The Sacred relic was brought to Sri Lanka by Princess Hemamala & Prince Dantha from the city of Kalinga in ancient India, during the reign of King Keerthi Sri Meghavarna
Just few weeks left for the biggest pageant,Kandy Esala Perahara which goes carrying the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha around the whole kandy city to bless the whole country for 2024. In August buddhists from all over the country are coming to kandy on that day to see it. So hundreds of dance groups and elephants will also participate in it. Some elephants carry 'Nilamewaru' who belongs to royal generations and the biggest and the most polite elephant called 'Kotte Raja' carries the sacred tooth of Buddha. After 'Nadungamuwe Raja' passed away,Kotte Raja became the most suitable one for that. ❤🙏🏽
TOOTH is NEVER taken out of the temple- just the case of the tooth. BUDDHA said everything is changing . DO GOOD ; NEVER HARM. What you do comes back to you (good or back). MIND IS EVERYTHING. N O GOD
When you speak of kandy there are so many things to see and so many things to do. Kandy lake, View point, Udawaththakele and Dunumadalawa wild life sanctuaries ( wild life, hiking, bird watching, nature trails, etc.), Hantana mountain range, Royal Botanical Garden in peradeniya, Agri Culture park in peradeniya, street food tours, traditional food in Gannoruwa, Peradeniya Univetsity, Kandian dancing shows, visiting local traditional art and craft villagers, ancient wood carvings in Ambekka, Ambuluwawa temple, Lankathilaka temple, ancient paintings in Hindagala and Gadaladeniya temples etc. Also the world famous Kandy Perahara Starts on 10 th August and goes on till 21 st.
