Welcome back to another Umbrella Academy Video. This video is going to cover Deigo Hargreeves, Aka Number 2, The Kraken. Feel free to check out our other Umbrella Academy videos, there should be a link somewhere on the screen right about now.

I still feel that naming him the Kraken doesn't fit. Ben should've been named the kraken instead due to him having tentacles.

I agree that Kraken doesn't fit with Diego but I think the Horror is a better name for Ben. Ben's abilities involve all kinds of eldritch creatures, not just the Kraken

I don’t know why but I liked Diego way more season 2 than season 1. It has got to be the hair
He’s just far more badass. His fight with Reginald. The bullet bending.
He also had a fairly bad attitude the first season, especially towards Vanya (like mocking her at Ben's funeral) but he's pretty wise and chill this season.
I thought he was suddenly really stupid in S2...
Diego's character is challenged and focused on far more in season 2 than season 1, at least to me. He's great and i'm glad they did.
We got to see more of diego character, showing his vulnerabilities.
In the comics, Diego and Vanya are way more interesting than Luther and Allison. There’s a lot of backstory there.

Diego probably does have his holding breath ability. Remember in season 2 when Luther farted in the elevator, Diego had a smirk on his face probably cause he could hold his breath through it and knew everyone else couldn’t

They said the actor couldn't stop laughing and they kept this one because it worked and was funny, but they could also have jumped on the occasion to make a little reference to his (lame af) powers in the comics. Other than that i don't recall any details that could indicate he also have his infinite breath hold ability
Thorp-ille Maybe in season 3 someone will try to drown him and he realizes he can hold his breath indefinitely

One of the few instances where a show actually takes the source material and elevates it. Ben Klaus Diego and even the others after season 2 are so much better characters than they are in the comics, even if they are significantly depowered.
I'm preety sure the numbers are inverse to their power:
Luther and Diego: the ones with the least powerfull powers
Vanya, 5 and Ben: The ones with the most powerfoul ones
is ben 6 aswell cos then that would make sense

The only thing with that is Rumor who is 3rd is definitely one of the strongest because her power warps reality with quite uncertain limitations besides having to speak.

I was confused by that. maybe he can change the trajectory of moving projectiles? A kind of momentum manipulation/specialized telekinesis? It's different from the comics I think.
You never noticed how many times he's been shot at but never shot?
seems he can change the trajectory of anything thrown as seen by the way the knives he throws just change direction mid flight. I wonder if its like telekinesis or magnetism based? the bullet deflection at the last episode was just him taking it to the next level. =D
@@Serrassi It's a power called *Vector Manipulation* The ability to control the direction of an object in motion. Another, more advanced, example of this power is with a character called Accelerator from an anime called A Certain Magical Index and it's spin-off A Certain Scientific Railgun. At one point Acellerator points a gun to his own head, pulls the trigger and changes the direction of the bullet so that it hits another character he's standing face-to-face with who is trying to use a hostage as a body shield.
I read that his power allows him to manipulate the air around him which lets him redirect and stop bullets and allows him to change the trajectory of knives when in flight

I think his power is more like controling the trajectory of things in motion/projectiles.
You could look at it as a lesser version of Telekinesis... but very specific.

it's not new. his power is called Vector Manipulation which allows him to control any flying projectiles, moving objects.

I wonder why the show didn't use the character codenames. Did they figure numbers and names and superhero identities would be too confusing?
Probably due to aesthetic tweaks to the characters. Like, Luther doesn't have the cyborg parts of the Martian Gorilla, and Diego doesn't dress like a pirate. "Portal Boy," and, "The Rumor," are a little redundant. "Séance" and "White Violin" may still be used eventually

For all of the morons saying Diego’s codename doesn’t describe / fit / suit him or whatever please just don’t. Here are a couple genuine reasons this name fits well
1. Previously mentioned in the video at the start, Diego has an adept affinity for holding his breathe under water for a long duration of time.
2. If you pause the video at 7:38 Diego’s character design is reminiscent of the typical sea pirate. Horizontal stripes, missing eye, dainty knife with BLOOD on it, ruffled hair, poor facial hair management, black and silver buckle belt, and the SKULL CROSSBONES EMBLEM ON HIS CHEST. Many ships went down during that Colonial time period, most would consider the Kraken was involved, a huge sea monster that lurked in the depths of the ocean. But, if something like that didn’t really exist, then what was bringing all of the ships down? Maybe it was a monster or maybe the real Kraken was a band of sea pirates, just like our boy Diego, a man who’s appearance just so happens to fit the description of a pirate
3. Many would consider a man with Diego’s anti hero methods as Monstrous, a category many people would consider the Kraken to fit inside.
4. The Horror is really too good of a name for Ben my other favourite character, and just like somebody has said in the comment section, Ben’s powers don’t just reside in tentacles that come from The Kraken beast

@@Shalashaska-x5x Dude like he said, His brother isn't limited to summoning krakens alone. Remember, Ben can summon "eldritch beingS" as in plural. Heck, he could summon a freaking fire breathing dragon or a creature with wings that can let hin fly, i don't know if any oyher eldritch being was used for ben un the comics as i haven't read them but yeah, he can summon other beings, not just a kraken.
I wish they would have stuck to the comic story a little more

Don't know if it was intentional but love how they gave Diego he's surfer dude haircut in season 2
It was definitely intended because he grew his hair out for season 2 but they had to cut it for the scene at the beginning of the first episode where they arrive, and he was wearing a wig the rest of the season.

I think its because some of there powers are different from the comics so some of there names would not make sense

Danny Perez in the comics he doesn’t even have Vector Manipulation, it just makes more sense to be able to control moving things rather than breathing underwater, because there has never been a single water mission in the show.

Latinos can be blonde. Or brunette. Or a ginger. Latino is neither a race or ethnicity; they can be white, black, native or Asian or more likely a combination of any of those.

I feel like number 2 was better in season 1 season 2 sucked so bad ill never watch the show again it is a lot quicker to watch when you fast forward through the garbage parts you can skip every part with vanya and sissy and not miss a thing

This character makes the least sense to me. He is extra in a bad way. I guess that’s needed for the group dynamic, but not my cup of tea, so to speak...
