You should always loosen the fill bolts first. Just to know they're free. In case something goes wrong with them, you don't end up with a dry gearbox unable to move the car.

Wish I could trust my local ford garage to do this by the book. They certainly know how to charge for it! What I like about this tutorial, is that it's real world for most people. Not everyone has lifts. Great job guys.
Great video. My turbo diesel 2013 Mondeo's gearbox broke at just 44K miles. Everyone gave me piece of mind that Ford's and VW group's DCTs are rubbish and that I should has stayed away.
At that point, I learnt that the oil needs changing at 30K miles, which I wish my Ford authorised service centre recommended and did for me.
Costed me a bomb to get gearbox reconditioned, and I hope that it lasts me for good few years.

“limited transmission function” warning comes on intermittently. Ford wanted £600 to change fluid and then probably tell me i needed a new box. Will try your method first. Thank you.

This is exactly what I am facing at the moment. My car jerks and stalls when I try to accelerate. It is a 2014 Ford Mondeo 2.0L Titanium model
43 NM for the plug/screws and 15Nm forvthr filter housing and You should fill up the filter housing with approx 0.1l of oil/fluid before screwing it on.

Thanks. One additional note - there's no need to pull that plastic catch on gearbox oil filter housing, last time we tried just simply undoing it, it didn't break - just was clicking over.

Great video , i’ve just changed the oil & filter on my Volvo powershift that was 40k overdue , the oil that came out was really clean , thought it would have been dirty to be honest

I normally do my engine oil & filter every 12k , its on 150k now & still running perfectly , never had any engine or powershift issues in the 7 years ive had it ! Probably just cursed it now 🤣🙈

One little update on that little plastic hook on a filter housing. I think there's no need to pull it up, it shouldn't break, it will just click over.

I bought 6 liter w/filter from Meyle as I assume is the same quality as the Ford Oil . And better price
Got a mechanic who works for ford coming to do this fluid and filter change. He tells me ford would change £200plus.
Hes gona do it for 125.

@@wawayltd I would be cautious if a mechanic stands to make £25 profit. In my mind he is not using the correct oil or will not replace the filter or is stealing the parts from ford.

I know that VAGs require certain temperatures when servicing DSGs, but with Ford as far as I know - it's simple as that.

My Sharan is manual. I have no experience with DSG. In my personal opinion I prefer manual - no headache.
Hi so after getting the gearbox service from ford i noticed when i checked under the transmission when i removed the cover theres leaking could this be down to them over filling not fully letting the extra oil pour out
I would say not that likely, probably there's a leak somewhere or your clutch is going bad - the guy who owns this Galaxy in the video had trouble with clutch couple times. He also had leak from gearbox oil cooler..

For automatic gearboxes you can do service every 60 000. For manual around 30 000 - 40 000 miles.
not for this poweshift gearbox which is actually dual clutch...

You don't know for sure if the amount you drained is exactly correct, maybe there are some little leaks. At the end you'll have correct amount anyway.

Is it possible to over fill the transmission? Bought a 2013 ford Grand C max in Romania, transmission was serviced in Romania, after driving car now for 2 months transmission has started slipping, wouldn't go in reverse:-( turned car off, restarted and then it will go in reverse. Thought would be a good idea to check level immediately! took plug out, and fluid started running out probably more than a liter. in your video you state it should only drip out not pour out. what do you think could it have been over filled?

I think after driving it would be slightly over that hole and some oil would come out, probably not as much as litre.
Have a powershift auto and when cruising on the motorway the rev counter moves up and down by 200-300 rpm. This is worse when the engine is working harder to get up a hill. A diagnostic showed no codes. Some suggest it may be fixed by gearbox oil change...have you any experience of this problem??

Hi, I have a 2015 Fors Galaxy with the powershift gearbox which is jurking in 1st, 2nd and reverse. Also when driving the revs are not steady, keeps bouncing slightly like a manual clutch is slipping specially when going uphill. Would a gearbox oil change resolve this or is this a new gearbxo? Am not getting any errors on dashboard. Any help would be much appreciated.
Oil and filter in the gearbox need to be replaced regularly anyway. I would try that first and and see how it goes.

