Things that happen when I speak from memory: the consumer version of the Nikon brand is not "Nippon Gokuraku", but "Nippon Kogaku". Sorry about that.
My ft2 is still banging away as good as the day it was built. Just love it.
I love your videos in any format that they are, outstanding pictures as always! Really beautiful colors came out of this cross-processing!
These pictures are wonderful Ed, especially enjoyed the fuji shots. Love this new format!
love this new format!
Discovered your channel last week and I love every one of your videos!
Loved the new format!
some feedback: I really enjoyed this video.
At first, I thought you'd tell us what you liked or disliked about the camera on the spot, so I was somewhat confused, but it soon felt like joining you, having a glance at your way of shooting and it was interesting, as always.
Your in-depth look at pros and cons of the Nikomat really gave an idea of the camera and definitely is a good place to start for people who consider buying one.
I had a Nikkormat FT back about 1975.... One of the finest film camera I ever had.
This camera appears to be very vintage Japanese, and I love it so much, it's so sleek and smooth, plus the gear sound during winding. It feels like a Nikon Spotmatic. Truly a great underrated camera
Amazing shots as always 😊
Nippon Kogaku IS Nikon. that's their official name before the mid-80s and that camera is an FTn and NOT an FT.
excellent format tweak. love an old school nikon
Muy buen video Ed. Tenia dudas de comprarme esta cámara. Gracias a tu video se despejaron mis dudas 😊
Thanks for this video. I love my Nikomats and your video has reminded me to shoot with them again. :)
Great video, great camera. Yours is an FTN actually not the earlier FT. The large N over the battery check window designates it as the N, the FT would be lacking that and has the ASA setting in a different spot.
greaaaaat pics as always !
Love the new format!
Wow this was so fun! Thanks man
Love the new way!
excelent video and camera!
Me gusto caleta el nuevo formato 👌❤️
Yes! Finally!
Saludos Eduardo!
the viewfinder of nikkormats are pretty clear.. i enjoy them a lot
keep doing ur thing ed. love.
Thx Eduardo when I see your channel I remember discussions with Latino friends in University in Paris.
Now I live in the country was made this camera and I miss this discussions
Gracias!
I love Shoot film series, but this is great too! I enjoyed this episode a lot.
I've got an FT (not FTn) I had the meter voltage adjusted to take modern batteries with the CLA a while ago! Great camera great video!
Great video as ever Ed. One thing though - you can find batteries for the light meters on these cameras. Weincell make a battery called the MRB625 that replaces the original mercury battery. Works just fine in my Nikomat FTN.
Hey man, great channel! Regardless of the format, I appreciate the quality content. My only comment would be the piano while you started talking about the camera. While lovely, I believe it was bit too relaxing. I loved the music from Rodrigo Recabarren.
Anyways, I just wanted to ask two questions. One, what light meter app do you use and how accurate do you find it (or how do you adjust say for slide film)? Two, what is your favourite non-Leica camera or interchangeable lens system?
Keep up the great work!
Really like the new style!, seems more relaxing and fun btw you should try more Nikon gear, especially their professional F line.
quedo bakan este video!
I love my nikkormat ft2. I made a wooden grip for it because of its weight. Much more comfortable to hold.
Try a video where you give the camera to strangers and take portraits of you as they want and see the results(but the settings are made by you.)
Hi, enjoyable video, as always. Minor clarification, the camera was the FTN, not the FT. The N on the top plate “above “ the light meter is the indicator. Mildly confusing, because the serial number itself is prepended only by FT. Keep up the great work.
True. This is the "New" FT. A sort of mid-production update instead of a new model. This is something Nikon did again with the FM2-n
Hey Eduardo! Que medium format cámara recomiendas, algo accesible! Gracias. Excelente vídeo!
Cool video. I have a Nikomat EL, same basic camera bur it has the shutter-speed as a dial on top… Although my TOPCON Unirex has the same layout as the FT and it is a finicky camera ;-)
Anyway I am rambling, grate video!
Wicked colours
every time a photo comes up I’m drawn to the text below !EVERY TIME! even though it’s the same text
hhaha. it changes at the end!
Since i tried the Nikon F301 i have so much fun to use a SLR, the Big and Bright Focussing Screen, perfect if you wear glasses like you an me, and a very good build Quality for a consumer camera
Hi Ed, amazing video again! I do have a question though. I noticed in this video and the recent xpan video you put your hand out on the light before you shot. What were you doing there?
This particular camera seems to produce some of the best pictures of the many that I have seen on this channel. It looks like a very good camera, and excellent lens.
It’s the lens. Film cameras are just black boxes. They don’t produce the images.
@@edpavez Correct: the lens accounts for the optical quality of the image, which is clearly excellent for the photographs in this video; however, it is also interesting to see how your interaction with the whole camera is a notably positive experience for you, including details such as the way that you hold the camera, adjust the settings, frame each picture, and so on, which seems to yield especially good results from both a technical and aesthetic viewpoint. Thus, in this sense, it could be said that the camera is more than a simple black box with lens attached. The videos on this channel are a pleasure to watch, and I particularly enjoyed this one.
@@cdl0 thank you! oh now I understand what you mean. yeah, I agree. It's a great machine. I don't like SLRs but this is one solid camera.
