Same reason Toyota is still selling a ton of 4runners. An honest, reliable, durable vehicle. So few of those left these days.
I love my Titan. I wanted it because V8 is standard. There is no turbos to break. Father in law had a RAM which was really nice. Until he told us his turbos blew out and it was going to be around $5k to fix. I dont have air suspension or other expensive crap that will break some time. I honestly think it never sold well is because Nissan never really marketed this vehicle. They could of made some commercial saying designed in California, engineered in Michigan, power train built in Tennessee, assembled in Mississippi and tested in Arizona a truck for Americans made by Americans then throw in a couple of explosions and it jumping the Grand Canyon. That would of at least upped their sales.
My wife's boyfriend picked up one of these last year and I've been pretty impressed with it. Transmission performance is shockingly good, and the engine loves to rev out. I've managed to get 21mpg out of it on the highway.

Construction companies, landscape, irrigation.. here in new England. When the conversation at lunch time starts around our pickup.. everybody loves Nissan Titan.
Bought one of these a few months ago. Same Pro-4X trim. Heated/cooled seats, panoramic roof, Fender audio, etc…$62K sticker and I paid $54K. I looked at all the half-ton trucks and I was won over because it was way more bang for the buck and it feels solid and honest. Great power train. Great warranty. Plenty of luxury.
That’s a pretty good deal on the lowest rated full size on the market.
@@The_Rob_D Certainly not the best truck, but definitely under appreciated, and a good value when you find a deal. If I didn’t want a Pro-4X I could’ve saved $8-10K and still had a nicely equipped truck.
@@KevinLeeLowhorn Don’t get me wrong, they are beautiful trucks. A buddy of mine has one (a 2019 I think) and it’s pretty nice. I just wish they’d catch up with the other companies as far as power, towing, and gas mileage goes.
@@The_Rob_D Yeah. The powertrain with the new 9-speed is pretty nice. I have a 3” leveling kit and 35” tires, so I threw economy out the window, but I’m still doing 19 highway. I was doing 22-23 beforehand which really isn’t bad for a V8.

With the simpler controls and engineering, my guess is this would be a much lower cost of ownership in the 10-year period versus the dealer or mechanic visits needed after several years outside warranty on the new Dodge and Ford trucks.

@@Kyle-ty6mx ya it’s weird for the longest time they would develop the technology, put early versions in there cars, then not develop it further, then in a couple years other companies do it better then put it in reliably.
One thing not covered here is that these trucks are a screaming deal. I’ve owned this exact truck (21 Pro4x, max options) for a year. The MSRP was $63k, but I got it for $50k out the door. For any similarly equipped competing truck, the price was firmly in the $60k-$70k range.
It’s been a perfectly reliable, comfortable, albeit thirsty daily driver for the 1 year and 16000 miles I’ve had it so far. Every Nissan tech I’ve talked to said the gas Titans are basically never in for major issues. A buddy of mine still daily drives his 17 year old, 400,000 mile Titan as well, so hopefully that’s a good indication of the reliability.
I got a similar deal last April and thought it was by far the best truck for the price. Too bad that it's not being offer anymore.

Thank you both for doing this review. Everything you guys have mentioned about the Titan, is the simply reason why I love this truck. I’ve only held off on buying it previously because of the dated interior and the grossly steering wheel.

@@gilbert.mendez Absolutely true, especially on the darker colors. But the solution is very simple. Ceramic coating once every 4-5 years depending upon climate. IMO it should not be required and frustrates me. But it's a small sacrifice I'm willing to make to get everything else I want in a vehicle.
That gear selector.... I love it! My pops bought a Ram and trying to turn dial shift that thing. Well it isn't fun. prefer an actual gear selector. Go Nissan.

