  • Hello dear viewers :)
    In today's video we will be talking about the very interesting precious metal silver! Silver is one of the most important metals for our economy all around the world, yet the price of physical silver is very low compared to how useful silver is. So today we will talk about aspects of this amazing precious metal, how you can invest in it, if you want to do that.
    Silver coins and bars are usually best suited for investment purposes.
    Eventhough I like silver and have had a lot of experience over the years, none of this information that I share with you in my videos is financial consulting in any way and you should always do your own research as I'm just stating my opinion.

    I bought an ounce of silver a week and an ounce of gold a month from 1994 until 2005. I recently started stacking again and only buy generic bars. No reason to pay even a penny more than you have to. In a real SHTF scenario the only stack that matters will be your brass, lead, and powder.

    • @scrappingadventures290
      @scrappingadventures290  Před rokem +4

      Well, why bother with silver then? ;) Brass, lead and powder do not contain any of it. However, and here's the important bit: Owning those is as illegal as it gets over here, so that's not an option. I have bows and most importantly a farm. I left my country before, so I'll be doing that again if it gets too bad again, as I now have my prove of concept. Silver might be useful for that, but also incredibly risky because the more you take with you, the bigger the target on your back gets. One car. Everything that doesn't fit into that is gone. Silver only works for that if civilization works where you are going. How likely is that when you have to leave a massive country like (I'm assuming that's where you live) the US? Not very, in my opinion. So if s really hits the fan, and I mean REALLY, because otherwise you wouldn't need any of the stuff anyways, having so much value with you, with no real way of defending it against, for example, a lot of armed attackers, is a massive risk. As I said, might work if everything is fine where you're headed, but the likelihood of that being the case is tiny. Want some advice from someone who already had to leave their country once? Take a big Peli case and really think about how you can fill that thing so that you make it absolutely everywhere. That is much easier than you think. Fill the gaps with silver, if you feel like it gives you an advantage, but don't make it too heavy. Until then, I like my coins and I'm not about to sit here and make my life less fun before anything happens, been there, done that, not worth it. I like silver bullion, but not for the 50% markup we have to pay in europe at the moment. Thanks for watching, all the best 👍👍😊

      @@scrappingadventures290 I really don't bother too much with silver anymore. I get gold more often than silver these days.
      I am in the US, and also have a couple of sling shots and bows, because at the end of the day even bullets and powder are finite, but you can always pick up a stone for the sling and make arrows for the bow.
      In a real SHTF scenario the only thing that will matter is survival. Anything that gets in the way of that gets removed with prejudice.
      As someone that has been to many countries I am very keen on traveling light. As someone that has been homeless I am very aware of what real survival is like. As someone with a family I have an exit strategy for a few scary situations.

    It all depends on what the intent is. If the person has the ability to run a resale operation, buy the low-mintage products that have the potential to be valuable in a year or two. If you're holding silver to sell next time the spot price spikes, buy the absolute cheapest stuff you can -- when silver spiked in 1981, and again in 2011, premiums on collectables no longer existed, everything was bullion and a lot was melted down. It didn't matter if you had a generic silver bar or if you had a super-awesome super-rare collectable, it was all sold at the same price. Even morgan dollars were being melted for spot price in 1981. The biggest danger is seeing that something has already jumped higher in value and assume it will continue to jump even higher.

    • @scrappingadventures290
      @scrappingadventures290  Před rokem +3

      Yeah, because Morgans weren't worth more to begin with 😅 There were literally hundreds of millions of them out there, absolutely no collector's value. At least for most of them. However, everything was most definitely not worth spot, that's ridiculous and I know that it's not true. A lot of things of course were, just because the price obviously made up for the premium, but a draped bust dollar from 1804 is not randomly worth spot because spot moved up a bit. There's literally 15 of them out there, I'd imagine that it was worth at least 20 grand, even back then. Talking about 2011, adjust that for Inflation for the 80's. So if one melted that down, he'd be a lunatic and deserved to lose his money in such a dumb way.

If your coins are worth a lot numismatically, even if that market crashes, the silver content will save you. If the silver market crashes all the way down to zero, the old quarters and other coins are still going to be worth money because of their age and rarity. So I'm covered both ways. Absolutely, and you probably are in the US, so you can do that somewhat easily, unfortunately we have to pay 20% tax on silver, that was the reason why everything was trading at at least 35% over spot at the time I made the video, but it has gone down quite a bit since then, fortunately.

      Damn! A 20% tax on silver? Each state in America has its own sales tax policy. In my state there is no sales tax, so grateful for that. But the state just south of me charges 6 1/2%. Man that’s a bummer. But it’s still well worth it to keep buying! Best wishes for the new year to you.

      That's really nice, I hope we can get rid of this damn tax again in the future, typical left wing government, said oh, we will tax the richt! Then they figured out that "the richt" are paying their bills and just taxed the middle and working class, way easier 🤣🤣 I hope we can get rid of them and this bogus tax in the next election, let's see.

