She fails to mention that not just anyone can shop Restaurant Depot or Jetro. Membership is free, but it requires you to have a business license.
Exactly
Getting a business license isn't that expensive, although getting one just to shop there would be kind of silly.
You can get a day pass. Every time you go there.
Was just about to add that. I have two different ones near me, and yes you need to show them a current business license.
@@sunflowerbeauty2I heard they don't do that anymore.
I’m 100% certain that Costco has ZERO fear of this place…🤷🏻♂️
honestly it about the same place it just have more stuff that a restaurant would need than costco. the amount of butter we use in a day for our small bakery alone would be a lot on a really slow day we use about 50+ pounds plus all the other restaurant around use too costco doesn't have enough butter.
Different customer bases, and Costco also have business centers which carry merchandise similar to Restaurant Depot.
FACTS 😂😂😂
Yea they aint, they are a world wide multi billion company…but you know what worked that crappy clickbait title that got is pushing the algo
Where the butter is sitting in room temperature is that normal that scares me if the butter is able to sit in room temperature and not turn bad
That was 100% more than 1 gallon of icecream.
Yeah that was a 5 gallon bucket
@EdwardM919 a someone who carries around 5 gallon buckets regularly, that's 2 or MAYBE 3 gallons
Yeah they’re usually 3 gallons
Even better deal than she expected
I got 3 gallons of thrifty rainbow sorbet from there for $20
Considering it’s a few dollars for a couple scoops, that was an incredible deal
Restaurant size ice cream tubs are 3 gallons, that’s what she showed in the video
3 gallon is standard restaurant size
Just bought 1 pound blocks of butter at Costco…$3.48 each 😅
Update: For those asking in the comments, I live in Arizona.
Also,
I totally agree that it depends where you live, I will have to check Restaurant Depot’s prices here to see if they are similar to my Costco. She simply asked if Costco was comparable and I think it is, but don’t quote me on that! 😂
where? everytime i go i get a 2lb for 11 dollars
REKT
Even Sam's Club is cheaper...
4 pounds for 14.49 in Seattle ... 3.62/lb.
...justified!
Forgot to mention that restaurant depot you need to have a food related business to be eligible to get a meme membership …. I went once in New York when I worked at a restaurant… and planned to get a membership and wasn’t able to get one because they ask for your business details …
I got a membership due to my husband's home improvement business. Before that, I got day passes from the front desk. Day passes are free.
You can also get one if you're associated with a non profit. Or at least that used to be the case. I haven't been there in a while.
Since COVID they have allowed Non businesses to shop at their warehouse. I don't know if this is nationwide; but the clerk in one of the stores in NJ told me this sometime last year.
Just ask for a 1 day pass
You just need an EIN and maybe a resale certificate, depending on the jurisdiction.
Restaurant Depot: how do you like these apples?
Costco :laughs in Membership:
“We had to go at around 7 am, so we’re really tired and we didn’t film much” is all I needed to hear
My Costco sells the 4 pack of butter for $11 which breaks down to $2.75 per pound.
I stock up on butter when it goes on sale for 2$ a pound
but is it real butter?
@@jamie68560well they said butter. So I’m assuming they meant butter.
@@dungeonsanddragonsanddrive2902 a lot of products call themselves butter but are not actual butter. They're usually marketed as butter spread, butter blend, dairy spread
@@jamie68560I did a quick google search and it seems it’s real butter. I also learned there’s higher water to fat content in American butter than in European butter.
You have to have a business . So Costco is still good for regular people .
I still see lots of vending machine people buy bulk in lots of snacks at Costco. Seen it since I was a kid 20+ years ago.
Costco is way better than RD. Costco allows any member to buy anything in the store/online/gas, instead of limiting the member to only one aspect of the store. Not to mention all of the other perks and serviced Costco offers.
How bout aliens?
Yup...costco has a business costco and anyone with a membership can go. Don't need to have a business card.
I work at Costco is southern Oregon and we are doing 1.4 million a day. I don’t think we have anything to fear.
