      Thanks for watching! I am in Colorado and most municipalities here are now on 2018. I do believe the ICC test is now for the 2018 book, but you can call the testing centers to confirm it. ICC can also tell you. Good luck and get er done!

    Shane I really enjoyed the Video, I'm a furniture maker and wood worker. But when I get out of Navy I want to build up a fixer upper forever retirement home in Texas. What class of license might you suggest for a part time house/ construction worker who wants to flip a house?

    • @BuiltByBaileys
      @BuiltByBaileys  Před 3 lety +1

      William that is very cool! I am also a licensed Realtor and have flipped many homes. I am getting back into that market this year. Class C license is for residential construction so that is the best one for your future ventures. I would also suggest that you work at least part time for a GC so gain experience. Check with your state to see what additional experience requirements they will need outside of the ICC certification

    Hey Shane, I was just blessed with an opportunity to step into a GC position but i have no experience. My employer knows I have no experience and is willing to teach me but I was wondering if you had any advice as to ways I could start to quickly develop some necessary knowledge or any tips you may have. Thank you and great video!

    • @BuiltByBaileys
      @BuiltByBaileys  Před 3 lety +5

      Matt Campbell that is a tough one. Having no experience but being put in that role tells me who have other great assets to bring to the table that fit the needs of being a good GC. Reading is always a good way to compliment hands on knowledge, so if your employer is willing to teach you then I would suggest reading a couple different books, one being The Complete Visual Guide To Building A House and the other being Simplified Engineering For Architect’s and Builders. That combined with some informational CZcams channels and studying the IRC Code Book should set you up pretty well. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment!

    Hey Shane, I looked at your site and see you're a agent, inspector, and gc. Do you find it useful to.do or have all 3? Im thinking of getting my gc and my agent license but can't decide. Any insight is great. Thanks!

    • @BuiltByBaileys
      @BuiltByBaileys  Před 3 lety

      I don't think it is necessary to do all three, but the combo of licensed GC and agent works well in an industry where you are flipping homes and building spec homes as well. Knowledge is power though and the more you have the better off you are, in my opinion. Keep grinding!!

    Hi Shane, great Video. Here is a question for you. I would like to explore to option of investing in the Real State business. I have some cash and this what I would like to do. Buy a piece of land, build a house (to my budget) and sell it for a profit. This means that I will have to keep expenses to the minimun, so hiring a full time builder would not be the option. My friend has been a construction superintendent (does not hold a GC license) and has all the contacts for subcontracting all labor from start to finish. What would someone like me have to do to accomplish this? I been doing some reseach on permits and seems like for a common guy like me I could only build a house every 2 years and It should not be to be sold, rent etc. Is just confusing. Any help will be highly appreciated.

      Depending on your state you can be an owner builder and sell one spec home every two years, but I believe you would max out at the two specs and would not be allowed to sell another one unless you obtained a general contractor license. Your best bet would be to partner with your friend and have him go get his license, otherwise the options are limited for an owner builder that is not licensed, unless you hire a GC. You might look at partnering with a GC and share in the profits instead of paying him or her as well.

      @@BuiltByBaileysI am in TN. Thanks you very much for your quick response. I'll look into it. I was even looking to get my own Residential Builder license. If I study hard, I feel like I could pass both the Busiiness and Law and BC-Residential. But then I will need some experience and references to get it approved by the board.