First gen titan is a hidden gem in the used truck market. You just have to replace the manifolds/cats and do a $30 diff breather and you have a rock solid truck.
Very true. Specifically if you can get an 08 or newer, they worked out a lot of the early kinks. I owned an 04 and an 11. The 2011 was a much better, more reliable truck.
And the radiator/trans cooler, cruise control module, AC blower doors, AC vents, map lights, and sun visors. I love mine, but there are a lot of little things Nissan screwed up. I'm curious if the quality of the 2016+ models holds up a lot better than my 06.
My dad bought his Titan new in 08 and it’s still running strong, never needed anything other than normal maintenance
I owned an 05 and the rear diff totally went out. Loved the truck up until that point, though
@@nickrreese same with a friend of mine. Bought it new in 05 and about 3 years ago the diff locked up. Got it repaired for about $700 and kept going. No other major issues to this day.
We have three 2004 Nissan Titans in our fleet...All three are beat up as we used them in the quarry, but surprisingly they have been realiable and all are still running til this day. One of them just past the 300k mark....
What Jack said about "If you're going to cross-shop the American trucks, you're going to make a lot of compromises"... Well.... I feel it's the direct opposite. This truck does everything that a truck should do WITHOUT being an overpriced "Look at the 24" Info screen!" Space Shuttle. This is the truck I would buy for many reasons! Great V8, Physical controls, Long warranty.
If you do the research, Owners of these trucks LOVE them. Many have come from the "Big Three" to this because of all the other over-complicated BS... You've confused "not to follow" with being at the edge of bankruptcy. It doesn't cancel the good and practical things about it, but one need to be clear of why. If they had the money they would've done exactly the same as others.

Sometimes it works out and for many people, the Big 3 trucks are inflated behemoths. I hope they keep it as simple as they can. It's a highly underrated truck.

Bought a '21 a year ago and it was still a great deal at the time (compared to everything else). About $7K less than a comparable RAM Rebel or Tundra and it drove just as well. The V8 is great and I liked the interior (although the angle for the center screen means it catches glare WAY too often).
I only use it to tow a about 6,000# but it does it like it's not even there. Comfortable interior and much quieter than I expected from a truck.
I'd gladly buy it again.

@@kenj.8897 ~2,000# for the trailer and #2,500 for the race car. Add another #500 for tools, fuel and tires. Tows / hauls it like it's not even there.

@@jesusbarajas8067 Holding up great. Using it to tow a trailer, sometimes drive it to work and errands. Hauls well, comfortable. It's my to-go for long trips because it's so comfortable. I'd easily buy it again (although maybe in blue this time).
This truck is pretty nice, like everyone has said it’s “new old”. However at this price tag it’s a bit difficult to justify… but that’s hard to say with a straight face with car prices right now
I agree with that statement. I own one that I purchased last year for $12k off msrp before all the supply shortages hit. At msrp, I think it’s overpriced. I hope Nissan does another iteration of it but with the low sales and Nissan’s financial situation, I’m not sure they can justify a re-design to try to go head to head with the Detroit triplets again.

Yeah at MSRP, the Titan isn’t worth it. I got mine a year ago for $13k below MSRP though. At that price it was a killer deal.
You can likely get a far better discount on these even in this climate than any other new full size.
@@splewy yep, I agree. A loaded pro-4x less than $50k is a good deal. $63-$64k, not so much. You’re almost in king ranch/platinum trim from Ford for that. I’ve heard of some still getting discounts but nothing like last year. Meanwhile, ford and Chevy dealers are marking up over msrp.
Still driving my 2011 Nissan Titan crew cab 4x4. Only negatives are gas mileage and parking it but everything else is good, no major problems and a powerful, nice sounding engine.
What are you getting for mileage in it?

Thanks for doing this review. My 2019 platinum with 27k has been a very good truck. Came from a Tundra of 15yrs. Drove em all. Titan has the most comfortable seats in the truck market hands down. The truck is very , very quiet. Ive tested it back to back with 2022 tundra and a 2022 gx460 and titan is 3-5db quieter than both. Fender stereo is quite good. V8 and 7sp tran is smooth. For me, 13 mpg city, 15combined, 23 mpg on a 160mile highway trip last week. I'm good with that from a v8. And it has stock 33s on it, so it looks good out the box. 22 Tundra puts 32s on their trd off roads. And it gets about the same mpgs as a Titan. V8 any day over turbo 6.
"Dinosaur Stories" is applicable to basically any Nissan. Their bet on keeping their lineup outdated and stagnant is finally paying off and can now be considered as a unique offering! Which is an "old new car".
That's some long term planning and strategy right there!

