    Hey there folks. I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response to this video. It's been great reading everyone's comments over the past day, and I'm really encouraged by the fact that folks seem to like it! That said, I did want to add a quick correction.
    At 13:12, I mistakenly implied that the Famicom Disk System connects to the expansion port on the back. Instead, I should have said that the port is used for Famicom accessories like controllers, keyboards, etc. I also incorrectly referenced this around the 18:00 mark.
    Special thanks goes to Jason Sikes, xj1ggy, and Elrinth for the catch!

    Great job on this video, I can tell you did your homework and your passionate about Analogue, I'm a subscriber now! I'm a huge fan of Analogue too, and here are 3 things to comment about your video:
    1.) There were actually four (4) different release dates for the Noir, you missed the second one (and the 4th obviously because this video came out before that last run). But that's because the 2nd window wasn't announced by Analogue, you had to have been just looking at their Store page on their website and notice that the Noir was available for pre-order again. That's what someone did in the Analogue FB group and then they let everyone know about it, that's how I know the event existed, I even made a purchase at that event:
    Nt mini Noir 1st window (Pre-Order) opens 2020_0228
    Nt mini Noir 2nd window (Pre-Order) opens 2020_0421
    Nt mini Noir 3rd window (Pre-Order) opens 2020_0811
    Nt mini Noir 4th window (Order) opens 2021_0409
    2.) You got the wrong pictures of the 24k Gold Analogue Nt. You show just the gold colored Nt, which wasn't the actual gold plated version that was super limited (I think just 10 units, $5,000 each!). Here are some links you can see pictures of the correct, rare gold plated Nt:
    christophertaber.com/photography/retro-receiver-for-snes/
    www.dropbox.com/sh/t0q2ugrc9z3ee1r/AAADZUGmixFPLcxCR91Gt35ia/5-Past%20Announcements/11-24k%20Gold%20NES?dl=0&subfolder_nav_tracking=1
    Fyi, there's been a guy on eBay trying to sell one for the last year or 2 for like 100K plus Lol, so funny!
    3.) Lastly, Analogue was not always so private about the moves they make. If you scroll through and look at their very old/original FB page posts, they would tell their community about re-stocks and when things would go into production, they were a lot more open to the public back then. It was only when they started to get popular and their products very sought after that they decided they would not update the community as much. I agree, it's super annoying that they don't update us fans that much. I feel like they would grow even more if they would just be a little more transparent and let us know what's going on, especially after we give them money for a pre-order.

    • @BittyKongsQuest
      @BittyKongsQuest  Před 3 lety +1

      Absolutely. I really feel like if they just improved their customer relations, then that would solve a LOT of people's issues with them.
      And thanks so much for the corrections - they're always welcome as I'm bound to miss a few details when I make these. I'll put your note about the gold Noir in the pinned comment and credit you. 😁

    I like your description of "Who is the NT mini for?" saying "someone who enjoys the physical experience of popping in a cartridge" instead of one I heard in another video of "someone who owns a bunch of original carts". Some people may own carts but just to own them with no intention of actually using them.
    As a NT Mini owner, that is one aspect I personally enjoy. It makes the nostalgia feel even more authentic. While the MiSTer is not a bad system by any standards, I like being able to physically enjoy my collection rather than have it just for looks. For me, that's what my posters are for! And while yes, I too could get an AVS, the NT offers even better quality video resolution the AVS only supports 720p vs NT's 1080p.

    Good job on the video 👍 A lot of great things on here and presentation was excellent. You used one of my tweets in your video haha The company’s reputation has def taken a hit as of late. It’s a shame because their customer service used to be great. They were very responsive. I think starting out as a small operation they just got overwhelmed with demand and struggled to adjust. Thanks so much for the kind words! I love covering Analog stuff - they're such an interesting mix because they get the products right for the most part, but their habit of shooting themselves in the foot with their fans is fascinating. I totally agree though - I think they mean well, but their successes outpace their ability to deal with them. And that's awesome that your tweet ended up in the video - thanks for contributing! 😄
      I'm glad you liked it, and the Pocket video is coming! I've already scripted it - I'm just waiting on my own pocket to arrive (hopefully) later this Fall and then I can dive into the technical side. Really looking forward to telling that story!

    If you want those artifacts in your Everdrive menu to go away enable the 3.6v Cartridge IO setting in the Noir menu. On the original Nt Mini this wasn't an option and the console always did the 3.6v. It confused the heck out of me why I was only getting the artifacts on my Noir until I found that setting.
    You could also upgrade to a later revision N8 or N8 Pro. As far as I know it's just older revisions of the N8 that cause problems.

    I really appreciate how you summed up the whole Mister vs FPGA console argument you worded it perfectly. So far I'm loving my Noir with the jailbreak, once you have those FireBrand X OCD settings it's pretty spectacular. Al though to be fair I am missing some of the AVS features though. Specifically the built in game genie codes (pre loaded list you can toggle on when you insert a cartridge) and the turbo button function which allows you to enable turbo per button on P1 or P2 (and even toggle the strength of the turbo). The N30 2.4G controller has physical turbo buttons which makes it borderline useless for games you want turbo only on one button. Minor knitpicks but still very nice features to have, plus for $200 it's pretty solid bang for your buck.
    I do love Analogue though I own the NT Mini Noir, Super NT and Mega SG and it's reignited my passion for retro games. I'm so stoked for the Pocket and Duo as well, the Pocket in particular is going to be something majorly special with two FPGA chips and so many supported systems!