Thats pretty crazy lol i bet the manager is paid well
At certain parts of the US, there is actually. Business Costco that does exactly this serves larger items and business supplies etc
Our Costco Business is located in Hackensack, NJ and it beats Restaurant Depot every day! Plus the cleanliness at Costo makes RD look filthy to me.
Yes! I love my Costco Business Center here in Dallas
Yup I was about to say the same, I have a business Costco
Cause costco business center comp shops restaurant depot and jetro, I work for costco business centers and there's literally a person who's only job is to comp shop stores
Bought a 40lbs box of chicken breasts at my business center in the twin cities.
A lot of stuff isn't really cheaper. Its more for like teeny tiny restaurants or if you just need enough for 1 day. Basically its like a worse version of Sam's club because they have very few locations (meaning its quite far).
The only things worth buying is basically the shrimp, and scallops. Sometimes the 30lb cream cheese... but that usually expires within the month.
The red snapper is great there. You can get a bunch of whole ones in a box for relatively cheap.
@@sebchan21 not really? Red snapper at the Asian supermarket in new York was the same price...at least from what I remember.
I wouldn't recommend home cooks to buy it as you still need to clean the fish, but I guess it's an ok price.
I get bacon and pepperoni there for a great price. But only when they are on sale. I agree with you, the shrimp is the best thing there for me.
Wait till you go to a costco business center. They comp shop restaurant depot/jetro and beat their prices.
Their bulk mint is much cheaper and higher quality than anywhere I’ve found
Costco Business Centers are the Costco of Restaurants... Restaurant Depot is a bit more expensive, but it's mainly for convenience as a cash and carry for small restaurants.
this is a great advert for costco
I doubt Costco is quivering. Restaurant Depot, unless they’ve changed, doesn’t allow the public to shop there.
Also, other than a few items you mentioned the case sizes are much larger than Costco and not realistic to what a family would want.
You can get a 1 day pass at Jetro which I think is is same as Restaurant Depot, you just cant return/refund items
@@qick07 jetro is extremly rare. there is what 6 locations and most of them still require a business license.
That's not 1 gallon ice cream. It looks like a 3 gallon.
Unless it's 5 gallon, its more expensive than Walmart and Walmart ice cream is actually pretty good
At least 5 gallon
They are 3 gallon. That is the standard restaurant size in the US to fit into ice cream cabinets
@@eliyangno they don’t. 5 gallon buckets are the big Home Depot buckets. That’s 3.
She's slow
Note: you need to be a business owner with your tax number and such to get your membership. We were lucky to get to keep ours ever since we quit restaurant business. But we shop often at Costco coz RD don't really carry brands we buy. And I always felt I will get run over by their forklift everytime I'm there.
Restaurant Depot barely started taking credit cards in the last few years and make all their money off sales, while Costco makes all their money off membership fees. Two different worlds.
Costco limits their markup to about 20%, so they do make a lot of money from membership fees. IMO the membership is worth the price, just on the fact that it keeps the riff raff out (bum asking for money, sitting in the parking lot, etc.)
i guess you have never been to a Costco business center great value.
😂😂😂
Doesn't every store sell 1lb blocks of butter for around 4 dollars.. That's what I get from my local grocery stores.
Yeah, that's what it is at Walmart when I see it.
i can get 2lbs for $5 at walmart 🤷 girl has lost her mind
Our 1lb of butter, real butter, goes for about $8. It used to be about $4 a year or two ago.
@@misseselise3864 two pounds of butter for $5? I haven't seen butter priced that low in about 4 years.
Costco ain't worried about any competition. There is none.
True!
It depends where you are, I hear good things about BJs if you've got one in the area, although, I'm not sure that Sam's Club is really much competition.
@@SmallSpoonBrigadeI have belonged to Costco for 30 years. Just joined bjs because they had a $20 membership deal. Yes they may have more food selection than Costco, but their hard goods are a joke. I won’t be renewing the bjs membership. The quality of the food that Costco offers is also better. Bjs stocks a lot of processed crap.
Is Costco really that much better than Sam’s? 🤔
Nah, Costco has no competition, and Costco also has the Costco Business Center.
From the Yelp reviews of Restaurant Depot, Costco has nothing to fear. This store has very long lines to checkout, no customer service, and stressed out employees.
