- In this long overdue video we will take a look at Tamiya's venerable 1/35 M8 Greyhound scout car. In part 1 of this series we will focus on lower hull and painting and weathering the interior.

Great video. What was really useful for me was how you clearly went through how to enter, perform, and exit different parts of the painting and weathering. Some of these steps have been unclear to me. Im starting this kit tomorrow. Thanks again.

enjoyed this video. i mostly build model ships, but ive just made a start on a 1/35 scale willys jeep from tamiya. and found this video very useful

I just finished this model today, although the decals didn't work and will be getting replacements. I think they were old. It was my very first model. I made the mistake of painting the exterior too soon. This video is very helpful for me to help understand when I should be painting parts. My first model came out sort of messy but I'm very happy with it

Ah their not that bad lol Accents and local lexicon brings their own flavors, You'd be surprised by the amount of flak I take for my own accent and its quirks over the years

That turned out great Shane. I have too many things on the go to make videos right now as well. I hate the feeling as I don't like to let my subscribers down but sometimes life just gets in the way. Good to see you back at it, I'm hoping to get another video out soon as well. Cheers m8!
I know that feeling! It can be stressful when you have so many projects on the go and not knowing which one to film to share with our subscribers to enjoy alongside, I still feel bad for slowly down with the Panther as I know the lads are looking forward to seeing it come to life
great job on this interior! very well done! I have a 1/16th scale greyhound coming this spring and I'm looking forward to getting into it!
I'm considering getting the same kit too! It seems a little more manageable then a 1/16 M4!
The M8 is one of my very favourite Tamiya kits - I've built 4 of them! This is looking very nice - coming along really well.
I was going to recommend the Archer Decal set for the M8 which gives you all the markings for the turret basket, and also all the dashboard dials and stencils for the interior - it's a great set and reasonably priced, but you already weathered it!
Interior looks absolutely fantastic - looking forward to seeing what you do with it next. Great video, thanks for sharing.
I was actually looking at that very set, I was gonna pull the trigger on it, but I kind of wanted to build the interior pretty much out of the box without any added details such as wiring and I also have a crew for this M8 so a lot of the details would have ended being hidden once added

Hi Shane decided to build with you,got the one with additional figs etc.Same kit never the less
nice! I know the set your talking about, I believe the only difference is that newer set has Tamiya's new Tank Crew figures included which is a nice bonus. I currently filming the detailing of the turret exterior at the moment so hopefully I should have the next video up in the next week or so

Yeah, I was thinking maybe grind some of them up to get different sizes of crud. That's what I see in the real world, but I'm not building this model, am I?

Love the video...I just purchased the same kit so the info is great....one thing that i notice on many videos is the fact that many people spend extra money on after market accessories ( such as the gun barrel ) only to paint it the same as the model color...WHY
why leave the barrel unpainted ?

I am starting this kit now. It is only my 3rd kit since coming back to model building since childhood. So i noticed circles on the main hull from the mold during the manufacturing process. I don't know if there is a name for them. Anyways a few of them are in areas I am concerned about them being seen and some in hard to reach areas. Are these marks normally covered by paint or do I need to spend the time and effort to try and cover them? There some in the drivers compartment around the feet and what will be the storage bins.
Thanks for this video series. Using these videos as my blueprint. Going to try and add some photo etch to the model also.
So those circles in the plastic are call pin marks or pin extraction marks. Its a biproduct of the molding process the spures are punched out the mold by minds which leaves those shallow circles in the plastic.
Best way to tackle them is by filling with putty, however you can save time by dry fitting your components and filling and sanding only the ones that will be visible.
It can be a bit of tedious process to fill them, but it is worth the effort.

Ah Jaysus Shane, you make it look too easy. Terrific build for part 1. My air brush was spitting like a Belfast Docker and ruined my JU88 build that I had spent fekin hours on. While I’m in the mood, when I mask and put on aluminium paint which results in, what I can best describe as a fine powder on the underbelly of a BF109, what do I’d do? Should I coat it in a Matt/gloss varnish? Am at a modelling standstill. ☹️
sorry for the late reply. Firstly what brand was the aluminum shade you were spraying? Also what were you using to thin it? As that may hold the key. As for repair work, you can depending on how thick you applied you can either lock in the old coat with varnish and paint on top of, or give it a thin coat of primer. Stripping the paint all the together would be strong idea, but you could get away with just painting on top of it again.
But the big thing to sort out before going any further is finding what's making your paint behave that way in the first place. So any info you can give me regarding the paint brand, the thinner used and your airbrush setup may help us figure out what is going wrong :)
@@longlance67 Hi Shane The JU88 is now binned. 😒 The BF109 was sprayed with Mr Metal Aluminium 218. 50/50 with Tamiya Thinner. It is a powdery finish that comes off on your finger if you touch it. I haven’t used it before so that might be how it is. Should I spray a coat of varnish over the top? Cheers. Paul
Also meant to add airbrush sorted and working a treat thanks to a knowledgeable friend of mine.
My god man. Making your own panel liner. Are you living in poverty. Next thing will be making your own pigments from pastels. Seriously though, the fact that modellers buy panel liner as a product amazes me when a tube of oil paints will last me years. Great video as usual. Might inspire me to start my Greyhound.
Can't beat a few tubes of artists! You can do so much with them and just as you said they last for years. I have a few premade panel liners in my toolbox but never like using them over oils.
Would totally recommend building the M8 its a lovely kit, I just finished building and detailing the turret on my mine and you can get a lot out of it
I didn't see a list of upgrades. I'd like to get them for my M8 build.
I must have forgotten to post them. So the workable steering is from Resicast. The wheels with chains are from Royal Model. One the upper hull that we covered in the next episode, I added a metal barrel from RB model. An askua models .50cal from my spares bin. And resin tie loops from Tiger Model Design. Hope this helps

nice video. I'm thinking of starting to switch to metal barrel. do you have any problem with the weight difference?
it depends on the barrel as some are heavier than others, so you might find it causes the gun to depress due to the weight so sometimes you need to glue to the gun mantlet in place to get the gun elevation you want first
Have you decided what version and unit to model ? You know some m8's including some exotic conversions of these were used against( Irish) UN troops in the Congo by Katanga Gendamerie. Just saying ....😉
So my M8 will be inspired by the 14th Cavalry Group in the Ardennes. Aye there were some very interesting M8s used in the Congo by both sides I wonder if my Grandfather and Granduncle encountered any out there when they were out there

no not yet, need to start the weathering process for the panther yet
Since the M20 kit also shares sprues with the M8 minus the turret parts and the roof you can also harvest the 37mm rounds out of the M20 kit as well.
good idea! The ammo loadout is a bit sparse as is with the M8
@@longlance67 I think what is in the turret is what is supposed to be there . But I think that locker on the right side of the lower hull wall is the ammo stowage bin for the 37mm gun. Looks deep enough for it.

What was the point of the resin linkage ? Seems unnecessary.
personal preference, if you can want the steering to no workable then it is, in my case I wanted it to be poseable so it was necessary for what I wanted
