Have no clue why it's called Key West Intermezzo.
This song will always have a special place in my heart. A dear friend (who has passed) always loved me but was too afraid to tell me. Every time I’d go out with a guy, he tell me “but I saw you first”. For years, I just thought it was a running joke. I didn’t know how he really felt until right before he passed away at 26. Still breaks my heart. I’ll never hear this song and not think of him.
One of those songs that just makes you feel good ... lifts the spirits ... "nobody wants to be lonely, nobody wants to sing the blues" .... one of John's best, I think.

The greatness of JC is that everyone can identify with his lyrics. They are about things we all have dealt with, love, doubt, insecurity, etc. He has no ego in his music either, he could be our friend playing in a garage band we go to see in the bar on Friday.

And the included the other side of walls. Nobody within 50 feet. Second, I have a friend who worked at a Bass Pro Shop, and Mellencamp made a big stink about something, and wanted special treatment. Pulled the, "Do you know who I am?" card. Not well received. I love his music, saw him years ago with Dylan and Willie Nelson, great show. But that "Aww, shucks" Indiana boy thing is a persona, not the person.
This is one of my favorite Mellencamp videos. I remember seeing it on MTV(remember when MTV played MUSIC VIDEOS?)and going to Wal-mart the next day and buying the cassette single. "Key West Intermezzo" is one of his very best songs.
I would give the world to have a woman I love, just once, whisper in my ear: "Boy,...you are my star." I melt every time I hear that line in this song. Thanks John, for the lyric and for letting me imagine the impossibilities.

One of the most underrated songs of any genre. This is my favorite John Mellencamp tune ... and he has a lot of good ones! It's one of the few he's done that doesn't have that distinctive "American heartland" vibe to it ... but it's definitely an American classic.

Mr. Happy Go Lucky is one of the most underrated albums of all time. It is John Mellencamp's magnum opus, his creshendo, his crowning achievement. You really have to listen to the album from beginning to end to understand (at least to some degree) the message he was attempting to convey, and he did that with absolute success, even if no one knows it.

John is for the people I'm 32 and the first time I heard his music was when i was 14 and I haven't stoped listening in 2021. His songs speak and tell stories of life and growing up or falling i love or dealing with what the world like. God bless this guy.
Hear me out people, in 96 I was 15 knew nothing about love, I like the guitar and drums and his voice. I got older and got my heart broken I was like I get it's about not getting the girl. Now as a man approaching 40 I'm sure it's about Assassins. Him and Johnny killed the girl and buried her in the back yard. Johnny got the most money for the hit cause he poisoned her drink. The girl in Kentucky is a job Johnny did before they teamed up!!!
