  • Testing Coin Care for conserving an 1850 braided hair large cent.
I picked up this large cent that had some green verdigris on the obverse and also bought this bottle of Coin Care to see if it would work to remove it and protect the coin. Check out the video to see the results.
    Stay safe

I've always wondered if there was a product to get details from a worn silver coin like nic a date for nickels. Also what happens if you use nic a date on a silver coin?

I have never used nic a date so don't know what the reaction would be on silver but since nic a date is ferric chloride I would assume it has no reaction on silver.
Nitric acid is used to etch silver but I don't think that would help with restoring the date

cardaddiction, thanks for stopping by to watch, I appreciate it.
I don't recall if I have covered it in the past but that would be a great subject to cover in a future video when I have time. Thanks for the suggestion.

13:27 is soap and water bad? You said it looks like some one cleaned the coin before OR used soap and water. So I’m new and confused. Cause cleaning is bad right? So does that mean soap and water is bad too? I’m just confused 😐

Yes there is a lot of confusing information when it comes to coins and cleaning.
No collectable coin should ever be cleaned even with soap and water. If it is valuable it is best to send it to a coin conservator service for them to handle it professionally.
The product I used here is meant to be a safe way to remove light surface crud and leave a protective coating on it but I would not use this on a valuable coin without consulting a coin dealer first that understands this product.

@@GDSavingThePast thank you. See kids that’s why you ask questions and do research before you do things. 😁

Happy Labor Day to you as well Philip.
I bought that on ebay and it was $9.71 including sales tax. I bought it from m.meghrig*sons
I bought the large cents from my LCS but they didn't carry the coin care
