Ever heard of the AMG tuned Honda Civics?

This is the story of the AMG Honda Civics, actually, Honda Ballade AMG. It's South Africa in the 1980s, the tariffs are high and Mercedes wants a cheap car for their dealers. A car match made in heaven.

All AMG did to the Ballade is offer a sport package ( side skirts and spoiler) dropped the suspension 15”, better brakes
Leather interior with AMG moniker and AMG mats.
The last model they worked on was the Ballade 180e 5th generation ( Civic EG). A Non V tech ( b18b4)
I do not think AMG worked on the 1.6 Ballade (Civic EG) It was the 1.8 only . SA had a 180i and a 180e. Both had the same motor.
On the previous model ( Civic EK) , that would have been a 1.6.
However, I am not sure about the output figures you quote.
They would have been using the 1.6i DOHC and just tarted her up with body kits, dropping suspensions and better brakes.
I think this would have been very rare and certainly hard to find now.
We all called this model the DOHC. It was a beauty to behold and she drove really well. As Honda did back in the 80s and 90s.
These were considered “bonehead cars” by people with better taste.
My observations of living there at the time.😀
They sounded awful and once they hit the second hand market, all sorts of mods took place.
It was a great time for Honda and it certainly helped establish the brand as a premium player in the compact market.
Following the end of the tie up in 2000 , Honda in SA has never been as successful as it was under MBSA.

No these cars had the B18 engine as far as I know with sport suspension and a sport exhaust system. It had either 15'' Remotec Aluline or 16'' Remotec AMG Wheels. And AMG badging of course
