- Can you give a monster bush plane a lift? đ€š Lets find out! I got tired of dealing with the limitations that the stock suspension gave me, namely not being able to change out the shocks, so I went to work redesigning them and creating a much better suspension!

Haha probably so.

I will be 64 yrs old next week, I watch Mike or Mark (hard to tell them apart sometimes) and I'm a teenager again. EVERYTHING is Possible (look out Tony Robinson type Speakers) ... Theses guys don't Talk.. They Walk/Run then Zoom!
My Favorite Channel (Thank you Trent Palmer for the introduction to the Flying Cowboys and the Pateys)
Hello sir! just wanted to drop a quick line to you...I dont own a plane, nor do I fly...but I subscribed to you because I love watching your engineering, designing, fabricating, building, etc skills! I am mesmerized by everything you do....I run AutoCAD myself, designing and drawing stainless steel restaurant equipment....but nothing on the level of things you do....love all of it! keep these videos coming......oh, and I love watching all you guys fly too....that is some killer stuff...GO Flying Cowboys! :-)
Same here! Greetings from germany! Very sick engineering skills. Would love to work on projects with a genius like Mike. ;)

Outstanding! Mike Patey--the only man who lives a 48-hour day!
Mike is quickly becoming one of my favourite people to watch on CZcams. Itâs fascinating hearing his thought process on pros and cons of different ideas. I donât build planes, but his problem solving gets my brain thinking about my own hobby projects. Thanks for putting effort into these videos Mike!
What is your hobby?
Your commitment, perfection, dedication, and innovation deservers a Wright Brother award. Keep up the awesome work!
I had my whole day planned. I am going to do this, this and this...then I will go here and ... *NOTIFICATION OF MIKE PATEY VIDEO* ...well, so much for that plan. I think I will stay in my Lazyboy and binge on Draco videos.

Oh, so I'm not the only one? :P
Yep
That's probably the most beautiful tig joint I've ever seen!
When I first saw how he engineered that mount I was intrigued. I expected a nice tig weld, I then saw him walking the cup and thought to myself "OK, this guy is just showing off now". What an inspiration Mike is. Wow

Mike: I got 4 days. hold my beer.

You have inspired me to get my pilots licence after years of thinking about it so thank you for that. Also your design and engineering is incredible keep up the awesome work đđŒ

WOW, Your an amazing Engineer and Craftsman. You make it look so EASY ! Just beautiful !
While I wait for Scrappys wing I went through the Draco build again. Just never gets old. Thanks for all you do.
I'm no pilot, but I am an engineer. It's fascinating to watch your designs go from drawing board to completion. Keep up the awesome work.
Just watched your landing a bunch of times.....less than three seconds from touchdown to full stop !!!
Takeoff...same deal, under three seconds. Jaw dropping.
I have never seen a happier and more motivated guy in my life. I had a silly grin on my face watching; youâre attitude is infectious!
Love how this guy REALLY explains the nuts and bolts of the equation on any build, the who, the what and the why but if this is your forte, then its awesome when you understand as well.
Amazing work!! I have been following since you first started with Draco Every addition has been beautifully done. You sir are a skilled individual from CAD-CAM to engineering and aerodynamics! Keep the videos coming!
You put trophy truck suspension on it. You could do the Baja 1000 on that thing... On the ground.
Not even close to trophy truck suspension.
Bonanza Driver r/whoosh
@@ryanschaff123 I know that.... Trophy trucks have 29 inches of travel bud.
The whole time I was thinking "Man, this guy went offroad racing like me, and now he is building trophy truck parts for his plane." So yep. I have actually met people who went either way, from planes to offroad fabrication, or the other way. Two pinnacles of engineering.
@@mjodr that's is kinda what I was thinking when I saw this also lol I never had a trophy truck but I did have a Ranger prerunner with a mid travel suspension.
Mike... Words escape me!! I've met some people with a real zeal for life (in my 70 yrs)... but YOU, my friend... are on a whole other "plane" all together!!...(lol No pun was intended). Has it ever occurred to you, to just be You and do presentations to today's hopeless young people about what can be accomplished with the right attitude, abilities and faith in yourself to "do it"?!? The US Army's "Be all you can be" slogan.. is Nothing compared to You!! Wow!... just WOW!!
I don't know if your folks are still "with you" or not.... but, I sure would have loved to have been "a little church mouse" hiding in a corner of your home, and just observed their process of raising and training you for life.... they must be some of the most Awesome parents any kid could have had!!
They must be Incredibly proud of You... and your brother, Mark and seeing the results of all they helped you both, to become!! Do you have any sisters??.... Love your Videos, love the engineering and carrying it out with absolute Excellence... you're truly an inspiration to the many thousands of those who have been following you, and Mark... on here.
You're also Very blessed to have the Incredible (and, may I say.. Beautiful) Supporting wife that you have... she is definitely a "keeper". Not too many wives would have been so supporting and loving as she has been... and she showed her "true colors" the day you "lost" Draco.... Stay Safe, and may the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.... Bless and fly with you, ALWAYS... and keep you Safe.
Mike, your the perfect example of what happen when intelligence, skill and ambition collide. I have never seen someone so enthusiastic and who melds the art and science of flight together so amazingly well. I agree with a previous commenter, mesmerizing!!

