  • First in the series of videos showing how to convert the Bruder MB Sprinter using hobby-grade RC. In this first video I first unbox the model and then go through each of the features of the stock model, testing some of the Bruder models I have already modified to see if they can get on the back of the truck. Finally I start to consider some of the options I might have to convert this to RC.
My intention in the videos that follow will be to convert the truck using commonly available, inexpensive components and methods which are available to and achievable by most people.
I am very happy to receive comments and suggestions & hear about your ideas in the comments section.

i was thinking right at the start how the side storage would be a perfect battery tray... luckily lipo batteries come in practically every size and shape...
as for steering, it shouldnt be too difficult to fabricate... either pinch the front end from a donor or be creative with some plastic/metal brackets... meccano sets work quite well for bits to make steering... not advised for fast or heavy but it should be perfect for this application...

Thanks. Good thoughts. One of the big challenges will be to keep the cost and complexity down, while creating something with good functionality. I am resisting the temptation of just raiding one of my hobby grade models.

@@RCModders you have any old pull rods laying about? maybe they could make a decent mounting point for a knuckle... as for the knuckles themselves, maybe using the original axle cut short with the end threaded and fabricating a knuckle with some hdpe (chopping board or melt down some plastic bottle caps) hdpe is decently strong and has some give in an impact... if you could make 2 cubes from it and drill a hole through the same diameter as the original axle then shape it to accept some wire from the servo then a nut on the end where you threaded it then the rest should be easy to get working... another suggestion is to look in charity shops for some old rc cars you can scavenge parts from... most can be had for next to nothing

Some great suggestions. I think I'll start by trying the knuckles from the Jeep which came free on the back of the Sprinter - they look promising - & post a video of this if it works out.
