  • @fabienb
    @fabienb Před 3 lety +7

    There's also the "shoot without lens" setting. If you want to use a 3rd party lens this needs to be enabled as well, and it's not like with the SD: I assume you'll notice if you don't have a lens attached ;)
    On the Focus/Release priority... It depends. Recently I was out to photograph wildlife with the Fuji 100-400mm and a 2x teleconverter and this combo is a bit slow to focus. If I had the camera set to Release I would have gone home with a series of blurry birds because the camera would have shot no matter what. With the Focus priority, I may have missed a couple moments but I went home with 1000 shots perfectly in focus! Which caused another problem: selection, lol. But I managed and published a few in my recent video ;)
    And why shoot without SD is set to ON by default is beyond comprehension 🤷🏻‍♂️
    Cheers.

    I used to live near USAF Bentwaters Air Base in the UK,famous for an Alien craft sighting in the 1980's.I was in the nearby forest with my camera and a strange humming sound broke the silence.The metal lid of the craft unscrewed slowly and suddenly two large eyes appeared - the size of donuts.Somehow they beckoned me into the craft and everything went dark for what seemed like an immeasurable eternity.When i awoke on the forest floor,curled up in the foetal position, smoke was still swirling from the scorched earth all around me.They had gone , yet i was unblemished but as my bleary eyes scanned my body i noticed with horror i had been rubber stamped with number 8's which covered my entire being.They have faded now but the experience has left me feeling completely.....alienated !
    Thanks for the tips Chris and if they do ever return to this galaxy at least i can relax in the knowledge that there will be an SD card in the camera.
    Maybe you didn't planet but you're definitely a STAR my friend. Cosmic.Previously unseen footage of them i have finally decided to release after 40 years and i chose your channel to break it to the world Chris.This is IT !

My first was a Fujica ST-701 which I bought in high school in...1972 😲 I also enjoy the high speed off topic intro you often use. I set AFC to focus and AFS to release on my XT2 as AFC can be a little slow and unreliable. I get much better results in AFC that way with most lenses. For street shooting, where you don't want to startle the subject, electronic shutter (silent) is better under most daytime lighting conditions unless the subject is moving very fast. For artificial light, mechanical is the way to go to prevent banding.

    Shooting without SD card: I consider this a "shop demo" setting, which is probably also why it's "on" by default! So that shops can easily demo you the camera, without having to fiddle with settings or put in an SD card.
    Indeed, this setting should be "off" forever when you actually own and use that camera!

    Learn something every time ... The "Shoot without a Card" is scandalous! I discovered that my X-T2 was set to "On"! That got changed quickly. And the X-T20 does not even have that setting. Shoot Without SD Card : Agreed : it is useless except for demonstration cameras
    Release/Focus Priority : You made a good argument to choose "release"
    Mechanical Electronic Shutter
    As a matter of fact, I fin d this setting so much useful that I affect it to a button, thankfully I am not so much limited on my X-Pro2 .
    As rolling shutter is much less prone on the latest camera models, ES is more recommendable and anyway you do not have so much choice (except for the X100x due to their leaf shutter) when you need to be silent.

  • @stivymalty_
    @stivymalty_ Před 3 lety

    Hi master. Fujifilm Release Priority is not exactly "ignore focus and boomm".
    That's a good test for you.
    This issue is my headache in Fuji cams, because no matter the setting is in "release priority", the cam will ever and ever and ever tries to get focus at least one time, and only after the internal command "error or success", it will release the shot.
    The Release Priority setting is like "Release even if the first focus check returns error".
    There are only 2 ways to get absolute Release Priority.
    1. Manual focus: the half buttom there's no function and the shutter get only the release function.
    2. Back buttom focus: same as the manual, the half pressed buttom there's no function, so, even if the scene is out of focus, the shutter buttom will release as a wel.
    With faster lenses, like the f/2 series, the time to "internal focus test" is very short and could be seems that the release priority is OK. But even with them, there's a fraction of time to run this focus test. In the slowest lenses, this settings sucks... There's no absolute "Release Priority".
    Just in time. I've tested in XT3, XT30, Pro2 and Pro3, with 16/2.8, 23/2 (very fast), 50/2 (the faster), 56/1.2 (very slow) and 18-55/2.8-4 (the slower).
    That is my bad experienced issue in my transition from Nikon DSLR to Fujifilm...
    In time, congrats for your channel. It's one of my favorites.
    Regards from Brazil.

    Totally agree, this is a must do. What the heck would you want to shoot for, without a sim card ?

    Hi Chris. I've been watching your channel for a long time now and I just want to thank you for being such an excellent presenter and a great resource for Fujifilm cameras. You're part of the reason I moved from Nikon to Fujifilm recently. I do have one comment on this video. It seems to me that some time ago you said an essential setting was "Shoot Without Lens" just in case you ever use a non-Fuji lens, otherwise the camera won't take pictures. Would that be number 4 of your list of must-have settings or have you taken a step back on this one? Thanks again for the immense amount of work you've put into all your great videos!

      Hey Don!! Great to see you here!!! Yes, Shoot w/ Lens would definitely be #4. I didn't include it on the list just because... well, I FORGOT, LOL!!!!! 👍

    My only problem with Shoot without SD card is that if you shoot RAW+JPEG, you cannot forget one of your cards at home, it will not allow you to just shoot with the one card without changing your capture settings to either RAW or JPEG.
