Theres always going to be an issue if you are not filtering water. Some locations, although in a residential location, pull from a pond to provide water to the hose, with HORRIBLE levels of contaminants. If you get in the habit of testing before you hook up the hose, watch how much the tds can vary even being in the same town. The other, as you mentioned, is the issue of not rising soon enough. Windows and siding that are in direct sun light and especially hot, need to be rinsed down first. The minute you spray any soap on this areas prior to cooling them, the soap will instantly cling to it. no matter how much you rinse it'll still be there and will require mechanical efforts to remove.
Thanks for that product tip. After this happened to me I was more diligent about rinsing first until glass is cool. Then I rinse 3x when done. It slows me down but I won't have to go back to fix later.
great stuff as always Mike, I love experimenting on my house also LOL. One thing I would have done is test another window that had dried sh with just water. I use eliminator and have gone back days later with just water to wash the dry sh off easy peasy every time,,, BUt it is always good to have another tool in the belt.
This is always an interesting topic. I did something similar but couldn't totally prove the problem. I downstream a bucket of water with food coloring. Then, I turned my ball valve and seen if my rinse water was colored in a clean bucket. I couldn't see any coloring. Spots on windows occur because the water you’re using is not pure you are not able to wash your car or truck in your driveway and let it air dry without spots, so why would a window? Then you add in the addition of SH and I can tell you that SH leaves a film on glass always unless it is agitated and you can feel it on the glass as a professional window cleaner. It takes a couple swipes and the window goes from a sort of sandpaper, feel to completely smooth, and most people, especially in our industry. Do not know this and they are not aware, but it is true.
@@johnwitt586 I meant with a WFP. When you finish a house wash and go clean the windows after its very apparent. Even if a window looks like it’s gleaming and clean. It’s only because it’s uniformly covered in a film. You know when you buy like a new microwave and they put that really thin clear film over the window and or the keypad it’s almost difficult to pick it out and then one day you notice the little tiny bubble and you end up peeling up a corner and taking it all off and then I it has a gloss and gleam like never before. It’s kind of like that and it’s hard to pick out with the untrained eye but when the sun hits it just right and you’re looking from the inside out, it stands out like a sore thumb.
Mike, I've noticed that if I soap too many sides at once the soap is partially dried on the siding and windows when rinsing. Then the windows don't rinse worth a crap. I use Snotmenade from Russ Johnson. Here is what I've learned...... Don't soap more than 2 sides depending on the house of course... Plus, I've reduced my soap to a tiny amount through my 1/4 inch needle valve. Results have been great. When I run out of Snotmenade I'm going to try EBC Glide like some have mentioned.
I have been having trouble with Snot leaving glass hazy even when rinsing almost immediately. I just ordered some surfactant from South East and I'm going to give it a try. And maybe I'll stick a bottle of Jetdry on the trailer for those pesky skylights. 💪
Mike - Not sure what surfactant you using, but I know for a fact that Southeast Softwash's line of surfactants will leave windows free of SH spotting. But yeh... great idea. Toilet bowl cleaner also works great for pre-clean on windows with that heavy mineral buildup as well. Great video!
Cotys surfactant from southeast is no different than many of the others out there and I can tell you they all will leave SH on glass. I wouldn’t fall for those tricks and I hope he isn’t saying that to customers because it’s not true.
I don't use a surfactant in my house wash mix anymore now no more spots or soapy film. Windows rinse clean! Also siding rinses easier too. You only need a surfactant for roof washing.

Use a water fed pole with pure water on the windows after which is how I do it in the uk As the windows have already been cleaned with the chems it is a case of a quick scrub once up and down the width of the glass and rinse Hardly any water used and perfect results A house that size maybe 25-35 litres of water used 5-7 gallons
Yeah pre wetting is a part of my process as well, which really doesn't take anymore time. I think it does two things , cools the windows and dilutes the sh to come in chem application. i still have issues and ordered EBC glide for testing soon.
I just started using south east soft wash plant protect which is basically a bleach neutralizer and it makes the windows sparkling clean. I basically started using it bc I had a customer that was super worried about using SH around her plants so I bought it just to put her at ease even though I knew it would be fine. I’ll probably continue to use it on every house wash though bc it works awesome for water spots. I downstream it and spray it on vegetation and windows and doors. Let it sit for 5 or so minutes then rinse off and everytime I’ve used it the windows come out great.

So Van you just put the spray wax from Russ in you SH tank and this is your normal process? How much wax per gallon of SH do you add of the Spray wax. I already have it but have never used it. LOL
Question Yes I knew that worked but you have to rinse separate from the buffer tank otherwise it gets put on with sh while washing and once it unfortunately dries its just still a mess. Anyway besides a another tank for rinsing is there a way to do that. Hope that made some sort of fresh rinse sense.
@The Fresh Rinse ive had sh, little surfactant and rinse aid and if not careful and it dried your starting all over again so my question was how can I rinse with rinse aid short of using my buffer tank that mixes with sh? Dumb question but had to ask.

Has anybody tried using windshield washer fluid? Currently using EBC Glide put directly in the SH (around 1 oz per gallon of SH and a bit more) with extra rinsing. Works pretty good. But kind of expensive w/shipping. Bought some windshield washer fluid for the truck the other day and thought well this cleans windows maybe that'll work. Haven't got around to trying it, still going through the EBC Glide. Wonder if it would have any effect on the SH as well. Maybe someone will elect themselves be the guinea pig and let us know. Mike?
To be honest to make the time on the jobs that you say you do and watching your videos I can say your not rinsing enough and also treating to large or areas and not rinsing quick enough. A heavy foam from a foam cannon on a car roof in the shade will only stay wet for like 8 minutes. So if you’re spraying SH on a vertical surface especially if it’s in the sun it’s not really going to stay wet for more than a minute and a half so if you apply that to your process and frankly to the process that you see it all over in our industry, you can draw the conclusion that most people are allowing surfaces to dry with SH on them and thus causing oxidation and I would say 95% of our industry under rinses the surfaces they clean. To wash most any house properly in under 45 minutes is almost impossible and your medium size home and under an hour from pull up to leaving is very very difficult no matter what set up you have and I understand that’s not the news people want to hear. As far as the windows are concerned, any type of rinse aid may help slightly and the windows could appear to be spot free, and they may even look clean. The issue is when the sun hits them you will notice they have a complete Haze/film/glaze of grayish white on them so the rinse aid may have made you feel better in May make the windows appear to look good but if you use SH unless you babysit every window and rent it beyond the point you think necessary and then allow it to drip and then rinse it some more you are not going to make windows look good. Put a little bit of SH on your hand and then rinse your hand underwater you will instantly understand how hard it is to get it off. If customers complain about windows you should recommend that they get their windows cleaned professionally as there is no substitution for agitation to glass and a pure water rinse or squeegee. Also, I will know that the trend of people in the industry selling window cleaning, but just adding some sort of rinsing aid is basically snake oil, and it devalues the different services within our industry. If you quote a customer to wash their house, then wash their house and if you want to offer window cleaning, then get set up to professionally clean windows and offer that as a service.

Been using snotmenade and windows are the first thing you notice when you go back, they're that glossy. Love it. Go-to for sure.

Get the spray wax from Russ and put a little in the sh. I do that and it helps the water sheet off the glass just like the rinse aid.

Just get a 3-stage water fed pole, and there's your 0 ppm water to hit the windows with and increase your ticket price at the same time.
