(Since I've been seeing some confusion, I'd like to clarify that OG Phos' skin tone isn't meant to be darker than how they normally appear, it's just that I didn't take into account how upping the saturation would look in comparison to their surroundings, haha. I was going for the warm vibes I got from a Midsommar poster.)
Six months ago I began work on this AMV, making it the longest time I've worked on an animation. Hard to believe that's half a year! In addition, the upload date of this animation marks two years of drawing every day. Yes, I have been doing that still, I just haven't been posting my monthly updates. Too much of a hassle, lol.
Generally speaking, I wanted this animation to explore what it was like for Phos during the 10,000 years. We know they lived through memories on a loop, but which ones and how clear they are is more up for fan interpretation.
Post-10,000 years, Phos seems to remember their early days, unlike how it was before, so I'd imagine that over time the order of events became clearer. But at first, I think that they'd get things mixed up. What did they look like when they were shattered for 220 years, who were they talking to that one time- things like that.
I'd also like to add that the choice to hide Phos' eyes for most of this video is based on the symbolism from the series. In HNK, eyes have become symbolic of one's desires. Phos cycles through many different desires, all of which would certainly become jumbled due to the state of their mind.

What the hell? This video took so many different aspects of talent to make. From being so talented at art, to being amazing at animation, to artistic direction, music rhythm and for the love of god the EDITING. Jesus you're a freaking prodigy. Like just seeing the rotoscope technique being used made my jaw drop. It took so much knowledge, passion and talent to make this video across different spectrums of technique. Simply amazing.

I’ve had this idea for years lol. The Mind Electric is my favorite song of all time. Typically when animating, I get a little tired of the song I’m using, but I never felt that with this song.
I don't know why but it made me cry this manga came at a moment in my life where I felt vulnerable thank you for making me feel this way ❤I need it to go forward

The scene with phos looking down at the scattered panels is perfect, it feels like the moment they're realizing this is a story, that every painful experience was authored and directed by others they couldn't see, that their life was laid out long before they were even born, that really, there was never any other outcome for them.

where do I even begin? The rotoscoping. You did so well with it! The different styles for different versions of phos----- OMFG--- GORGEOUS. I've already watched this like 4 times aarrggh its so damn good! I love the different artstyle/medium/vibes u used for different portions of the story. It rlly feels like phos going through all these disjointed fragmented memories they've experienced with strange and inexplicable images mixed in. Such a good atmosphere. The white expanding lines towards the end represents all the remnants of humanity getting prayed for right?

This AMV was so beautifully made and intrigued me so heavily about what HnK was, that I've now fallen deep into a hyper fixation for it. I really wish I new about it before it ended but better late then never!

OP i hope you know this is literally driving me insane in the best way possible. the colors the transitions the everything the use of the dandelion for the scattering sparks part and my jaw literally DROPPED when the dip hit and you transitioned with phos clutching their eye with all the manga panels spread out. is that live action???? I'm seriously blown away by this. Houseki No Kuni has many, many great animatics but this is easily on of my favorites thus far.

So im compiling a list all of the INSANE care and details i noticed watching this, because this whole AMV is SO GOOD at using different artstyles and effects to create such an uncanny and scary feel that pairs SO WELL with the uncanny and creepy music
0:00 the text wobble AND THEN IN WOBBLES INTO A TRANSITION INTO THE NEXT SCENE SEEMLESSLY???
0:04 the sunglare??? also i have no idea how people do things like the grass wobble with rigging but that along with the light reflection going across the grass and phos's hair being animated with the wind makes a relatively normal and unimportant shot SO EMMERISING IMMEDIATELY
0:09 another sunglare transtition, it's so seemless and natural it's only now im noticing them
0:16 OOF the cut from a very saturated, polished shot to the completely colourless and sketchy shot is SO GOOD in how it matches with the voice change

1:34 i know this is rotoscoping but GOD IT WORKS HERE SO WELL, the uncanny smoothness of it and the cuts to tearing up the manga panels with antarc commenting on phos needing arms to match the legs even if that's not possible

2:11 the quick slide transition into a more consistent and tempo-having section of the song, is almost comforting with all the hard cuts and glitches and "Everywhere At The End Of Time" kinda style of music (also very cool crack effect on the screen at 2:13, and almost watercolour pigment shift into greyscale)
2:14 oh my god the reflection on the nail changing from baby phos with the saturated colours into moon phos with a glitch and sudden no colours, into the pixely image on a wall into mixed media headless gold figure. It feels progressively less and less phos and more vague scary and uncanny ideas and it's SO GOOD
2:23 oh my god the parallel to cinnabar at 0:41, both being people who lost faith in trying save themselves whilst the other is helpless to watch
