Was looking for a build like this that can optimize thorns damage so thanks! How does thorns damage work though? Is strength better for damage than thorns number? How is all that calculated?
Tbh that chest piece offers sooooo much thorn damage that if you speck in a little thorns in the skill tree and hp it will put out so much more damage then the stats missing from it.
I've just had the same idea when I got fed up with tracking auto attack from mobs. I thought if I'm always going to get hit, why not punish it. I also switch up HotA and WW alot for variety and thought Thorns would be a complimentary stat for both. Been theorycrafting my build and it's good to have a comparison. Thanks for the guide.
@@joepark8753 Quite similar since you get hit while challenging shout or doing basic attack for full edgemaster and expectant stack. I just swap gloves and boots for a different aspect and just a few skill respec. Quite nice and cheap to swap in and out. Doing Tier 40+ at lvl 78 and that's without Temerity. Can't get it to drop.
Thanks this saved my barb. I compensated the chest piece by putting thorns damage while berserking on my 1 handed and used the berserker key passive since fury drain sucks.
So I've been trying to follow this as closely as I can with my barb, but Im confused if I should keep the auto selection for weapon on my whirlwind or have on mace, duel or sword. Followup question, do I have to have a specific weapon selected for the skills to get the expertise of lets say 10/10 bleed on twohanded sword to my whirlwind, or can I get the expertise but have a 2handed mace selected to the whirlwind? Very confused.
Does anybody have a link for this build by chance? I know he explains it very clearly but would be nice to have a sheet to tab back and forth to. Tyia.
I've only found one Razorplate and it was at level 66. I'm now at 74 and have been unlucky with unique drops. For some reason, those damn near useless weapon swapping unique boots kept dropping for me. I have 6 of them...
My biggest problem with WW was how bad it felt leveling and even until almost 70's or 80 for me. I leveled so insanely easy with Rend, but every time I tried WW I had major issues with Fury gen. It seems like so many things are mandatory for WW to feel good and not be fury starved. Do you think you could get a WW build going at 50-60 in WT3?
Nah WW sucks without optimised gear but absolutely solos the fuck outta the game with good gear haha. Hammer of the ancients build for me between 50-70 has been insanely good so far
You have to be in large group of mobs If you used the unbridled rage passive for your ult cause without fury regen, it’s useless. Got for the purple passive keystone for your ult and you should never run out of fury.
@@devonmailles2373 Ive been leveling rend which has been super good, but I will try the berserk keystone and give it a shot. Maybe switch to unbridled rage like you suggest at later level with more fury gen. Thanks
+ 10% core skill damage is still stronger (more DPS) than +str, +all stats. I have all 3 rolled on both of my offhand, and my mace. I am level 60 spinning for an avg of 18.5k per hit on whirlwind buffed up. I built my paragon around using a polearm and + %dmg to bleeding enemies. Lots of things prock off of slashing weapons and you get an extra 40% damage from the first paragon board alone using the right glyphs and legendary nodes for polearms. Also, using the golden halbard transmog is just swagger
Thorns builds were so much fun in D3. I remember my Thorns Crusader was stuuuupid. I cant remember what tier I was on but watching Malthael one shot himself by touching my Crusader was hilarious. Doing high level nephilim rifts just walking through mobs that just fell over after trying to hit me was satisfaction incarnate
Hey mate I’m confused what expertise to use? You said to use two handed mace expertise but then said use the two handed or one handed one? Should I be using one handed sword expertise for the fury. I’m using two handed swords for whirlwind and lunging strike, is that right?
How are you getting all the weapon bonuses at the same time? I thought you had to equip the Technique to get it…. Meaning you can only have one at a time?
I'm a level 66 Whirlwind Barb and just got a Razorplate drop with 11,510 thorns... With that high of a roll, should I immediately start rebuilding into thorns? I don't have Temerity pants yet.
How do you get the Razerplate? I'm lvl 50 doing nightmare tier 3 dungeons, is there something else I can do specifically to farm this? I also do helltides and the world bosses... any help would be greatly appreciated!
Pretty solid build! But why not go for the Gauntlets of Gasping Whirlwind for your gloves? Pulling in all the enemies can be super lucrative to killing huge packs.
I can't get away from my 10million crit dmg hota build lately. I rolled perfect triple dmg max fury rings crit chance crit dmg vulbersble dmg plus 18fury on each and cdr plus 27 fury on my helmet. Lvl 78 currently with 4 renowns needing to be complete. 213 max fury highest crit so far at 10mil
i just don't understand something basic, why do we have 4 weapons ? are you using the mace for lunging strike & whirlwind ? what about the other weapons are they only for stats ? please need a little bit of explanation
You can select what weapons you want to use for each skill. I use dual sword for whirlwind. So my dps for whirlwind comes from the dps stats of those weapons only. BUT you get all of the Stat increases from all 4 weapons too.
with a barb right now just alwasy use the shouts when they come up no need for a rotation per say just trying your best to generate fury to spin and win
Are you just starting the game? If so whirlwind isn't viable until about level 60. I'd recommend a bleed/rend build or hammer of the ancients build to get you there.