    • @timtim2949
      @timtim2949 Před 2 lety +1

      @@AlexanderShelestov
      I think it depends on what you’re going for. An original Famicom + CRT is as close to genuine an experience you can get.
      The NT Mini Noir gives you the ability to play both on CRT and modern displays with the most accurate performance possible. If you have a good sound system like I do, the clean audio is truly amazing: bit tunes from NES have never sounded so clean.
      I have to admit that I already found the original $500 quite steep, especially compared to the Super NT at less than $200. I doubt I would have bought it for $1000.
      That said, I think it’s an amazing piece of engineering and it’s definitely worth the price if you’re a big fan of NES and Famicom, which I admittedly am not. I decided to buy it after my experience with the Mega SG: that machine proved to me that Analogue’s products are worth getting, and I have since gotten the Super NT and NT Mini, and preordered the Pocket.
      My advice depends on your scenario:
      - If you think it’s worth the asking price or you find a good deal, get the NT Mini. IF you value picture and audio quality, it’s the best NES/Famicom you will ever buy.
      - If you just want to have a similar FPGA experience on modern displays, get the RetroUSB AVS, which does 80% of the same things for a fraction of the price.
      - If you want the true experience with a CRT, you can opt for an NT Mini and a DAC from Analogue for the more high-end version of that experience. If you don’t care about high-end on a CRT, you go for original hardware.
      Just know that those NES and Famicom systems are getting old and when they start to die out, NT Mini and AVS prices will skyrocket. Hopefully Analogue will produce a cheaper model before that happens. If you want to play your NES/Famicom games for decades to come without emulation or with a CRT, definitely go for the NT Mini + Analogue DAC.
      Hopefully this helps you choose.

    You mentioned the analogue feel but I personally feel the aluminium housing does not do anything to add to the product but I like the technological features of the console.
    When it comes to price I chose an original Nintendo on a CRT or MISTer console on a CRT / Modern Display and still save money compared to this product.
    I refuse to purchase one due to their limited run practices that encourage scalpers.
    I hope other companies come to offer a better service and competition for that sector of the market

      You're definitely right that they need to up their game in the customer service department. I knew they weren't great about it with the Noir release, but when I was researching for this video I realized that they've NEVER been good at that end of things. It's kind of amazing to me how popular they are with the kind of customer relations they've had.
      And I totally agree about the regular NES or MiSTer on a CRT being more cost-effective. The Nt Mini is a luxury product and complete overkill for most people for sure. 😅

    13:10 That's not for the Famicom Disk System. It's for extra Famicom controllers, like the gun, the keyboard, turbo controllers, etc. The Famicom Disk System RAM adapter just plugs directly into a Famicom's cartridge slot.

    Nice work! I appreciate that you mentioned the COPYNES Mini feature for backing up your own personal saves from carts (very cool)! However, do you know how to get those .sav files to actually play off the SD card on the Nt Mini? I can get them to associate in emulators, but when I played the copied game on the NT itself, it seems to start fresh (even though the .sav file is right there in the SAVES folder. Thanks!

    I realize I’m in the minority but I have no problem with “manufactured scarcity”- Analogue are creating value for themselves, and trading theoretical sales to do this. These products are pure luxury after all and if there’s no motivation to buy right away, one can wait forever. Just ask RetroUSB, a company with an FPGA NES that’s awesome, always available and cheaper. I bet they haven’t sold half as many consoles.

      Well, I own a Super NT, Mega SG, and NT Mini Noir, so clearly I am a fan of Analogue's products, but my loyalty to the company is on a knife-edge. The Pocket pre-order was a joke, but not a funny one. Sold out within minutes! I wanted to give them my money the same day, but I was at work and unable to check the web page at that precise moment. If I miss out on their next product that I want, even though I tried to buy right away, I'll just go full MiSTer.

    • @Galgomite
      @Galgomite Před 3 lety

      @@brianstuntman4368 First of all MiSTer is wonderful for anyone with the slightest bit of tech know-how. I'm considering downscaling my setup right now and it's hard to imagine using anything other than the MiSTer given the consoles it covers. Regarding the Pocket situation, I think Analogue wants to sort of privatize the MiSTer concept, and the Pocket is their play. That means there will end up being another pre-order in the Spring or Summer, and anyone willing to pay for one will be able to get it.

    I really like the hardware they make but I hate their policy of limited production runs. Just feels like they're intentionally underproducing to limit supply to create hype and social media buzz. Really turns me off to the company generally since this strategy directly feeds scalpers.

    My first suggestion for future content is to try to keep yourself off screen. All of the other shots are really high quality, even the animated intro with the self-insert character, but the switch to you in your game room is a bit jarring. You talk with you hands, which is quite normal, but doesn’t always translate well to videos.

  • @theresatwinkleinmybrainnow696

    1. That's not the most expensive N.E.S. Heck it's not even an N.E.S John.
    That's a fancy hardware emulator that happens to be expensive.
    2. If FPGA recreates the original chipsets people wouldn't of had issues with Everdrives working on the 2nd Firmware yea?
    or any issues at all right? I mean because the original chipsets don't present these issues.
    3. If FPGA has issues that the original chipsets don't, well that means FPGA is a lie as far as recreating the original chipset.