Just watching this after scratching for novel videos in my solitary confinement, Draco RIP. Mike, you're awesome, your energy, ingenuity and unbridled joy in what you do is infectious! Love your work, your enthusiasm and your expertise.
Be safe, be well đ Back To Work! đȘ
I'm lost for words! Mike, you are an incredible person!
Best wishes from Ireland!
You sir deserve the Bob Hoover award! Awesome stuff
I can honestly say that this is what a genius looks like when he is working at full potential. Tirelessly working with a love unnaturally rare and strong, combined with the recourses, skillset, and knowledge acquired to achieve his goal. Never is there any thought to rest while there is still time to work. Thinking only about how efficiently he can best utilize his time so as not to waste a moment. It appears effortless for him to accomplish the thousands of tasks running through his mind without compromising quality for expediency.
You could not pay anyone to work this way if you were able to find someone with the resources and skillset to do so. It takes the obsession of a genius.
I think Mike is the only guy IN THE WORLD who can put a 36 hour day in a 24 hour period! !! !!! GREAT MODIFICATION
Awesome execution. This was my favorite one of your videos! Great action.
Draco needs a smoke system ..every dragon makes smoke .. and it would look pretty wicked on takeoff.
Smke and more importantly fire, every dragon spits fire.... đ
@@airgliderz That's what I'm saying. For demos. Oh yeah. Coming in slow and breathing fire. Snorting fire puffs on short take off after squatting under power. Too much! For the average person.
NOOOO, On landing in full reverse LOL Just make an instant huge cloud and hide the plane.....
Knowing Mike a simple smoke system won't work, he would probably design something that would blow our minds.
True-Lies84 canât be plain ol white smoke though.
If there was Nobel Inspiration Prize that would definitely go to Mike Patey. His creativity, motivation, energy, determination, materialization of ideas into final products are phenomenal. He puts his mind and soul into every detail of the production stage and even most technical stuff evolves into an entertainment. Thank you, Mike.
It was a pleasure standing back in the hangar and watching you and Ron work your magic on part of this project! I've always enjoyed watching you think, problem solve and create, delivering the physical product with amazing speed and precision!

Your welding of those coped joints on the CrMo tubular struts is gorgeous!
Every time you conclude a scene with â... back to work.â I have a good laugh.
That would make a great title for your channel: âBack to Workâ.
This video should be shown in every shop class on earth. Fabulous.
You HAVE to do a short segment/interview with your videographer. Thanks a million and GOOD LUCK.
Thank you so much, I appreciate your kind words and support. Iâll be adding q&a segments in future videos.

That landing within a body length, and takeoff within two in the first :30 was AMAZING!
Indeed, it seems to be working outside the laws of physics!
I was a lifelong mechanic welder and fabricator, JOAT, Mike is the best at what he does more so than anyone I have ever seen performing their talents period, the great part is he can keep smiling.
You are a crazy man and I love it! This plane is so nuts.
AHhhhhhhhh............I give ya an A++ for the tig welds !...and the parts YOU made....... holy crapo,...... NICE JOB,VERY NICE .....see ya at Oshkosh !

