It is a smashing one of a kind guide for teaching children to read without the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my mate after a lifetime of fighting got great success with it.

    My highest point of speed reading (and this is after months of "training" at school) was around 480 words per minute. This was using a mandatory software that my highschool enforced. I averaged out at 320 for most of that year. Since then I've become a very slow, methodical reader. I estimate that I probably read somewhere around 120 today. Lol what a change.

  • @Ayokalyb
    @Ayokalyb Před 11 lety +4

    Comprehension is at about 95% to this day, which is just as good as my normal reading comprehension. I suggest reading out loud to yourself as fast as possible, to get your eyes used to moving at a steady pace over the words. After a few moments of doing that, you should have no problem not saying the words, whether it be out-loud or in your mind. That is the key, teaching yourself to comprehend the meaning of words at first glance. With practice, you will be comprehending whole sentences.

  • @Ayokalyb
    @Ayokalyb Před 11 lety +15

    Yeah, I went from reading at 300 words a minute to just under 1000 +/- 50. Thank the lord for internet piracy. I'm still having a bit of difficulty with philosophy, but scientific texts and classical literature is a breeze. ~20 pages in 10 minutes.

    @BallaholicNo10in89 Thanks for your comment. Good to hear you're reading more than 3 times faster than average.
    And you're absolutely about reading speed. It can definitely be increased, but over 2,000 words per minute is not very realistic (unless you have a natural gift for it). Here at Iris, we've found that most people top out a little above 1,000 wpm, but like anything else it takes some work.

    Nice job. You did a very good job of setting the expectations. I would say that most of my material is either very technical such as finance and accounting or very liberal arts such as religion and history. For the liberal items, I have alot of books that I want to read. This video did a good job of setting the expecation that any gains will not be finishing complex material in a couple of hours. I still plan to look at the other videos as some improvement still would be nice. Thanks in advance.

  • @Ayokalyb
    @Ayokalyb Před 11 lety +9

    I took an online reading exam and clocked myself at 400wpm, and after an hour of reading a couple of (downloaded) books, I just had this breakthrough moment and new what needed to be done. The same will happen for you. Truth be told, your comprehension rate will be about where it is when you're reading at a normal pace until you get a considerable amount of practice in, but a good way I've found of helping this process along is to keep detailed reading journals. Summarize, repeat.

    I am from Serbia, I studied history , and I've took speed reading course 5 years ago, I was the best in my class (25 people), and I can say this. It is useless if you are reading some history book on unknown subject, you want understand 15%, you won't remember any date, you won't remember any strange foreign name... I find it useful only for repeating, after I've read whole book 5 times. It is good for reading news or some unimportant stuff, but if you read something packed with data, forget it!

I can just hear the story as if its being told to me in a conversation, i know everyone has this and i also know that for speed reading you should suppres it but I am pretty thrilled to find that I am so high above these averages without training...imagine if I double that, that would be like max 1200 wpm, that is reading a small book for breakfast

    lol. Exactly the kind of comment you would expect to see on a "speed reading" video. That is, people that haven't realized that to gain intelligence and be smarter you have to actually put time and effort into understanding/comprehending the material you read. I can speed read very easily but I only comprehend like 50% or less. My recommendation, take your time and just work on comprehension skills. Nothing is even worth reading if you aren't taking in anything. ( :

    I can't see an area more than 3 characters across clearly so speed reading is impossible. Peripheral vision works in general but low resolution, I pass vision tests with standard glasses and have no other diagnosis apart from myopia. Techniques such as reading multiple words as a block is impossible. When reading a newspaper/magazine column, I still need to move my eyes horizontally for every line. Speed reading is possible for most but not all people.