If that's the price of 1# of butter, than Costco is better, as is Aldi and Kroger and Walmart.
It's cheaper because it's wholesale. You have to have a resale license (a business) to purchase there.
It's not cheaper though
25$ for a gallon of ice cream is actually a lot 😂
I think she showed a 5 gallon, which is still alot
i was also confused by her enthusiasm
I want to be able to by a block of butter, OLED Tv, and socks all at the same time 😂 *Costco’s Marketing Strategy*
In Canada we get default 1lb butter....no sticks of butter for us
We have sticks of butter here in Ontario, Canada. Have had it forever
@@kcin4997 also in Ontario, while yes we do have the individual sticks, the 1lb block is for sure the predominant way in which most brands sell their butter. As for this $$ walmart has "Gaylea" brand on sale right now for $4.98/lb, regular price is $7.98, and other "higher quality" brands are around $9.28/ lbs
Your stick of butter is just bigger lol
I've seen sticks of butter at co-op
Take that metric system users
This looks a lot like the business Costco that serves restaurants here in Vegas. And the prices appear to be similar. It is ridiculously popular because even "normal" people can go in and shop they also have large cuts of meats that are way cheaper than anything in the grocery store.
Where's the business Costco? I'm also in vegas
Costco $3.00 pound for butter.
All i know is Restaurant Depot ain't selling gas ¢50 cheaper than anyone else in town 😂
Just wondering where you're from that uses "cents", but puts the symbol before the number.
I used to go here before school with my dad when he was a kitchen manager, buy so much sauces or ingredients to make our own sauces, she didn’t mention but you could also buy silverware, kitchen utensils, soda cups, that syrup that soda machines use, at some point they just started selling the soda machines you’d see
Costco Business Center is Basically the Same Thing
I worked at restaurant depot and they suck...
I’m own a deli and I shop at Sam’s Club and Restaurant Depot and can 1000% say for certain that nobody fears RD. Especially with their out-of-date registers at checkout.
I've been going there since 2004, and believe me, stuff is never cheaper at Jetro/restaurant depot.
“restaurant depot is a fun place to shop and i look forward to being there again soon”- absolutely no one ever
Yeah, Costco is like… who?
That’s about the same price as butter at the grocery store. Store brand is actually cheaper.
And Costco doesn’t care about this place. Most people can’t even shop here. You have to own a restaurant. Costco will always have more business. Which is why they can afford to treat their employees so well.
Hey, there are Costco stores and Costco Business Center stores. The Costco Business stores are...🥁... stocked for larger business needs.
I saw a half goat hanging up, tons of restaurant equipment, tons of candy and stuff you find in little convenience stores in office buildings, etc.
The Costco Business Center:
"Costco's Business Centers offer a range of products - often in larger quantities - not usually found in a typical Costco. Among these products, Costco Business Center customers can expect to find office supplies, food-service equipment and resale-ready goods."
But, of course, Restaurant Depot is solely geared towards restaurants, which offers benefits as well.
They are too expensive. $25 for a gallon of ice cream is crazy! Costco is a better deal. I’m in Wisconsin and they sell blocks of butter here at every grocery store.
Butter is the worst thing to compare in price for some reason restaurant depot has it overpriced like more than Aldi. You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Restaurant depot only has certain niches over Costco… soda, chips, candies, are generally slightly more expensive or same as Costco, and it requires a business license for membership, but membership is free though… anyways, many little details… how I know? I got memberships at both and more lol.
this is how my local grocery is set up. they are basically the asian restaurant depot for all the asian restaurants and tea shops where I live BUT anyone who is local knows its the BEST place to get groceries. crazy low prices on meats and produce and the priority placement on the shelves is for GOOD products not promoted ones.(not gonna find Kraft etc)
however, with the exception of meats, prices are a rarely posted and many labels aren't in english... so u kinda just gotta learn by buying and trying 😅
Restaurant depot sucks and I hate going there.
Seriously. The employees hate being there. The restaurant people hate going there.
Don’t go then?
@@greglinski2208 sometimes it’s a necessity.