    "Bullion coin" is a misnomer.
    The definition of bullion is UNCOINED silver/gold precious metals. So, it is a conflict of terms to have an uncoined-coin
    Really, the difference is the past or current guaranteed value from the sovereign minting the coin. A coin has value via the intrinsic PM but also the stamped value.
    Bullion does not (excluding numismatics).
    So, if we hypothetically ended up having a massive new supply of gold via space mining, making gold's value insignificant, the guaranteed government value would hold value on a coin. However, gold bullion would make the bar/ingot worth that of a base metal with only purity and weight.
    Here is a good example differentiating bullion and coins,
    Executive Order 6102: April 5, 1933, by US President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The order is "forbidding the hoarding of gold coin, gold bullion, and gold certificates within the continental United States."
    FDR differentiates gold coins and gold bullion. No mention of 'bullion coins'.
    Cheers and Merry Christmas!

    • @scrappingadventures290
      @scrappingadventures290  Před rokem

      Not sure I really agree with that, definitions change over time, I don't really think they are a very reliable way of determining what a word means, because what it means is heavily influenced by what is understood when using the word.
      Spacemining however is bullshit. The only thing humanity could maybe think about mining in the next couple of centuries would be the moon. Too bad that thing barely has any precious metals on it. So to consider mining other planets or asteroids, we would need to be in Star trek age and believe me, that's not gonna happen by 3022. So it's questionable wether humanity even still exists before spacemining can be a thing. So what do I care. Not one bit.
      Anyways, thank you, you have a merry Christmas as well.

    • @good2goskee
      @good2goskee Před rokem

      @Scrapping Adventures
      Yes, I think space mining is far-fetched in our lifetime. Agreed! Perhaps deep sea mining is more probable. I used the asteroid example to demonstrate a supply change in gold, which would ultimately reclassify the PM to a BM. This would show the only difference between bullion and a coin would be a coin's fiat value vs. bullion, which would have little to no value in that situation.
      Using the term bullion coin is sort of a redundancy. The term bullion, by some, has been co-opted to mean "precious." The redundancy is the obvious fact that a gold/silver coin is precious, and it doesn't need to be re-enphasized. I think it is better said to refer to a gold coin or gold bullion.

    Definition of a bullion coin: A coin thats struck to the lowest standard in order to keep production costs minimal in which can be passed to the customer whos looking to buy silver closest to spot as possible.
    Definition of a PROOF coin: A coin that is struck to the highest quality a mint can produce.
    If your a coin collector you should opt for proof finish coins. If your a stacker then you buy bullion.
    Simples, hope that clears up any milk spotting tears for american coin collectors buying the wrong grade of coin.

There's a reason why 98% of all the silver ever produced is gone. It's not in someone's basement, it's spread in the countless landfills and burned up piles of computer scrap all over the world. There wouldn't be any issue to get the silver needed for that and banning it is just pointless because you couldn't even take away everything from people that contains silver.

    • @scrappingadventures290
      @scrappingadventures290  Před rokem

      I think that highly depends on one's definition of "bullion". For me, collectible coins are not bullion, but in general, they probably are. The words collectible and bullion just kinda clash for me, so I tend to refer to them as different things. Collectible coins where the only thing one could make good money with silver coins for a long time, my stack would be less than half of its current size if it weren't for collectible coins that I bought a lot of and sold at a later date. The value increase of those coins is incredible, some of the ones I bought in 2020 have more than tripled in value and I sold a good chunk of them. The ones that I still have now where completely free because of the profit of the ones that I sold. So there certainly is a mayor difference between the useless markup on unlimited bullion coins, that don't have any collectors value and the markup on collectible coins that can make someone incredible amounts of money in a very short period of time. Lots of stuff to consider. Thanks for watching 👍👍👍😊

    1) I think the title of the video could be better.
    You explain why you have stopped buying "Standard Bullion Coins" in Favour of buying "Semi-Numismatic Bullion coins".
    Buy your title says "I stopped buying silver bullion coins.". So you have a a whole lot of people commenting, who I don't think even watched to the end.
    2) You explain at the end that, you flip the coins for profit, and keep some of that profit as silver coins.
    You then call that profit free and "you don't care what the price of silver was" because it was "free". Its not really free as flipping any product takes some time, knowledge, and risk. Even if you enjoy it.
    To nit-pick a little. The value of your profit is cash/€‎(yes i'm assuming that currency) and the value in the left over coins is stored as, numismatique/collectors-value and underlying silver value. So you should care a little about the silver price and weight, as it does effect the profit value, even if just a little.

    I really don't know the US Precious metals market, but I think you are missing one important aspect of Bullion coins: Liquidity. This means they are well recognized coins/rounds that are easier to sell in case of a hurry in need for cash or even an emergency. Collectibles can be very expensive and rare, and because of that, far harder to sell by the same price you paid for them or take profit, in case you could need cash quickly at a given moment. I think having the best of two worlds (Bullion/Premium) is a good thing and they don't have to be in oposition.
