    Challenge concept: Simsie makes a little house the way she likes it, uses her favorite swatch for every item she wants, makes it nice and cohesive. Then when it’s finished, chaos mode kicks in. For every item, she must then go in and change the swatch either to her least favorite or to a randomized number swatch. Let the crazy colors and weird combinations unfold! There could be a before/after tour, or the whole thing could be built duplex style, with the two versions existing side-by-side. Enjoy!

    I love the chaos that unravels when people start talking where they have laundry 😂 I live in Poland, I've seen washing machines in bathrooms, kitchens, corridors, garages, but I think having it in bathroom is the most popular and least annoying. And dryers are just starting to be more accessible in last few years, before that they were so expensive. My mum bought the combined washer-dryer last year and I envy her so much, warm towels are next level and they get so fluffy.

Supposedly more convenient but at the time I enjoyed using my family's standalone dryer to get my teddy bears warm and fluffy so I was like "this thing is a dumb convenience gadget marketed at middle class folks who live above their means in fancy cookie cutter suburbs, and unlike a lot of stuff other families have that I'm jealous of, I'm glad my family doesn't have this."

    I live in Eastern Europe! Indeed, many people may have a washing machine in the kitchen, especially in old apartments where there is very little space. It's funny when someone is preparing dinner and you need to get clean clothes out of the washing machine. We also had to hang wet laundry on lines stretched in the middle of the rooms, because we didn’t have a balcony or other place. I lived like this for 26 years before I moved into my own house. (by the way, I only learned about dryers a few years ago...)

    • @blaireshoe8738
      @blaireshoe8738 Před 9 měsíci +3

      I forget that some people who do have washers DON'T have dryers! In my mind they are a package deal, does not compute that there can be one without the other right next to it. Not that the dryer is a requirement to use, I know plenty of people who genuinely prefer the smell of fresh air from line-drying, or want to save electricity, or their dryer came with the house (ie super old, possibly broken) and they just rather avoid it than find ways to make it work better or remove/replace it. I've just never seen one without the other beside/above, except the very rare occasion that I've seen a combo unit. Kinda wild to learn that someone has grown up thinking so incredibly differently to me, I love hearing about what others think of as normal, it's so cool how varied everyone's opinions on something as "simple" as laundry can be!

    • @katanah3195
      @katanah3195 Před 9 měsíci

      @@blaireshoe8738Honestly, as Kayla said in the video I'd rather have a dryer than a washer in a small space because clotheslines take up a lot of space. But yeah, for saving labour it's definitely preferable to have a washer, if you can't have both, so I see why having just a dryer would be even more uncommon than just a washer.

    To be fair, a lot of those extensions are actually just conservatories, so they barely have any use except for a space to sit in. Every one of them basically looks the same and they're incredibly impractical because you're supposed to have it as a sort of sitting space, but in winter they're freezing cold and in summer they're obnoxiously hot because they're small spaces with glass for every outside surface. They look like a modern extension, but they're really not all that fancy or useful 😂

    In Italy, you never find a washer in the kitchen and rarely find a drier. The standard here is the washer placed in the bathroom or in a utility room. Driers have begun to appear in italian houses just a few years ago and are considered a sort of luxury since you have to have space to be able to accomodate one and the most usual household here lives in an apartment, not in an independent house. I personally never saw a washer/drier combo although I'm sure you can find them here, it's just something unusual just like the drier. Wet clothes get hung in the bathroom or on the balcony (when you have one), those are our usual "driers"

    In France it’s very usual to have the washer in the kitchen if the bathroom is small. Or if your place is very small like a studio you don’t have one and you have to go to a lundry place (lavomatic)

    Haha yeah I have my washing machine in the kitchen (from the UK here) and hang up clothes on an airer. I wish I had a dryer but the flat we're renting doesn't have one. My mum has a washer and dryer but they are separate like in the Sims, we call a dryer a tumble dryer here lol. Our fancier houses have a utility room for the washing machine my mother in law had that at her old house and again at her new one lol. It was an old style house that was renovated too! 😊
    On my old hometown main road there were so many Tudor houses like this I wanted to live in, I just love beams on the ceiling lol!
    Lol I play with laundry in some Sims families, not all, just to mix it up! 😊
    Oo I do love this house! 😍 I may have to nab and put in Windenburg, may move one or both of the Bergsten sisters in to it lol, I think their parents have passed on now in my main save lol

    I'm German and have never in my life seen laundry in the kitchen! This is so interesting to me. Is it a British thing maybe?

    • @katbairwell
      @katbairwell Před 9 měsíci +3

      Pretty common in the UK yeah, or in an outbuilding if you have one with power (more common in modern new-build estates) It's a lot to do with the small footprint of our houses, so your washing machine ends up anywhere it has access to power, and plumbing. A schoolfriend of mine had theirs in the bathroom, the hoses connected to the sink taps, and the power cord had to run out into the hallway (we're not allowed standard outlets in our bathrooms, we can't be trusted not to burn everything down - which seems more than fair). Rather than take the hoses on and off the taps, they washed their hands over the bath. Brilliant family, mad as a box of fogs, but good kind people.

      Yes in the UK it is very normal to have the washing machine in the kitchen. If you have more money, you might have a utility room where the washing machine is.

    I have seen laundry in the kitchen in the US (Iowa, specifically), but it's usually only in houses that were built or last updated in the 1950's or so. It's especially common in houses built in the early 1900's or older, that were updated around the 50's, the plumbing hookups were already in the kitchen or were added to the kitchen, so the washer was added there. From around the 60's/70's onward, we started putting the laundry in the basement, and then in the late 2000's/early 2010's, we started including a separate room or closet for laundry, so that's really only a new build/fresh renovation thing around here.

    🖐 American with laundry in their kitchen here- was like that at my old house growing up, too. I didn't realize it was that uncommon. Granted, the houses I've lived in were built in the 50s, so I'm sure when washers & dryers started becoming a more common appliance, it just made sense to put them where you had space.

    That bit about not needing to fence in your garden - true for Sims 4, but in 3 with Supernatural you did have to fence off the garden or else *zombies* would eat your plants on the full moon.
    Took me a while to break that habit playing 4.