@@greglinski2208 costco and sams club dont have enough for a restaurant. during the holidays we get blacklisted because restaurant depot sold out so we went to every costco around us and bought all their butter and eggs lol lucky they just make you buy a new membership.
The fact that all these wholesalers copy Costco’s business model says a lot. It’s safe to say that Costco is not “quivering” from the existence of Restaurant Depot.
Preach..😅
Restaurant Depot is for restaurant owners only.
Cash & Carry in WA has business specific products and is usually priced as well as Costco
Shophocho needs to go there to see if its justified
@jaydenleckpa8381 you can get a day pass or go with someone who has a business
I'd love to see that 😂.
Costco Business Center is this and more
i wont say more it about the same i do like the business center but they don't have enough locations
I get butter at my local grocery store when it’s BOGO free… usually around $2.50/lb. If you’re in the south, Publix and Kroger both do these sales fairly often.
The Costco of restaurants is Costco business center
BUTTAH ! ! !
1 Gallon ice cream 25.00. Costco Wins
Nah that's not one gallon of ice cream😅not sure who you or the creator didn't notice the size...
You failed to mention that Costco accepts every one with or without business or a restaurant 😮
There is actually such a thing as Costco Business. You can buy a special membership for it, but a regular membership will get you in the door. I went through one and was impressed. I don't know how the prices compare but I do plan on going back at some point to buy some kitchen equipment that will be a very cheap and good quality upgrade.
Regular membership is all that is needed to shop in the business store.
And most of the ingredients in Restaurant Depot contain horrific ingredients such as canola and soybean oil, margarine, high fructose corn syrup and GMOs. Costco is way better because they mostly sell real food.
Says 'horrific items' and lists everyday food items. 🤣 You've been sold a fake bill of health foods.
ummmmm..... do you read the labels on costco products? they got ALL that same shit in them too lol
@@queenlip6152 yeah you’d be the one to call Coke and Doritos as “everyday food items”, ya heffa.
@@MEN101 GMO isnt even bad lol
@@ernestogastelum9123 you just drink glyphosate like it’s water then hey?
how are yall JUST now finding out about restaurant depot 😭
Yup you can buy bulk at a good deal. I hit Cash&Carry in Portland Oregon now it's called Chef'sStore.
Costco’s lil brother
you have to have a business to get a membership here. with a taxpayer id. so its not like 99 percent of people can shop here even if they wanted to
Set up a 'business'.
Even just an Etsy account, you don't have to be an active 'business' or incur costs beyond possibly selling one item; it could be a plastic bag, doesn't matter. 🙂😉
Theres one near my house and ive walked in and shopped before
Their membership page also says for families of 6+ wonder if they shop there or just other big box stores
Get a day pass from the front desk. No cost for a day pass.
I think they made shopping there a bit more accessable after the pandemic, not requiring the business license anymore
Go tryout a Costco Business center
I live in BC Canada and I've NEVER heard of Restaurant Depot. It is such a FANTASTIC idea!!!!
The rollie cart thingy is called a U boat, which is odd bc it's not a boat and is only sort of U shaped.
Costco of restaurants ❌
Home Depot of restaurants ✅
25 dollars for a gallon of ice cream… I think Costco is kicking their feet up after hearing that
I regularly shop at a business Costco, catering to businesses. Any member can enter. Non-consumer bulk items. Yes, big butter blocks, too. Not quite as good as the Restaurant Depot for many things, but lots of restaurants and shops order from or shop at business Costcos.
I've been to Costco maybe 5x since they opened, mostly with card holders. It just didn't fascinate me. Restaurant Depot, if they have cookware, tools, etc. sounds like something I would enjoy.
Wouldnt this be more compared to Costco Business Center rather than Costco Wholesale or Sams Club? But maybe not, good to know theres competition out there still.
“Costco is quivering right now.” Yeah, let me just start up a restaurant so I can shop here instead. 😂
You can't 🥫 buy gas, clothes, among other items at Restaurant Depot! Costco sells theses and food 🍲!!!
That "rolly cart thingy" is actually called a U-Boat.
My local supermarket has cheaper prices than that💀 we savin money over here
Been going to restaurant depot in Nashville since it opened....love that place! I could stay in the refrigerated area for hours and luckily they provide jackets. My mom owned a catering company which gave us access, but kinda sucks you can't get it without a business.
