UP paanwala's sales can't be compared to a West Bengal's paanwala.
Actually, in West Bengal, there are rarely any stand-alone paanwala, they sell cigarettes and gutka and paan masala as well, along with some candies.
But these informal sector should be taxed if they are makinh good income.

The main reason they are earning because unorganized businesses such as paan shops are taxed less or are exempted from certain taxes and due to rising population the simple food that they sell has a high demand
Good thing is they don't have to pay taxes.....earning in crores still paying 0 taxes.

So, from a business point of view. If doing small businesses like selling paan is profitable so shall we force students to get higher degrees? Not for all cases but there are students who are not doing better academically and most probably will not. So chances of them getting a good job are slim. In those cases shall parents take them off academics, stop spending so much money on their study and just help them start a business?

I have seen panwalas from my childhood in south india in my hometown he is very poor and the same. These are stories of only very few maybe 0.5 % who has juice centers , pav baaji etc etc beside their dabbas

India needs more paanwalla, chaiwalla, pakarowalla, puskawalla etc. Shutdown engineering colleges/ Coaching centres & start up vimal skill training institutes for gukta making & tabaccos specialists.
These odd jobs are better paying then the so called graduate. A skilled carpenter, plumber, Mason, equipment operator is more likely to get a job overseas than a graduate , not just overseas even in India. During my last vist to India in 2019 I was in conversation with a construction man who's job is to source the labor, and he mentioned on an average they are Paid rupees 800 a day multiply that by 20 working days and subtract their living cost , they still are working for lesser hours and are also saving more . But must admit the work is very hard and a youth man may find it hard to get girlfriends in doing such jobs . Now the choice is on the individual who picks up these jobs as a profession .. and these jobs are here to stay for a long time .
