Oh my god The Diamonds swapped designs in this AU look so lovely!! Especially White and Blue's! Blue looks like a literal space goddess, while White looks like a rich grieving widow. Especially with the fancy hat. And Yellow Diamond Steven looks good too

2:30 - 2:44 is straight terrifying. They look like og Blue when she's sad, but much worse. When white is controlling, they look like happy, albeit creep dolls, happy to be ' fixed '. But here... dear god. They look like lost, sad souls praying for release and someone to end their suffering. Like corpses being used as puppets. Nice job. Edit 2 months later: I'm less traumatized, so I can explain better. It's like Blue is miserable, so she sucks everyone else in like a black hole and forces then to feel her misery for eternity. Like an abusive mother that forces her children to be sad with her too to feel better. Because she believes it's her childrens' job to manage her feelings and make sure she's happy instead of the other way around.

Indeed. And in the Blue diamond AU where Yellow is in white’s place, they have a strong emotionless face and have like a statue stance to it. As yellow was the most fighting type out of the diamonds it would make sence if she had white’s powers her puppeted gems would have like a stone army type of stance with very little emotion in their faces

I wish canon Blue Diamond final design would have resembled this one, this design is similar to her appearance in "The Answer" in which she looked as magnificent and mysterious. She looks like a true queen/goddess here which is what would be expected from a Diamond and I feel like at times The Diamonds haven't always been represented right visually, so this is good to see.

Her design looks like she’s determined, decisive just like her role in the AU should be, but still energetic and lively because that’s still Pink’s personality. I love the designs and the animation looks so fluid! The details like Pearl being blue and the grief-stricken faces of gems under Blue's control really paid homage to the source material, I think. That's exactly how I'd imagine Blue would rule - White was an unrelenting perfectionist who pretends that everything is fine, her family isn't falling apart, and strict control made gems obey in fear. Blue, however, is about emotions. I'd imagine her grief and hopelessness after losing Yellow would cause an empire-wide depression that dulled every gem's senses and made them resigned to their fate. The other Diamonds are able to resist it somewhat, but Pink lost her passion and White lost her will.
A divergence from this AU from what I imagine is that the Diamonds all keep their original gem placements, since that would mean Blue and Yellow has the same matching placement indicating a powerful bond (as they have in the show) that would have added layers to the story. They also retain a lot of their OG personality - Pink would be passionate about her work and take time to enjoy and have fun with her gems and the worlds they conquer, too selfish to stop her fun even as she witnesses destruction of planets. White's gems would all be pristine and strict, not a speck of imperfection on them, and they're basically her puppets - she's controlling swaths of them at a time to do her bidding, delegating and micromanaging everything. Blue's gems are being manipulated to feel a certain way to get them to do whatever she wants (like her clouds that forced happiness on people), and after Yellow's death they are rarely seen anymore as they stay almost exclusively within Blue's chambers, dejected, moving soullessly around doing basic chores.
Yellow, being a natural strategist, desperately wants her own colony because she sees how others rule and it irks her to no end that they don't maximize efficacy and productivity. However, the other Diamonds saw her as too rigid and stubborn, too demanding on her Pearls, and wanted her to mature more first. Blue also loves this little LOGIC and NO EMOTIONS >:T gremlin, finding her hilarious, and likes poking and probing at her until her tough exterior cracks to expose her softness. As such, she is unwilling to have Yellow be too far apart from her and keeps delaying her colony. Pink sees her as her funny grouchy little sister, and White sees her as the only other logical one who doesn't get overwhelmed by "feelings".
When she finally gets her own colony, Blue and Yellow switch Pearls to have a part of each other close by (Pearl's love and loyalty to Yellow in part comes from Blue, and through subtext implies that deep down, Blue will always ultimately support Yellow's decisions, and this factors in to why she changes her mind later). Yellow decides the best way to collect information is to be among her gems, so she disguises herself as one of them. She realises the Earth has way more resources to offer (much like Peridot), and questions why they keep conquering planets in the first place. If it's for gemkind, shouldn't they be able to enjoy it? Why do all this if gems are not happy? It seems unreasonable to continually expand their empire across the universe without a fixed goal, and she gathers that gems can be even more innovative when they are allowed to explore outside of their set roles. Through observing humans, she decides that opportunity for personal growth made gems even better, and diversity of opinions increased the chances of finding good ideas. The other Diamonds disagree, arguing that freedom to explore will only cripple the empire and they will lose control to do what they want or do things the way they prefer.
Yellow Steven is an extremely curious child who likes to figure out how things work. Although his default is logic and reason, he's learned over the years the benefits of empathy and emotions as well, in part because the Crystal Gems taught him to loosen up and enjoy the moment more. He loves studying with Connie, and is able to be vulnerable with Greg. During his confrontation with Blue, where she is yelling at him about how she loved and grieved for Yellow but now she's acting like she doesn't even know her (Blue), it is Steven's ability to be open, communicative, and vulnerable that gets Blue to open up, shocked by how much Yellow has changed and finally acknowledging the truth (or, like in the show, he cracks a joke which is something Yellow would not have done). Realizing the impactful effects of personal growth, she relinquishes her stranglehold on other gems and puts a stop to their eternal conquest.
Okay, so I may have gone a bit overboard with the length on this one. Kind of wandered too far. Thanks if you made it all the way to the end!

Turning yellow is a metaphor for fear, I believe. So instead of Blue feeling embarrassed, she'd be feeling terrified. That's pretty interesting.
