On documentary-style work where many moments can't be re-enacted, zoom lenses can mean the difference between getting a shot that's amazing, verses on that's unusable. For years, I've reached for my trusty Canon or Sigma photo zoom lenses, but I'm super stoked to finally have some legit cinema zoom lenses in our kit!
These new lenses from Laowa are amazing!

Controlled focus breathing
Nice flare

Definitely worth it based on what I’m seeing here! As a solo op this would’ve helped me a lot at a recent conference shoot - but I have a soft spot for my Tokina primes. I can definitely see this in the future though.

Did you consider the dzo catta aces when purchasing your cine kit?
Can you use a speedbooster to adapter this lens?
Nope. We've tried using rear NDs with this set, and they won't work. the rear portion of the lens protrudes too much. My only gripe about these lenses.
@@BradWatanabe That's too bad. DZO Catta doesn't have this issue but I don't like its range.
@@BradWatanabe really? The Rangers that I saw at a demo last year could fit the canon 0.71x speedbooster, as well as the Meike rear VND - these was with the Ranger’s EF mount. Looks like your rear ND is Revolva/PL? So perhaps the PL mount protrudes?
What lens do you supplement these out with when you need something wider that still matches up visually?
We're able to do pretty well matching these with some of our Sigma Art glass. Sigma is going to be a little more contrasty, but that's pretty resolvable in post. Mahalo!
ptryy much competing againts the Fujinon MK line excpet that one is based on super 35mm :|
I've never actually gotten my hands on the Fujinon lenses, but I do see the similarities. It's just amazing how compact Laowa was able to get these FF lenses.
