- Our man Anthony Garnon recently uncovered this terrific piece of audio recorded at Forbidden Planet London in June 1987: a young Neil Gaiman interviewing the man who inspired our Forbidden Planet 42 celebrations: the immortal Douglas Adams, creator of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

I have this dated as Saturday 13 June 1987.
2 of my favorite authors together.
I'm thinking this must date to 1987? He speaks about the "safaris" planned for "most of next year" - those trips began in 1988 and became Last Chance to See

I think your DNA knowledge is better than mine, but this appears to be correct. The end of the interview talks about book signings, so this is from a public appearance rather than a TV or radio interview. Dirk Gently was published in 87, so it seems likely that this would have been part of Douglas' book signing tour, especially given the nature of the audience questions. Can't seem to locate an exact date of DG publication though.
@@davypi2 I don't know the exact publication date for DGHDA either, but I can say he did a book signing for it at FP on the 13th of June 1987...