8 liters of oil came out of the transmission section of my 2016 focus Powershift 6-speed vehicle. According to your video, I replaced it with 6 liters of oil, which is correct?
This video shows how to fill correct amount - up to the level plug. I don't know whether it's 6 or 8 litres in your gearbox. It just must be levelled.
@@wawayltd I watched these and similar videos and decided to change the transmission oil. I started replacing it with 6 liters of oil, but it surprised me that 8 liters came out of it. There is no dipstick to measure the transmission oil level.
Just fill up to that level control hole on the side, it's there instead of dipstick.

My 2014 galaxy does this thing where if you put your foot down more than usual say to overtake it’ll say limited transmission. Then it’ll rev up and down while it looks for a gear. At this point I have to select neutral before it drops it into 1st. I pull over switch it off then on again and everything is back to normal again. I guy once stopped to see if everything was alright and he seemed to know the issue as he had the same car. Something to do with taking something off and cleaning it but I have know idea what.

Car has always been extensively serviced.

With the mileage, solenoids that control oil valves catch metal shavings. To prevent that, inside the gearbox, there are few stripes with magnets that are supposed to catch all this little rubbish. However, with the flow of time, they catch a lot, so they are not effective anymore. Also, solenoids, being magnets effectively, catch any tiny shavings and get sticky. Owner of the car in the video replaced those solenoids ( they also can be cleaned). Of course, you need to make sure that at your garage they actually change oil and filter..
I'll try to find the video about those solenoids to give you an idea.
By the way, bad solenoids throw an error when you scan gearbox for fault codes.

@@wawayltd it has been serviced by Ford. Gearbox performs perfectly smooth. Absolutely no issue with day to day running it’s just when you ask for more ie overtake. No fault codes are ever found when the issue accurs.
This guy that stopped seemed to think it’s not sollinoid issue. Told me it was some sort of electrical component to take off and clean with WD40 and put back on. Certainly not full open heart surgery. I have come across these vids before,thanks.

It can have trouble simply if it wasn't serviced for long (I mean gearbox service). Also it can be more complicated if solenoids are contaminated. It needs to be diagnosed by specialist.
How many litres did you add to the gearbox?
About 6, but it's good to have a little extra.

It doesn't get black like diesel engine oil, but still needs to be changed regularly.
my car is year 63 / 2013 so why do they tell me i need to pump the oil and use special tools?
If your car is VW, Seat, Audi... then you do need to pump and special tools.

I had it repaired by 3D transmissions in Reading, but I had to send it back 4 times in the 12 month warranty period.
And as soon as the 12 month warranty was over we lost reverse gear, but forward gears work fine!
I live in Bristol, here we have GRGB - Gloucester Road Gear-Boxes. Not sure how good they are. As I know they may ask up to 3k for a rebuilt gearbox.

@@charliecosworth I have the exact same problem in my 2010 galaxy powershift. Forward gears engage but not perfectly but reverse won't engage at all!

Gearbox oil and filter need to be changed every 35k miles anyway. I think it worth doing it to see if it helps.
There are more advanced procedures, such as valve solenoids cleaning or replacement. Have a look for that.

I don't like automatic gearboxes, especially modern complicated ones, manuals are definitely more reliable. All my cars have manual gearboxes.
These robotic gearboxes are ok, while mileage is low, then problems start just building up.
В трансмиссии PowerShift должно быть 5,6 л. масла. 10:38 до этого момента правильно, сейчас в коробке 5,6 л. Ничего доливать НЕ НАДО!!!! В противном случае уровень масла будет выше сальников и появится течь через сальники. Где вы взяли информацию о таком способе заливки масла в PowerShift? В документации на коробку написано: слив-залив 5,5 л. и ещё 0,1 л. - фильтр. Итого 5,6 л.
Я руководствовался инструкциями Ford Etis. Какая-то программа с мануалами наподобие ваговской Elsawin. Вроде как дилера ею пользовались...
Если влить 5.5 литра, по крайней мере у того Галакси уровень не дотягивает до уровнего слива.
@@wawayltd необходимо залить 6 литров масла. Завести мотор и попереключать селектор, как у тебя в видео. Потом открутить пробку уровня и слить лишнее масло. Останется ровно 5,6л. В фильтре 0,1 л., в коробке 5,5. 0,1 +5,5 = 5,6л.

Hi I have a 2014 tdci I have all gears and revers is bit temperamental old owner not changed gear fluids or filters could this be my issue ?
This Ford also had glitches when bought because the gearbox wasn't serviced. Service needs to be done anyway, so try it and see if it helps.
