Issue resolved. I was getting persistent drifting on the roll axis. I couldn't figure out the pictures on my own... This tutorial solved my problem immensely. Thanks for the help!
A very helpful video. Thank you. I realised a calibration was necessary after filming a seascape and it was very easy to see that the horizon was not level. However, I could not have completed the calibration without this video as the information provided in the manual was very inadequate. It was very useful to have explained how to support the device in the different positions required to complete the calibration.

Hello from Melbourne Australia and I would like to thank you for the very clear and informative calibration video. My camera Panasonic gx85 kept on fallindg 2 deg. to the left and while panning dropping level on both axis. I could not make any sense from looking at the Zhyiun manual. you have saved my nerves and got me out of deep Panic. Thankyou so much Josh and you have gained another loyal subscriber..Sbsb 2 mine ..next weeks video from the beach will show slight angle offset I couldnt fix , but now Im back on the Road ! Cheers...

1. When we calibrate do we just start putting it in these position back to back or do we press stop after each position then recalibrate ?
2. How long do we hold the gimbal in each position.

Gimbal has 2 variants of Crane calibration Six-side and Motor Calibration. Can you please explain the Motor Calibration.

Hi Josh, when pushing/ activating 'calibrat' in the OLED menu on crane 2 (just after 'joystick'), it starts on STEP1 - stays for a while, changes to STEP2 - and kind of just stops there? Not sure I do/ use this correct, and can't really find any good explanation anywhere? Can you help me understand when and how to use 'calibrat' in the OLED menu on Crane 2? Cheers Stopher

Can’t seem to calibrate my crane v1. If switch on to connect via the app it spins uncontrollably with no camera on it. There seems to be no way to keep it turned on in order to continue with the step by step instructions. Am I missing something simple?

I NEED YOUR HELP! I JUST BOUGHT A ZHIYUN CRANE 1 like this and it was working and then the motor started to make noises. I assumed it was just dead or something… I even took apart the top part that holds the camera bc it was making noise but the motor and connections look normal! I dont understand bc it was working for the first 2 hours I had it.

Been trying to Calibrate, followed your instructions , turn On the Gimbal, did the App connection, then the Gimbal turns off and loses the connection. What am I doing wrong?

I know this video is old but I have downloaded all of the upgrade software Zhiyun has provided will not upgrade. What can I do or what am I doing wrong. I'm using a PC. I've been working on this for many hours trying to calibrate my Crane Plus and install the firmware. I cannot get the calibration tool to recognize my device and the firmware will not load. What can I do or where am I going wrong? I'm on a PC.

I only have 1 issue with my v2 I did not have with the v1. My Crane doesn't point straight forward (Pan Axis) when in the locked mode. It's off by like 5 degrees vs. the controls, not good when you have a grip mounted. Does calibration fix this?
I answered my own question, YES, calibration seemed to fix the problem of the gimbal being crooked in the pan axis.
FYI, I used the Zhyiun Gimbal Tools App on my Mac, USB hardwired. The App shows you the pictures! Which is great, in combination with your video. You simply follow each picture until it passes and shows you a new picture. The phone app needs major work.

Ugh, very unhappy with the plus. Been sitting for hours trying to calibrate. Sometimes I get past the first of six positions, but never get past step two. It's like the gimbal decides to not try at that point. Anyone know what the heck to do, or do I need to send this back? I wish the tutorial was realtime to see in more detail how it's done and what is a reasonable wait time..
EDIT: got around it by using Windows and having gimbal hardwired to pc with USB. Then the windows-app calibration took less than 5 minutes. Android app sucks "you know what.."
The Motors are not shutting down on their own. At least my crane didnt (Version 1). I had to put it in stand by mode by pressing the joystick for 3 seconds !!!!!!!!
Do I need to uni-install the quick release plate and the mini-tripod to do the calibration ?
Best to calibrate it as you bought it out of the box (no third party release plate) , you can leave the legs on and batteries in.

WTF? its been awhile since ive fired up my ipad or iphone to calibrate my crane 2. what am i missing. i have Zhiyun Play app and i dont see any calibration buttons. it seems they just want to my pictures. almost seems like this is a consumer phtot app and not the calibrations software i know i used way back at some point. im on IOS. anyone shed some light on what the hell im missing?

