I agree this should've been an update for TSW3 with the new features. It uses the same engine, so there's absolutely no reason why the previous game couldn't be updated. And the three new routes could be sold for TSW3 as a bundle. Now players have to buy a new game, and *yet again* do all the old achievements, services, etc. on old routes. TSW should be ONE unified platform now, with only updates and new content, not a separate release almost every year.

I live in the LA area and have ridden the Antelope Valley and other Metrolink lines quite a bit. To be fair to the development team, that's really what the hills around LA look like. Bland and brown mostly. In the spring they'll get covered in grass from rains, but most of the year it's really nothing to write home about. So in that respect, the dev team did a good job recreating what it actually looks like. They nailed the sounds for the F125.

It's quite disappointing that since TSW2, Dovetail still hasn't managed (bothered?) to have a full-fidelity steam engine simulation. I.e. water and injector management, coal-firing and the like. The base offering for steam looks good on the surface as is 'playable' (and dare I say appeals to the majority out there), but the lack of deep steam simulation is rather obvious now, being that we're into the 4th offering of this franchise...

You will never get this without having specs shooting trough the roof. You would need much more RAM to load it all to somewhere and it is just not practical or realistic. The problem more comes form how the game is coded. Specifically how it loads the enviroment.
To give an example look at Minecraft. You have loaded actually only very small part of the world and then you are loading and unloading chunks as you need them. It is same for every game. It just depends on coding how well you can hide the fact that it is happening.

The cost of the three new routes combined would (and will) individually exceed the cost of a TSW4 upgrade, so when you add on the graphical updates (which aren't gigantic but are definitely noticeable) it's worth it if you care about the route bundle. What I really dislike about TSW is the trend for new title every year or so.
I lack the confidence to invest in a specific TSW because there's no future in it.
Next year there will be TSW 5 and then, this one will also be lost. We will loose these routes and the trains we have it will basucally become obsolete. Of course it still works, but are we going to run it if we already have the next TSW?
I believe the best approach for the end user, will be to stick with one and keep updating it with new trains, new scenarios, new improved engine, etc. Maybe I can even accept a yearly pass or upgrade fee or something. But keeping every route and train we already had.

I do have to give the developers a lot of credit for the hard work they put into making these. Sure, we can complain about the textures and all that and it not looking any different than the previous versions, and every single update is a paid DLC. But still, we have it to enjoy. There are a lot of POSITIVES to it as well. For one, the scenery looks like the real place.

I have TSW 1, 2 and 3 and decided to buy TSW 4. Personally I feel it was a slight waste of money and the only saving grace is the improved graphics. I was hoping for more London Underground routes as I really enjoy the underground. The Bakerloo line is becoming a bit monotonous. A new underground route is a definite must but sadly lacking. I'm from Sydney Australia and Train Sim World really do need to put more "world" into their sim and Sydney Trains would be a massive injection into creating better simplay without doubt. I have said this many times... driving your train through the Sydney underground then coming up and over the Sydney Harbour Bridge and heading up the North Shore line would be amazing to say the least.

HI, thanks for the video; I liked your video and subscribed to your channel. I’m a long time flight simmer but I’m new to train simulators and looking to get my first train simulator. Would Train Sim World 4 or 3 be a good place to start? I got you mentioned in the video that Train Sim World 4 is a perfect introduction for new players so that answers part of my question but right now Train Sim World 3 is on sale for $15 on Steam and I was wondering whether I should get it or get Train Sim World 4 for twice the cost instead, or something else altogether.
Or do you recommend some other train simulator for beginners?

Honestly, apart from the visuals, none of the TSWs have come close to the depth, complexity, power and variety of the original Train Simulator (currently TS2021). The community is incredible - I can drive nearly 400 miles in one go if I so choose (London to Edinburgh), and the ability to edit scenarios is nothing short of dev level. If they could find a way of mass exporting and changing scenery items to fit the new engine, so EVERYTHING was preserved from the original, that would be worth a good price tag. Ever since TSW2, I can't help but feel that these sims have become pocket liners for the devs, with little of the original passion.

    • @potatoman451

Tsc and tsw are completely different games and use completely different engines. They can't port things over. If dtg had the size and budget of Microsoft, then maybe they would have the tech to build an entire railroad in one click but reality is that they don't so creating a 400 mile route within a reasonable time frame is out of the question unfortunately
