Most students accepted to New York City's top public high schools come from middle class and affluent neighborhoods. But there's a section in Brooklyn where low-income families have cracked the code, and changed the face of the elite schools. The area includes Sunset Park, Bensonhurst and Dyker Heights.

I use prep books, no tutor cuz its expensive. Best advice is to do your best and remember how you got 44/57 and 54/57. Try to do it in the real test

I took a test prep class that my school provided after school for like an hour and a half a couple of times a week for a couple months... i got a 571... My best advice, just practice the types of questions that will come up on the shsat and you will do well. Get any shsat textbook and practice practice practice
    (Got into Stuyvesant btw)

I am not Asian, but I applaud these kids. They are working hard, striving to be great This is what this country is about. DeBlasio and his cronies want to reward mediocrity. As a result the so-called Specialized schools will no longer be so special

Bottom-line: These kids put the work in and studied. The one sentence that many Asian parents say to their kids most often is "Are you done with your homework?" This helps set the priority for the kids. In the thousands of years of Asian history -- there are means for the poor to catapult to aristocracy through studying well and earning a place as a high government official. We want to replicate that aspect of the culture, not to penalize it.

Boi, i have to say because I had went to A plus for 1 year and I’m telling you guys that it’s not as good as you though( to parents and child). Because, unless the child really have a goal for a good school, and having a plan that going to specialized high school is the best way, then please send your child to those after school program. But for me, I found that school isn’t the best way to get experience in life, so did games, friends, free time and dependency, so please don’t force your child to goto these programs, they are just waste of your money( parents) is your child doesn’t have the desire to.

Its test prep that Success Academy type charter schools provide their students for free what the comment sections ignore and the charter schools dont advertise the SHAT either. Also test prep is not teaching lessons I wonder what these students look like in a real advanced challenging curriculm in a school that wont slow down and explain? How many students does the Specialized schools lose because the test prep kids do not understand the work?
