive owned the jeep new. my engine miles are 676,890.7 as of now.
@@cliffcorbitt9494 wow. That’s a lot of miles but if it can be rebuilt, why replace it. In this Video I still have the 5.2L but it went out on me so I replaced with a 5.9 that I built up a bit. The transfer case is a doubler with a STaK 300 with twin sticks main box, and a behemoth drivetrain super shorty strong box for the doubler, so low ranges combined gives me a 7.13:1 low range gear ratio. The transmission is the only thing I haven’t rebuilt in this Jeep, but it’s time for it, hopefully this winter I get it done.
I don’t recall, but no not that many. You’ll have to research it. I loved that case for its additional strength, gearing, and the 2 Low shifter that I had in it, but that was a drawback. For crawling, it’s great. If you need a lot of wheel speed, you may want to consider something else.

I hear your concern, but it’s not quite what it seems. He had just gotten back in the Jeep after hiking alongside us for an hour or so. He wanted to ride up the obstacle but the sun was straight in his eyes so he was looking at some pictures/videos that he had been taking. He’s always been a very involved active participant.

Yes, still hope indeed. It’s all a matter of consistency and boundaries. And trying to engage him in a way that he finds interest and investment. If he loves CZcams, teach him how to record good content and ask him to capture you Jeeping so you can post it.
Yes, I really like my Jeep but only complain about its size and weight. I contemplate going to a TJ, but with the major modifications done that steered me away from that platform 12 years ago or so. If not for that though, I’d stay in a ZJ forever. Mine is lifted 6” stretched to 110” on custom long arms, doubler, locked and geared 60’s, 5.9L swap, 37’s. It’s at the point though where I need to put it in for version 3.0 with a built transmission, minor additional engine mods, enlarged wheel wells, and rollcage/bumper work…, so the decision to keep it, sell it, or swap all my engine/drivetrain into a stretched TJ is looming. To clear your 35’s, adjust your control arms to center your axles in the wheel wells, and trim the body if/where it rubs. It’s really the only way clear bigger meats and not have it jacked to the sky. I trimmed a ton out and need to do more still, especially if I step up to 40’s.
It’s approximately a 6” lift with a 6” stretch (2” forward and 4” back). All custom long arms and high steering. 37’s. 60’s with 4.56’s and Detroit lockers. Doubler transfer case with 7.13:1 double low range. Built and swapped 5.9 from a ‘98 ZJ.
Yeah, gearing makes such a huge difference. Haha I’ve wanted to put 4:1 gears in my main tcase in order to have a true 4 speed of 1:1, 2.72:1, 4:1, 10.88:1 but I can’t imagine ever needing them that low. So instead I’ve kept the factory 2.62 gears in it. Being able to split the difference between the 2.62 and 7.13 with the 4:1 would be really nice sometimes though, which is ultimately why I’d ever do it; even if I never use the combined double low.
@@lifelongjeeper Currently installed in my ZJ is np242 (2.72:1) but I have a NP231 (not installed) with teralow (4:1), do you think the doubler kit will work with this combo? I just don't know how to find a shop that install a doubler kit. Sorry, I'm relatively new to the Jeep world but I try do DIY as much as I can.
Hmm, I would use the 231 teralow as your main case but I’m not sure if the doubler kits will work for a 242 or not. I know they’ll work for a 231, but I wouldn’t cut a teralow apart. There is Caution with a teralow too. You cannot over-rev them or you’ll destroy it. They have a design flaw, in my opinion, where the planet gears have brass washers on the ends and when over-reved the oil gets slung out, the brass washers get consumed and the gears get sloppy. I’ve had it happen personally, my brother twice.

@@dylanmccallister1888 the front is out of a ‘93 F350 and the rear, I’m not positive but think it’s a late 70’s Ford. If doing it again, I’d probably go with ‘05+ super duty axles. Not that I have any complaints about mine, there was just a lot of extra work and expense to strengthen them, but those newer SD axles are pure beef to start with.
@@dylanmccallister1888 they aren’t narrowed but are rather full width with spacers even. Front WMS measures 69” but because I needed to clear my high steer steering arm, I’m running 2” spacers until I can modify the steering design/build. The rear is quite narrow at 65”, so with the 2” spacers it’s pushed out the 69” which will be perfect when I narrow the front back down. Full widths fit great under these ZJs.
There was some camera trickery going on there. Dont' get me wrong, amazing climb, but it wasn't the 80* that it looked. Watch as he crests the hill, the camera rotates 30-40 degrees.
1QKGLH it wasn’t trickery (intentional) but rather a cameraman that wasn’t watching the screen the whole time filming and he was holding it out over the edge. I have another video that was filmed from below which also shows how steep it is. If you see it, watch my lower control arm that points straight in the air.
Ok, so the 'trickery' didn't ad much to it then, it really is just an amazing climb. Looking at it from the other camera angle makes me pucker just as much. Simply amazing man!! You should splice the lower angle into this video. The two perspectives are really cool.
Sxdzy yes there was a spot where the camera man was holding his arm out over the edge and when he brought it back in he moved the camera a bit, but it really is as steep as it looks. I have another video uploaded to my channel that was filmed from below and you can see it better. A good perspective for how steep is to look at my rear lower control that is pointing nearly straight in the air.
Haha. Right? They take it all in stride when they’ve been doing it since they were infants in rear facing car seats (not that extreme, but Jeeping in general). Some of their friends get nervous if I pull up on a 1-2 foot rock in the yard. Kind of funny to see the comparison.