Great Info, one thing that's really messing me up is just how to update the firmware on the crane itself. There is very little info about it on the site, and it's quite unclear. Any tips?

I can balance (Sony A6500) so that it stays perfectly straight, but when I move the camera to point up or down or to any other position, it just flops right back to the straight flat position. Do you think I've bought a faulty gimbal? I've re-calibrated using the app but still it won't stay in any other position than totally level.
I have the exact same issue and don't know what I am supposed to do now...
What I ended up doing was to adjust the arm that holds the camera plate up and down - I had to make ridiculously subtle changes. I wouldn't even call it adjusting, really it was more like just gently pushing it up/down without it even moving! Here's a video that shows the problem I was having and the correct up/down arm adjustments (although he actually moves his up and down, really I was just making incredibly small adjustments) - I can now put my camera pointing up or down and it'll stay there - sometimes it'll stay where I put it on the horizontal axis too if I tilt it right or left, but not so much - no way does it stay wherever I put it though (only on the vertical up and down position) however, the gimbal works fine. I thinks it's cos' my a6500 is very light.

So to calibrate the crane you wont even need your camera? After calibrating camera you can just put your camera on there and it will work??

Thanks for this, really appreciate someone stepping in and going through this. I've just spent over two hours trying to get this to work and it just won't complete the second step. I've tried every position possible, the app just seems to get stuck and won't move to step three. Any ideas?
I had the same problem - turned off/on gimbal and app a few times. Then just held it REALLY steady, some of the positions took a couple of minutes others worked almost instantly - no rhyme or reason... but got through to the end eventually.
Ed Roberts I tried everything over and over, even left it propped up I the same position for 15mins! I've sent it back for a replacement.
Wow - very frustrating! I'm experiencing my own problems - the camera won't stay in position if I move it once it's balanced horizontally. I think I may have to send mine back too! ugh!!
Well, I ended up getting around it by skipping the mobile app all together. Instead, I plugged it into my pc with USB, downloaded a windows application for calibration from the website, and with that program, I went through all the steps in less than 5 minutes. Android and the plus stabilizer did not play well together for me..
I bought it new and just unboxed and balanced it. How will I know when it needs calibrating?
It all depends on how well it performs. If the horizon stays level and it doesn't drift, then calibration is not necessary :)
TIP: If you have Android don't even bother doing this on the app, plug the gimbal into a computer. It WILL save you time and prevent rage 👍

If your crane handle spins out of control when you turn it on, the fix is to push the "Mode" button for a second or two.

do you need to calibrate it in the app before you balance the crane? I balanced mine first and it balanced fine. Then I calibrated it in the app and once it turns on it loses balance now and joy stick keeps spinning? Is the app calibration even necessary?
I think you should calibrate it before you start using it for the first time. That's what I did and it works amazingly! :)

Yes... mine had a terrible vibration because mine was set to HEAVY when I only had a Canon S90. I set it to medium and it is pefect.

Tried this with my Crane 2. Soon as I turned it on. Motors freaked out with no camera on gimbal. Anyone know where to learn this on the Crane 2?

This happened to me also. What you need to do is first put your camera on the gimbal, balance it, then turn it on. After it is turned on put the gimbal into standby mode, this will shut the motors off but leave the gimbal on. Now you can remove your camera and calibrate your gimbal without worrying about motors freaking out. Have a good one!
The gimbal will stop and shut down the motors a second or two after you turn it on. Just have to wrestle it for a couple of seconds.
From the manual: 'Hold the camera mounting plate and long press the power button to turn on the stabilizer. The motor will generate acting force upon activation, hold the camera mounting plate still and long press the Mode Button to enter standby mode. '

See some other responses I posted above, but practically speaking, I ended up calibrating when connected to pc (windows) and it worked great.
Don't works on my Zhiyun Crane Plus. I can't turn it on without the gimbal freeking out. I'm total depressed because my right motor vibrates constantly and I can't fix it
Just did it with my plus and it works. Make sure the app is ready and connect, once in calibration mode, motors will shut off.
I just cannot get past the first step on the app with the crane 2- bulb does not turn green to progress. It's been propped completely still for around 10 mins now. I've tried turning off, reconnecting and it's driving me crazy. Anyone else managed to solve this problem? Help!
Use the windows application instead of mobile app. That did the trick for me.
