Id say its one of them. If you ever check out Indigo Gaming's retrospective on CyberPunk (overarching into Sci Fi in general) a lot of these mediums were inspired by books, that were inspired by books, that were inspired by books (myths, legends, folklore as well) etc. As far as games go though, I'd say "Spacewar!"
@@Marc_Araujo Yeah i guess the term “super popular” was stretching it, but system shock 2 and Deus Ex were on all the annual lists in the PC world with HEAVY anticipation. Well it was supposed to be getting a remake (coming out 2017!), then Night Dive decided they wanted to do a reboot, and changed a ton of things, fans were NOT happy, especially the kickstarter backers that backed it expecting it to be a remake/update. Then Night Dive realized they had too much "drift" and decided to go back to doing what they were originally.

Haven't clicked on a video this fast. In a replay of System Shock with the enhanced controls and will replay System Shock 2 next. Probably my 10th of each.
Great retrospective on System Shock. I really wish the remake was mentioned BEFORE the spoilers. That would've influenced my decision to listen to that part of the vid.
@@theeidofe9716 I think it depends on the aspect that would be qualified as "too old". I'm fine if it has dated graphics. But if the controls or user interface is dated, I tend to skip it.

System Shock and SS2 were definitely two of the best games ever, as were both Ultima Underworld (not "Underground", hehe) games. Even though System Shock's spiritual successor Bioshock was a great game as well, I still thought System Shock 2 was even better.
System Shock 1 is my second favorite shooter, just behind Postal 2. I think it is even better than its sequel and definitely doesn't get enough praise for what It achieved: 3d objects, working cameras (2 years before Duke Nukem di it, the unique combination of a point and click interface with the Doom-like shooting, the unrivalled aestetic it pulled of. In a word, a Masterpiece
I would be more curious for a new sequel to the system shock series rather than remake but it could be good to produce awareness to the series if it goes well maybe a remake of 2 and later maybe a 3rd game in the series
System Shock 3 was in development up until recently. It’s current state is a bit unknown, but the expectation is that it has been quietly canceled. Either that, or stuck in its own development hell. I do hope it comes back, though. The SS games are two of my favorites of all time. I even backed the SS1 remake to the level of getting my name in there as one of the cyborgs…
I hope a revival of immersive sims is on the horizon. Prey 2017 feels closest to System Shock out of any modern game I've played so far. There's even a Looking Glass reference therein.
Putting DeadSpace in the same sentence... yikes nothing against the game; but this isn't even the same ballpark imo. Maybe on things like atmosphere and visuals; but systematically? Just no.

What do you think is the most influential video game of all time?
Half-life
Warcraft 3
Legend of Zelda
Pac-Man

I genuinely feel sorry for anyone who hasn't heard of System Shock.
Right
It's basically what started BioShock
it was also technically the first real 3d fps
This title made me feel ancient. “Everyone’s heard of system shock. It was super popular….in the 90’s….”
@Raziel Hey Raziel, when's the remake coming?
I feel like System Shock really wasn't that popular when it released but built a cult following after the first Bioshock...I was born in 86.

I didn't even know about this game. It's amazing that such an influential game could be unknown to so many people.
It's interesting seeing gameplay footage from games that came out when I was a little kid or before I started PC gaming.
a little funfact about the German version of SS1: Shodan's German voice actress in the first game is the same that later voiced GLaDOS!
Why is this channel not getting more views? I mean CHRIST!! THESE GUYS USED TO BE HUGE!!! G4!!!!
