Thanks for interesting video and insight into the newsagents business.
I do remember as a kid our local newsagents would be mobbed around midday on Sunday after mass. That's all gone!
    Wish you well

Compared to my youth most towns and villages today are economic museums of their former selves. That local economy saw a large number of children reared behind counters and on small farms. Plus the service in shops was way better then because it was families as opposed to staff. Kids learned how to deal with people.
Now it's all about GDP and something called the circular economy that is a myth. If GDP is up it is deemed successful with the fewest large companies dominating each sector and main streets homogenized.
We have slipped a long way as we copy modernity.

Good video from someone who knows what he is talking about. I have a lot of respect for the wiliness of small traders and businesspeople who always need to be thinking ahead. You cannot stand still, as Terry said. To be fair, it also applies to ordinary workers who know their line of work is under threat and who need to reskill etc as new industries emerge and other ones die out each year

Lack of bank credit for small businesses is what is killing them off.
Also the middle classes is in decline so any small businesses serving them are struggling

Change is every day for the good and for the bad. You can use this in many industries. For example, the irish pub or bar is slowly disappearing.

Its true for you .Easons ,the one in Cork i see has been down sizing and adapting over the years ,it really isn't what it used to be.The few remaining magazine racks are shoved away into little back room and even book areas have been downsized . Its sad times but then nothing remains constant only change 👍

The issue is taxation in Ireland. It is too high and pushes business to the point they cannot compete with E-commerce.

    Wholesalers were actually cartels .
Successive governments protected cartels instead of dismantling them .

Hi Terry it's very true in what you say about change and adopting in the buisness world. This is true in every aspect of life, its very nature is evolution and if you refuse to change you will inevitably become extinct. Nothing in life stays the same.

Taxes and regulations on the Irish economy are too high and prohibit growth and market access. The one sector that is booming has lower taxes and less regulations.

Once the market is right sentimental will flow. Consumers are like that. Apple right now has lots of consumer sentiment on their side but that can change.

They are not buying them because society and market has been devalued. We see it in everything. What now remains is a few media conglomerates in each country producing below standard content. Local newspapers are now the only player in town.