I bought my '21 Pro-4x last summer (trade for a 2011 F150, which I loved), and I have almost nothing but positive things to say about it. I was constantly surprised at the amount of tech that is actually in it. Auto everything, 360` cameras, great Fender sound system, comfy seats, looks great, and is one of the better sounding trucks you can get as stock and for thousands less than comparably equipped competition. The gas mileage is my biggest complaint.
I think the diesels were discontinued after 2019 (Titan XD only). For 2020 or later, the VK56 gas engine is the only option.
What kind of mileage are you getting out of it? I've managed 21mpg on the highway.

Try not punch in the gas all the time and you won't believe the gas mileage you get on it
I still own my 2004 Titan, I've literally never had a problem with it. It had some known issues, like somewhat weak brakes. But it still runs great, rock solid engine & transmission.
I have it's sibling... 2009 Armada. Still running strong and reliable.
Hold on to that thing if its a pro 4x

I love my 19 Pro 4X, the column mounted shifter was one of the selling points for me. I like the knobs, V8 sounds amazing.
This is the only reason I would not buy one, shifters belong on the floor.
I bought a 2021 SV Titan 3 weeks ago and I love it. Very comfortable, quiet and drives very well.

Knock, knock, who's there? Number 7 cylinder here scoring the cylinder wall buddy. Drain the oil and see the shiny metallic particles. TSB-19-057. The diesels already got recalled- safety issue when the crankshaft snaps on the freeway.
A very happy 2022 Titan Pro 4X owner here. It is shockingly good, shocklingly comfortable, and a very honest old school truck. Having Fender speakers makes it a true rockin roller, going against the mainstream. I am absolutely in love with it, just as much as I dislike the new gen Tundra. My favorite feature? Besdies having a proper v8 and superior Japanese transmission, the fact that it has analog buttons for everything, including media system. I am absolutely riding this thing for the next decade.
Mercedes-Benz design at 9 speed and it was so reliable and so good for Mercedes for so long that Nissan took it and built their own in Japan and it's unbelievable I don't know how long it's going to last but I'll tell you what I pounded mine and it doesn't miss a beat it's smooth as hell
This is the exact reason I bought my 2019. I can’t stand all the active fuel management and engine start stop crap. I just wanted a naturally aspirated V8 engine with none of the bs all the other manufacturers are doing.
I just prefer a full size truck with a V8.
I shopped/drove this truck along with every new midsize and full size truck. Ended up with a completely loaded 2020 king cab Pro4x (1 year with 9spd, locker, and 79" bed) with 9k miles for 42k. Heated seats/steering, solid stereo, no moon roof etc. In this market that's a smoking deal. I came from a loaded and lifted 16 GX460 (love dinos I guess). This truck has nearly as good of a stereo (Mark Lev in GX), gets better gas mileage, better headlights, and is just as comfortable. Absolutely love my Titan; especially for the money. I put an Icon/Nissan 2.5" lift on it and other than going to 17" wheels and 34" tires it needs nothing.
All the domestics at this price point we're stripped out and have marginal measured clearance, the used Tundra was uncomfortable with leather and way more expensive with more miles, the new Tundra is ugly and they ruined the double cab interior space (plus no recovery points) and all the midsize trucks got virtually the same gas mileage as this V8.
Choice was clear for me and my use case (Colorado trails, western hunting, fixing up house, comfortable highway cruiser, pop-up shell camper, carry motorcycle with bed up, etc). Give it a drive, it's worth taking the time.
Anyone will come off a lot cheaper with this truck compared to the competition, it's cheaper, better warranty that may never get used. It's simple and not driving up the price with all the safety gadgets, sensors and switches. I'm thinking more logically as I age and this 🤔 has me wondering what I want and don't need!
This makes me wish Toyota never updated the Tundra. The new one is too tech heavy, IMO.

