    This video was most useful video about the subject, which I managed to find from the internet. Can't believe the device manual is so useless as it is on this matter. Drove me mad, when I didn't realize why the samples didn't stay on the device. It's stupid that you can erase even factory samples straight from the sample edit menu tab, but need to jump through the export all sample hoop to save new ones. Anyway, million thanks from the video - You made my day.

    Great video by the way, bought one cause of it. Tho I'm a bit confused as the the sample limit, you said there's a 290 second limit... is that per sample or is it a hard limit on the machine? Thanks in advance.

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 7 lety +2

      smokescrean23 the limit is for each bank of samples on the unit. you could load one sample at 290 seconds or many samples to fill that space. you can save multiple pattern sets too. so essentially you can have as many samples as your memory card can hold.

    • @vanderlinden4499
      @vanderlinden4499 Před 7 lety

      Can you explane how to make and save multiple pattern sets? I can't find it on the internet and this could be the answer to my problems with the constant warning 'memory full'.

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 7 lety +3

      When You export the pattern set you get a generic .all file. You can drop this on a computer and rename it. This allows you to have and use multiple sets. If you are getting "Memory Full" that means you have loaded the max amount of samples. Remember, the factory sounds (except the synth parts) all count towards the time available. So if you didn't clear those out you won't have as much time.
      If you delete some sounds then load some and get the message you have to select "Export All Samples" and then reset the unit. If you delete the sounds it won't register the extra space until after you reload the .all file. You might be able to also select the load sample option and load the .all file to reset the space. For some reason when you delete the sounds you have to save that as a .all and then sort of refresh it. Otherwise it will still think you have that data loaded and gives you the message.

    • @vanderlinden4499
      @vanderlinden4499 Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks for the reply. I use the e2sSample.all file to delete the factory sounds. I just cleaned up de SD card and made more folders like you did. And now the problem is solved (for now at least). I am able to import more samples. Yes!

I'm asking because I want to go to the next music store and try one out, bringing my own SD card with some samples. I'm using Linux and had connectivity issues with some audio hardware before (Yes I'm talking about you, Akai and Behringer), so before spending €€€ I need to be safe the sampler works with Linux or at least has a workaround.

  • @fraso2000
    @fraso2000 Před 7 lety

    Thank you for this good explanation! Actually it seems the Electribe has always a functional problem when you play the samples via the keyboard. I often experience it to play two notes instead of one. The first note I play is ok, but starting with the second, there are always multiple pitches triggered with one pad or midi key. You can hear this very good on long samples like string sounds. Korg changed my whole mainboard, but the problem stays. What's your experience with this?

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 7 lety

      My first guess is that the sample is being played in chord mode. I am guessing the sample in question is per part, meaning when you trigger (say) pad 1 it plays multiple notes. That would suggest you are playing in Chord mode and not Keyboard mode. That would be my guess.

    Thank you a lot for the video!! It helped me out with some issues I couldn't figure out myself, however some things are still not clear to me (forgive me, I am a hardware noob). I would appreciate it a lot if you could help me out with this! :)
    1. Whenever I start the electribe with an SD card inserted, it forgets all the factory samples, is there a way to work around this?
    2. When I import a new sample, I have to stop all of the sequencing on the elctribe, this seems to make it a lot harder to make smt with it.
    3. I can't apply IFX on my own samples when they are playing, if I press the button it lights up red for a second and then just shuts off.
    4. When I load one of my own samples, it takes 2 pads?? (2 pads light up blue)
    5. The slots for saving samples start at 501 and go to 999, what about the first 500 slots? Is this where the factory samples are at and if yes, how do I use them?
    6. I downloaded that .all file but it doesn't seem to do anything.
    A lot of questions I'm sorry :/ but I really like the machine and wanna figure out as much as possible.
    Kind regards,
    Henk

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 5 lety +2

      I'll answer in the order you asked. Hope this helps out.
      1. You have to "EXPORT ALL SAMPLES" for the samples to be stored. Once you load everything you want you go into the DATA UTILITY and scroll over to EXPORT ALL SAMPLES. This will create a .all file that will load on boot up.
      2. Sadly 2 is just how it is. You have to stop the sequencer while loading samples. Kinda sucks.
      3. It might be that there is a motion sequence assigned to the part you are using. When you are on the pad with the sample loaded hit shift and pad 14 to clear the sequence then hold shift and press pad 15 to clear motion sequence. It sounds like a motion sequence was assigned on that part and wasn't cleared. Remember to write your pattern after to save it.
      4. If it takes two pads the sample is in stereo. I use Audacity of Goldwave to make all my samples into MONO. This will take one single pad instead of two. Stereo always takes to pads.
      5. The first slots are factory samples. The user samples actually start at S01, but it looks like a 5 kind of. It's actually an S. I'm pretty sure it's an S at least.
      6. The blank .all file needs to be loaded first. You go into DATA UTILITY and load that up under LOAD ALL SAMPLES. This let's you save the sample sets and load them on the fly. Note on that too, if you do save a sample set you can rename it on your PC. Whenever you save a new set it writes over the .all file you are using. SO renaming them helps you avoid writing over another sample set.
      Hope that helps you out. Keep jammin!

