That was an epic coverage of the arrivals of both Marine One and Air Force One. Those five helicopters getting ready to land was something else. So was the departure of those five choppers, one of which was Marine One. The arrivals and departures of the airliners at LAX happens all the time, but Air Force One happens just once in a while.

BTW, somebody asked on a super chat why the helicopters don’t just take off, and I think you misinterpreted the question. They were asking why do they bother going out on the runway to take off rather than just lifting off from where they are. Always wondered that myself, though I suppose part of it is that they’ve got a big flight to keep orderly. Cheers!

One night President Obama flew out of Fresno International Airport (FAT) on Air Force One and headed to Palm Springs, as I recall. Planes leaving FAT fly west first and then north or SE. SE in this case. Usually they turn before coming as far west as my house, but this time AF1 came clear out here and made the turn just about over my house. I'm about six miles from FAT. You can tell AF1 at night because it has two big lights shining on the tail. I have been a frequent communicator with the WH. I dropped an email to the WH and said those engines sounded like they were tuned about perfectly. Quite a sight to see when it's that low.
Very skilled pilots, makes me wonder why we don’t have better Army helicopters 🚁 or skilled military pilots. Way to many tragic accidents, it would never happen with the president helicopter pilots or Air-force One.

I got to see this beautiful plane many years ago as I flew out of Heathrow. She really is a sight to behold with such beautiful colouring.

They completely close the airspace. No other planes land or takeoff for I think 20 to 30 minutes.