Tip for desserts since you go to that store: Gold Medal frosting is primo stuff especially the fudge/chocolate frosting. A lot of restaurants use it. It’s so good people think it’s homemade.
I had friend that worked for some kind of warehouse like that and they had a huge surplus shipment of butter that they couldn’t sell all of so they gave all the employees a couple cases with like 30 of those 1lb blocks of butter in each case. He gave me one and every once in a while I would just decide to melt like 4 of them down into a pot and poach things in the butter like lobster, scallops, and even sting ray one time! It was awesome 😂
Also hours are super limited. They close at 6 Mon - Fri and at 3 on the weekends IIRC.
There are good deals at the Depot but membership at Sam's Club or Costco is Vastly easier than getting Resturaunt Business License (& possibly cheaper) the main advantage is shorter lines and no parking hassle
I had never heard of Restaurant Depot before and there is one in my city. Thanks for the heads up.
Haha when a young chef to be finds out about retail suppliers for the first time. It’s not the best place for quality ingredients but it’s definitely a gateway to the world of suppliers. Happy hunting.
Wait wait wait. 7am is early? Yall must be super late night owls.
I run restaurant and go to both.
Restaurant Depot is cheaper than Costco, but there are things that's cheaper if you also look at Costco Business. (For those who live near Costco Business Center). Costco has some sort of contract with producer in Egg's and Dairy so they are more immune to egg/dairy inflations when the bird flu hits.
It should be comparison between these two.
U.S Chef store is another option here in Dallas. No membership or tax id required.
"Pop up restaurant" is a wild phrase
You need to try their lemoncello cake. It’s super refreshing on a hot day
I LOVE restaurant depot! They are a bit pissy about having to update them every single year with a copy of your business license... it's just easier to find the closest US Foods ChefStore (Which I highly recommend!) since they allow the public
We have a store called "The chefs store" thats exactly like this and i love it!! Most things are so much cheaper there than Costco
Restaurant depo is the grocery store for businesses and restaurants hence the name. Of course everything in there is massive. It’s meant to supply the needs of an open operating restaurant.
Having worked in restaurants for decades, I prefer US Chefs' Store (Cash & Carry). Parking is easy, store is a smaller footprint, and they have competitive pricing against Costco. I'll go out of my way for Restaurant Depot if i need something specific or smallwares/uniforms as they have good selection.
US Foodservice Chef's store is open to public, no membership, same bulk or small quantity items for wholesale pricing
Arni,
Hope your return to Finland went well.
Great video.
Exchanges are great as I think it hammers home the point that people are people.
BTW, for what it is worth, I am subscribed.
The tiramisu is actually fantastic
Used to shop there with my dad when I was younger….😍 it really will dent the pockets because you’ll want it all!
There is one of these a few blocks away.
Definitely my go to for everyday things.
Spcies/cheese/butter.
I've gotten many whole 3lb chicken for 6$.
Once, they were just giving away bags of carrots.
I’m from Iowa and the prices of that stuff are outrageous compared to here. Even at regular stores. That one pound of butter is 3.49 at the regular local grocery stores here. So glad I live in the upper Midwest. Middle of nowhere and still cheaper to live. Crazy.
Where i live you can go to those kind of stores, it doesn't matter if you don't have a restaurant or something.
I shop once a month at Costco for my big family and it’s much cheaper then any wholesale store I’ve been to. With 6 kids under the age of 10 I spend anywhere from $600 to 1000k and we are good to go for the rest of the month which is a lot less then the national average. All my children are homeschooled so I’m making breakfast lunch snack and dinner at home. And we eat organic non gmo which comes with a higher price tag in most stores. If you are on the fence I personally would go with Costco. And at the end of the year I actually get a check from them and part of it pays my annual membership in full.
Disclaimer: You need to be a restaurant owner or in industry to obtain a membership. You cant apply and go like Costco.
we also have US Chef Mart which is the same kind of store..also a restaurant supply, HOWEVER You do NOT need a business license to shop there...@ US Chef Mart I mean :)
The regular supermarket is their competition
