  • The Frank Lloyd Wright designed Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center which is located in the heart of Madison’s vibrant downtown on the shore of Lake Monona.
Wright made several alterations to the design of Monona Terrace during his lifetime. In 1990, Madison Wisconsin Mayor Paul Soglin resurrected Wright's proposal, which won narrow approval in a public referendum in 1992. Construction began two years later.
In 1997, nearly sixty years after Wright's original inception, Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center opened its doors. The final design as executed was by Taliesin architect (and former Wright apprentice) Anthony Puttnam, based on Wright's design.
The Monona Terrace in Madison, WI is one of the many Wright buildings which are featured as part of the new Frank Lloyd Wright Trail celebrating the 150 anniversary of the artists birth. #FLW150 The trail includes: The SC Johnson Administration Building, The Johnson Research Laboratory, The Golden Rondelle Theater, The First Unitarian Society Meeting House and more.
Wisconsin is home to more than 40 Frank Lloyd Wight structures, so come visit Wisconsin and explore the new FLW trail. #franklloydwright #architecture

Fascinating to see a near 60-year old FLLW design executed out of time, almost 40 years after Wright's death. Another example is the Bank of Nova Scotia bldg. in Toronto that was designed at the peak of art deco period, but due to Great Depression, then WWII the bldg. was not built until 1951. The end result was a 1931 bldg. new in 1951. Monona Terrace incorporates many FLLW elements seen elsewhere incl. seating, built-in furniture and parking garage with Guggenheim influences.
