I live in Central Austin. North Central. Kind of a mix. I walk to coffee shops and other places. It is nice for kids and teens around here to be able to walk to places and bike and hop on the bus to Barton and downtown, etc.

I have lived in Round Rock for over 20 years. It's OK but I grew up in Vermont so that's really hard to compare for me.
I like the hills but yes the heat is unbearable in the summer.

You went back 100 years to give context to South vs North but you totally skipped the racial aspects of East, which is a very important part of the story. Austin in the 80s/90s was still segregated for the most part. I think the city has now changed from race to economic segregation but telling the story is important. I worked on the campaign for former City Council member Eric Mitchell in the early 90s and was shocked to learn that there was a gentleman's agreement for Place 6 to be occupied by a Hispanic and Place 7 to be occupied by a Black person. Thise two seats were "At Large" seats which was done specifically to lessen the power of those positions and make them accountable to all voters across the city, while the other council folk were elected by those in their district. Luckily I grew up a foot over the city limits in Del Valle so I had a front row seat to all the madness. All of that is part of the story of South Austin though. Dove Springs, Montopolis, and East Riverside/Oltorf are all South Austin.

And I agree- that's a huge part of the story.