@@edpavez Thank you, and thank you for all the great videos!
Liked the old format better. More directly.
Loving the videos man, keep up the amazing work. Maybe you've already mentioned it, but can I ask you what place is this?
I live in Hastings, UK.
You can use 1,5V bateries with an adaptor. You can buy in eBay... Is not really cheap but works
What application do you use to metter tbe light in your phone? Im android user. Thanks for the videl.
Cross processing almost looks like regular slide film in the images. Did you do any correction at all? Or is it just the Ektachrome and how it develops? Nice work as always in any case
The Ektachrome 5071 are direct scans. The Fujichrome CDU2 has some white balance adjustment to remove the excessive yellow tint. Thanks for watching! :D
I'm really surprised the crossed photos turned out like so.. the colours aren't too crazy!
When you stick your hand out towards the light what is it exactly that you look out for? Im intrigued by this technique of yours.
Hey Eduardo, Can you pls tell me where you bought that camera strap from. looks cool. And hope you are doing fine in NY by the way,,,
Hi. When you are using your light meter app, do you select reflected or incident light? I have some cameras that do not have light meters, and normally use sunny 16, but would like to improve the exposure using a light meter app.
I think I enjoy your accent. Is spanish your primary language? Anyway I can tell that you enjoy English. I can also tell you’ve learned to be yourself. I’d like to say that I’m on the same page as you are! Buena suerte amigo!
Where is this. Beautiful
set the aperture to f5.6 not f16 to mount lens?
Nice video! Can I put any lens on the Nikkormat FT/FT2? Also one I use on my FE?
If you still use FE and you have mostly AI/AIS lens then you can look for a Nikkormat FT3. This will eliminate the need for indexing the aperture which is the case with FT/FT2.
You should give the nikon F2 a go it was the nikon pro version of your nikkormat and uses LR44 batteries so meters reliably in 2018.
Oh and you can fix the issue with the light meter by adjusting the iso setting to compensate for the voltage difference. If it's metering a stop to high etc... adjust to match a camera you trust.
The F2 and F3 are top on my list but they are too expensive, considering I buy these cameras to give them away.
EduardoPavezGoye , fair enough...and it's great you give them away. Love the channel and look forward to every video you post 👍
you should try nikon f2as best slr ever made ...
Hi Ed! Just curious, what ASA did you shoot the 5071 at? I recently acquired some and have read that it is somewhere around 8 or 16 but could not find a definitive number. Thanks!
It’s a 25, but since it’s tungsten balanced and needs a filter, I add an extra stop. So 16 filtered or 25 unfiltered.
Great, thanks!
Lovely vid as always.
Battery adapters for these old cameras are available from www.japancamerahunter.com/shop/mr-9-battery-adapter/ as well as cheap Chinese versions on ebay. They reduce the voltage of a 1.55V SR43(386) battery to the 1.35V that the toxic mercury batteries used to supply. Some camera repairers will add a resistor to the light meter circuit instead.
Hope this helps
What did iso you use? (On 5071)
Great video! The Nikkormat is Nikon's ugly duckling. It's both quirky and underappreciated but a great camera nonetheless.
Does anyone know similar film lab based in the US that has respooled film? The shipping fee is insane.
What filter do you use on your kogaku lens?
85B, because the film is tungsten based. :)
Dang! Where is this place, man!?
Looks like Hastings in Sussex (UK) or somewhere nearby, but I may be wrong.
Do you mean set the lens to f5.6 (not f16)? Nikkormats are excellent cameras.
That's what I do on my FTN and my Dad's FT2...set it to f5.6
So you don’t need need batteries for it?
the Nikkormat FS doesn´t have light meter, so there´s no problem about batteries
Is is because the software adjustment that the pic so grainy at 2:28?
these are straight scans.
Personally i feel the old format was much more engaging.
Do a Canon P episode :D
Why the cross process rather than just getting slides done?
experimenting!
what ? optical filter you use
hi.which scanner are you use?epson V 4490?
Ming Wang he has a pakon for 35 and the 4490 for medium format.
thanks I use Epson V700 for 35 and medium format
Camera is an FTN not FT. FTN uses Center Weighted Average metering. FT uses Full Field Average metering.
What battery does ft need? Can’t find info anywhere.
@@pessiharfenes9386 Google has lots of info.
F5.6 to release the lens not f16
The ft(b) lever is aggressively creamy.
*the canon
What battery does FT not FTn need?
1,35v mecury battery such as PX625, PX13 or MR9 but they have been discontinued because mecury is harmful. The only modern 1,35v replacement to my knowledge is MRB625 made by WeinCell but they are expensive. Another more economical way is to use an adapter.
try nikon f3
i want the fe2 but the price on eBay is too insane.. f3 is too big/heavy for my liking. but im sure it's shutter sound is satisfying :]
why was the film exposed after you unrolled after shooting?
I don't understand the question. :(
At the end of your shooting the film was still showing
I try not to rewind them until the film is back in the catridge. Saves me time when I have to load them in the reels for developing. When you wind it, at one moment it loses its tension. If done correctly, you can take it out like I do on this video.
That’s very cool, never seen it done, I’m new to film, and thought it was cool!