      @@CygnusOrb Thanks for the reply, it did help me out a bunch! Two things ares till unclear tho, number 5 and 6.
      5. I'm pretty sure it's a 5 and not an S, because after 'S99' it jumps to 600 :) I just dont understand why there is nothing in the first 499 slots..
      AS for 6: I am not going to load all my samples to the electribe 1 by 1, there has to be a way to load them all in once. The e2s.all file really doesn't seem to work for me, it doesn't load anything and there is no LOAD ALL SAMPLES option on my electribe :(

    • @bonzai1467
      @bonzai1467 Před 5 lety

      To put in short: all the samples have to be loaded one by one and it takes forever, especially considering that once I shut the electribe off it 'forgets' all the loaded samples.
      I did find the Sample Manager app but it doesn't seem to work out properly yet. Grrrr frustrating :P

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 5 lety +1

      @@bonzai1467 The response makes me think you might have the Electribe 2 Synth, not the sampler. In the Upper right hand corner it should say Electribe Sampler if it's the Sampler. If not it just says Electribe. Both of them say the Music Production Workstation thing under it. You might be right about it being 500 instead of S. I wasn't too sure on that. Another way to tell is the color. The Grey or Blue version is a synth, the red or black versions are the samplers.
      As for the sample loading, there is a program that lets you load them all in order on a computer, then you put the .all file on your memory card along with the samples and load that via the Electribe. I used it before, but had some issues with it. I'll see if I can find the link. It's not a Korg product, it's a third party. It is free to use, no ads or anything.

      Perhaps you are loading the sample on a part (pad) that was already being used? So let's say you are wanting to import a sample to part 1. Part 1 already has a sample on there and a pattern. Maybe the volume of part on is down, or there is an FX or Filter that cancels the sound. So check and make sure the filter is off, there are no FX, or anything on that part. Try loading samples on a blank pattern. And I know this sounds like a no brainer, but check that the part you are using isn't muted or the volume is down.

I do exactly what you do in the video, but when i go to 'import sample" in data utility, none of the samples are showing up? That's odd. Did you double check the other folders on the SD card to make sure you didn't put them in the wrong folder by mistake? I have not heard of samples vanishing like that except when there might be a corrupt file, which I had before. But you would know because your unit freezes up and you have to pull the plug.
      I would double check the location you imported it into and make sure it's the right folder. If not Reformat the card from the Electribe then try loading them again. If it still does it check on the Korg forums, there might be something on there in regards to that.

I'm loading in 2x sped up long samples and they are triggering well, but they play over themselves like a delay. I'm hopping to have them be a one shot sample. Also, how do you stop them in mid play? Thanks!!! John

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 7 lety

      I think what you want to do is go into the menu and scroll to the option that lets you set the part to Mono1/Mono2/Poly1/Poly2 and select Mono1 or Mono2. That way the sound will stop playig when you hit another note. I'm not sure how to get them to stop playing mid play other than using the decay knob. When a long sample is playing and I want it to stop I quickly drop the decay and that stops it from continuing to play.
      If you want it to stop at a certain point you can alter that in the Sample Edit option by setting the start and end times.

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 7 lety

      This video might also help you out a bit. Not mine, but a great resource. He does a trick in there where the sound only plays as long as you hold the part button down and stops when you release it. It might be what you are looking for, might not. But I think it can get you started in the right direction. Outside of using the decay knob or the start end point I never really tried playing long samples as one shots that only play while the part button is held down. Hope that helps out a bit.

    Is there a way i can export the factory samples into the folders on the sd card? I hit export all samples for backup on my sd, however it saves as an .all file and no audio samples. Do you load your own custom samples into your folders? I had to create the folders since they dont show up after first formatting the card

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 6 lety +2

      When you "EXPORT ALL SAMPLES" it only exports a file for the Electribe to read. That file loads your sample set to flash memory on loadup.
      Basically it tells the Electribe what samples to load.
      If you wanted the samples themselves you could do it, but it would take some work. Either you would go through and manually record each sample or you could assign a sample to a pad. Have only that pad/part unmuted and keep it at 1 bar. There is an option to "EXPORT AUDIO" that exports that pattern as an WAV file. You would have to go in and manually trim all the samples after.
      When you format the memory card it must be done on the Electribe. It will create a folder called "SAMPLES" where you put your own sounds in. In the SAMPLES folder you will want to create sub folders. For example, I have a folder for loops, hits, bass, voice, etc.
      The Electribe can only see 100 files in each folder. So if you simply put 200 samples in the SAMPLE folder you would only be able to see and load half of them.