This is my second time viewing. Wonderful watching a genius working not to mention your never ending enthusiasm and bottomless energy. Every time you open your mouth and speak you educate. Thank you for your videos.
I love your work Ethic and I love the Back to Work đ
You should check out adaptive electronic shocks. Full adjustment in milliseconds and just a few pounds of electronics. Also I was just thinking of a bucket list item. It would be cool to land Draco on an aircraft carrier without any assistance from the ships catapults. Love the builds..
aircraft carrier? mike could land on an 20ft pontoon boat lol
Or a garbage barge.... fully loaded.
A C-130 did that in 1963... Draco could perform all it's maneuvers in the length of the carrier.....
Draco could land on an AC then take off and land about 10 times before running out of deck.
Draco could have done a stol drag comp on a carrier. They're huge floating cities.
As a retired machinist I can appreciate the amazing skill you have machining all the parts for your mods. Looking forward to see a little more machine time. Love your enthusiasm so Letâs get to work. đ©âïžđ§
This is why I keep coming back for your videos.
Hey man, love your channel, amazing work on the Wilga, your engineering skills are something else- greetings from a fellow aviator from Latvia!
Sorry about your plane brother, I know that took a lot out of your happiness meter!
One heck of a DIY. Another fun and intriguing project/video. Thanks for sharing Mike.
So impressed, so watch your health. That amount of lack of rest does catch up with your body, heart, and vital organs. There is a limit and it is not evident at the moment. Love you guys and fly safe! đ
Thanks for the info. I was wondering why you were upgrading! see you at Oshkosh!
Sorry to hear Draco crashed at Reno but glad to hear you all walked away. Will you be putting the pieces back together?
I don't think he's said anything publicly, but the safe money is on "yes". It was heavily damaged, but not beyond repair. ...Extensive, extensive repair. Personally, I'm excited to hear what he's planning. Either he's going to fix it or build a new one (Draco II?) :-)
Scrappy!
Mike I am in awe of your energy and capabilities! Next level! Respect man! Thank you for sharing these great videos!

New drinking game: every time he says "back to work" or "I am excited" or does a fist pump, you must drink a shot. If you are still alive by the end of the video, you win (although you really lost when tomorrow's hangover hits you)
The only way to survive that is to use Bud Lite... but then you'd be drinking Bud Lite... Sooo, I'm sorry liver, it's been nice knowing you.
EDIT: Yep, you'd be dead. Just went through and did a tally.
Get/back to work, I'm excited, awesome or a fist pump: 40 shots in 30 minutes
Not a bad game... but I think whenever he says "back to work", I'll get back to building my RV-8. I should have it done in three days...
And that's how you get alcohol poisoning.
I turned a buddy onto Mike's channel, during OSH last year. I told him he has to drink for every fist pump and chug, if he does a double. :D
Mike, it just ain't fair to bring a spring-loaded helicopter to a STOL competition!
It's not spring loaded... yet...
To be fair I'm beginning to think his objective is just to get his AoA so high his prop is pointing vertical.
This video had me totally geeking out Mike. I'm a design engineer and use SW daily for my stuff. Seeing CAD to part is always so fun, put it on a plane, and wow. Nice welds too.
Mike Iâve been following you since Trent first introâd you and draco on his channel. Youâre incredible talented and it seems like you think of EVERYthing. Thanks for all the great content!
Yah whatever....

I stand corrected...đđđ€Ł
I have a 71 Ford Pinto in my driveway, I am offering Mike the chance to try it : D
I loved this video. The engineering is fantastic. However, I think someone has already solved this problem of hard landings, compression, and all the other headaches of high-stress short landings. Look no further than the U.S. Navy carrier landing program and the heavy-duty undercarriage systems that are used to put a multi-ton jet on a carrier deck and walk away in one piece.
Mike, Iâm going to show your videos to my 11 year old daughter as an example of pure dedication and ingenuity. Amazing
Mike, I love watching your videos. What you do is simply amazing. Your energy, drive and attention to detail is inspiring.
I'm proud that it's based on a Polish plane.
DRACO like a phoenix from ashes.
If you figure out the spring launch, you'll essentially have turned Draco into a VTOL.
Mike I just love listening and watching you quickly and easily explain complex engineering issues for aviation. Your work and skills at design and fabrication are just supremely a joy to watch. Thank you and keep doing this even though the filming slows you down... well slights slower than c .
