    Dreading packing for my daughters summer dance residential. A week for a 9 year old seems too much for me but I’m trying to embrace how excited she is to learn from amazing teachers xx

    In primary I called it PGL but in secondary I now call it a ‘school trip’ or ‘overnight school trip’. Some other year groups in primary did call it a residential because we only did pgl in year 6.

    In Australia it’s genuinely called a school camp. Generally in places catered for school aged children

    I would throw a cheapy pair of flip flops or sliders in for showers (aware from your instagram stories Will's already away but useful for future reference). I never went on any overnight trips in school but I remember there was at least one verucca outbreak amongst those who went on them. If there's communal showers its probably a good idea as they're not always the cleanest.
    "Woven Labels" also sell "rivetts" for attatching ribbon labels onto clothing without sewing and are like a plastic 2 part rivet that you peirce through the fabric and the label, put the cap bit on and break off the excess spike. They'd be ideal for towels or anything without a hanging loop already so it can be hung up to store or in the case of towels to dry (heard horror stories of waterlogged towels coming back from residential school trips from friends who have kids, if there's somewhere to hang it it might encourage them to actually do so😅 and would prevent clothing hung up whilst they're in the shower from falling off and getting soaked) If they're already labelled you could use a lighter to seal off the ends of a short length of ribbon instead: I've done that with cleaning cloths so I can hang a cloth only used once on a command hook on the back of a cupboard door to dry off before its used again.
    I'm probably one of your "younger viewers" as I'm 23 with no kids so not exactly your target demographic: but I am a late diagnosed AFAB autistic person who has had ZERO help from Adult Autism "services" in my area (they actually discharged me because I disagreed with them when they said "we think 'masking' is a good thing") and has had to figure out how to form routines and structure that don't cause me to burn out and assist with my executive dysfunction. Your channel has been amazing for that and for stratagies when I become overwhelmed and such.

    I absolutely love those labels! I literally labeled everything for my son from birth all his bottles have labels, his taggy (favourite blanket goes everywhere with us) I even labeled my changing bag too because I'm super forgot full & hoped if for whatever reason I forgot it,it would at least make its away back to me! x

    Hope Will has a fantastic time on his residential. We call them residentials round here (North Yorkshire). I laugh thinking back to my own two children when they had residentials and how my son came back with about 4 towels which weren’t his own and had worn the same hoodie for the three days he was away! 😂 X

    My twins are going on their year 6 residential in September! Glad it’s only two nights. If it was 4 there’s no way I could afford it! It’s costing £153 each just for two nights. I wouldn’t have paid £600+ in principle! We could have a week away as a family for that lol (we have a touring caravan and
    Actually some of the sites we go on are only £25ish per night including electric for all four of us!)

    School journey or residential. We were told no jeans so just packed joggers and those woven type sports bottoms. My youngest went away in year 3 for a few days and came back in the t shirt he left in - a lovely pale baby blue colour 🤦🏼‍♀️

      Why no jeans? You'd think they'd want kids in something not easily torn or damaged.

    • @sarahnewell6795
      @sarahnewell6795 Před rokem +1

      @@jwb52z9because if they get wet they take a long time to dry so not as good as joggers etc or the woven sports bottoms that almost repel water

    I would call it a school trip. I don’t think it’s a popular thing to do in America my daughter never did it. I did it when I was in 7th grade and it was just a weekend trip. I’m about the same age as you so that was a long time ago! I hope he had a wonder time!

    I love this idea. Where I went to school in the US, in the 80s and early 90s, overnight type trips weren't allowed unless it was for an academic competition a "big" high school sports tournament hours away from home. I know larger schools in the US do things like this trip, though. Of course, it would take hours of driving to get to such a place for most American schools. I can understand the "no sugary drink" thing actually at school during the day, but why are they banned on a school trip? Would they be including sports drinks that replace electrolytes?