      I would try to clear it on the computer first. Format it from there then take it to the Electribe. I'm not sure if an adapter card works, haven't tried myself. Any time I used a micro SD with an adapter in other devices it worked fine, so I imagine it should work on the Electribe too.
      Give it a format on your computer in the FAT32 format and see if that helps.

      If I remember correctly when you export patterns in WAV it exports each part individually with no MFX on them. If you are trying to export a full pattern it might be best to just record that pattern to your computer and edit from there. It should export everything that is not muted (I think). I believe, could be wrong here, that it won't export the muted parts.

    Hey, good video, thanks. Could you explain the 270 sec limit a little more? Does that mean that each sample can be no longer than 270 seconds or does it mean that all samples across the 16 pads can't exceed 270 seconds when added together? Thanks

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks. Yeah, the time limit is the maximum amount of time you can load for all samples combined. So one sample at 270s or multiple samples at that same time limit.
      It's been a few years, I moved up to the MPC family, so I'm trying to remember correctly. When you power on your Electribe it loads into RAM all the sounds and MIDI files you have saved/loaded for your tracks. On the Electribe you could have a dozen songs over all 400 or so available patterns. Obviously one song won't be all 400 patterns. So you may have 5 patterns that make up one song. And that song has 7 samples totalling 10 seconds. Another song may have 10 patterns and 10 samples totalling 30 seconds. So now between those two songs you have used 15 patterns and 40 seconds of sample time. Depending on the length of the samples you could have one project file with a ton of samples or a few if they're longer.
      I forgot what the project file was called, but you can save multiple project files and rename them on a computer. This allows you to work around the sample time limitation to a degree.
      Essentially I treated it like this: I'd make an album per project file. All the samples used for all the tracks would be loaded when I loaded the project file. I'd have from 5-8 tracks per album. So I got into the mindset of having multiple project files in order to quickly load sample sets for different albums.

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 2 lety +1

      One of the reasons I moved to the MPC was the sample time. On my MPC Live I can load 8 tracks at 5 minutes each before I hit the time limitation. I could have hundreds of samples loaded at any given time.
      That is really useful for the Keygroup feature of the MPC.
      On the Electribe to play a piano you'll load one single sample of a piano note. That single sample is sped up or slowed down to give you all the octaves to play a full keyboard. Can actually be real interesting sound super slow too. 😉
      On the MPC a keygroup allows you to sample as many or as little notes as possible to get the full octave range. So I could create a piano and each note is a sample for that note. Not being sped up or slowed down. One note=one sample. I can also make a keygroup where it uses a sample every other note, every third, every other octave, etc. So the MPC has much more flexibility in that regard.
      Having such a massive time allotment to use means I can have a whole piano loaded where every key is it's own sample and still have all my samples for drums, strings, etc.
      At the cost of two electribes you get 1000x the potential.

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 2 lety +1

      I should also mention that on the Electribe a stereo sample takes two pads to use and also takes twice the time. Basically one sample for each channel. One trick people use is to speed up your sample and save time that way. You then pitch it down to get it back where it was. But this does cause it to get a bit noisy if too fast. Degrades the audio. I'd suggest if you're not already on the Electribe and just doing research to check out the MPC One. Not only is your sample potential much greater but it has several synths that come with it, plus the keygroups I mentioned, comes loaded with more factory samples than 100 electribes combined, and has a butt-ton of FX to play with.

      @@CygnusOrb Understood, thanks. The mpc one is a little large for what I need. I'm after portable solutions, so I'm looking at a koala on an Ipad and then syncing with the Electribe (music production not sampler) via a midi interface. If that doesn't work then it looks like the 1010 black box is the way to go. Thanks for the insight though, the Electribe sampler definitely won't cut it for me with those restrictions.

    • @CygnusOrb
      @CygnusOrb  Před 2 lety +1

      @@leojames7331 The MPC one is Smaller than the Electribe. Don't know how it works with an iPad though. Not sure the ports on it either. I know the MPC Live is roughly the same size as the Electribe, just thicker. It has battery built in and USB ports that let you run up to 32 MIDI over USB connections. Again though, no clue how it works with an iPad. I know it's built to work easily with Ableton and it's own software counterpart.
      You can't do really anything as far as interfacing on the Electribe. You can run the MIDI out to a hub and get all 16 channels on it playing external gear. So it is a sweet sequencer in my eyes. The thing I like the most about the Electribe was that touchpad. It was fantastic playing grooves with. If they made that part into a controller it'd be sweet.