It's refreshing to see a 'retro' truck that doesn't require you to take an IT class to use its controls. Plus, there's the added benefit of not having all that tech crater after three years - a condition that begs for an extended warranty.
I have owned one since early 2021 and have no issues. I received a 20 yr 200k drive train warranty for free from my dealership. I also pull a 2021 Keystone Bullet Premier 30RIPR with no issues. Great truck! I purchased this over the F-150 because of the stop and go engine. Eric

I've had a 17 titan SL for around 15,000 miles now and I really enjoy driving it. Seats are comfortable, engine is powerful and sounds great, sound system is really good quality. My only real gripes are the old infotainment and the 7 speed transmission is sluggish to react to inputs, both of which were fixed on the refresh model. I drove a 21 rental truck awhile and loved it. The fuel economy is a compromise you should expect getting into a truck of this size. For what it's worth, I had a 2019 F150 Limited previously and I never saw better than 18mpg on that thing. The Ford was also about 600lbs lighter than the Titan.

@@MeliorIlle the F150 was purchased before vehicle prices skyrocketed. Plus the F150 had multiple recalls and a number of tech problems related to cooled seats and infortainment. Profiting 10k after 2 years of ownership and getting into a better valued vehicle may be hard to understand for someone with limited mental capabilities, but that's okay I'm not judging you.
It sounds like you made a very nice deal. Don’t listen to the naysayers. The Titan SL is a great choice: both upscale and utilitarian. And you don’t see them on the road everyday ; another bonus point.
I own a 2018 Titan 4x4. 400 HP V* quiet, tows well, lots of room, easy to maintenance. Amazing truck

I'm one of those old (young still) fogies that doesn't like having everything be high tech in a car. I've found so many of those things over the years to be more of a PITA than a real help due to reliability, cost, and just general finickiness.
Not a Nissan guy myself, but it's nice to see someone is still doing it
I have a 2007 with 163,000 and everything works on it. Its never been to the dealership or a repair shop. I've done all the required maintenance and I plan on purchasing a new once the market returns. Best sounding V8.
I've always liked the styling of the Titan. Now that Toyota has moved to a turbo v6, the Titan would be my choice if I wanted a no frills truck with a v8.
This is why it's a dinosaur. I don't know why people like you will spend thousands more at the pump because ... V8?? Turbos and Super chargers have been around since WW2 and yes there is more pipes and tubes and complexity but it's company values and execution that matter more than the stereotypes that are more caveman than anything. When a turbo is attached, its HP vs torque as well and most people think low RPM is better but thats another caveman principle not entirely based on facts.

Own a 2021, easily a 10 year vehicle purchase.
Also the bumper to bumper warranty is unheard of.
If they didn't believe in that product they wouldn't have given that much of a warranty none of the other truck companies do it for their gas engines

I had one of these as a rental a while back (go figure) and it genuinely impressed me. Comfy, tons of power and space and I returned close to 19mpg driving like a total dick. I'm not a nissan guy, but outside the Tundra, I'd take one of these over the big 3, just for consistency alone. Every time I look there's some new catastrophic issues with them, don't hear as much about Titans blowing up outside the Cummins one.
Yeah, there are more than a few of the Cummins for sale around here, low mileage and priced to move. But I would never trust them. I'm sad that it was such a bomb for nissan and it seem like a match made in heaven(for me at least)
I have a 2022 Frontier and it's the perfect truck for me for a lot of the same reasons here. Just a good honest, analog truck. Plenty of power and nice tech without being silly.
My favorite 1/2 ton pickup.
My family have owned 4 Titan's (1st Gen) since they came out in 2004. I can say this. They are pretty tough. GOD and the Titan saved my Dad's life in a Severe car accident that would be the equivalent (as stated by the police) of hitting a brick wall head on doing 70mph. The safety cage of the truck was intact and though they had to use the jaws of life to cut my Dad out the Emergency Responders were surprised how intact the inside was. On top of that, the engines are pretty much bulletproof, and though may be a little cheap looking, the interior is easy to clean and it lasts. The kicker now for the Titan is cost. A Pro 4X can hit around $60k and I just don't see it. Great Truck, but trucks used to be cheap back in the day, and now? WOW. How do people afford them? Plus the gas? Yikes.
A major thing they missed- price. These are about 62k msrp and dealerships take anywhere from 4-6k off sticker. A F150 tremor equally equipped is over 70k. Do the math on that. Plus, I had a ‘23 Tundra TRD pro. It was making the same mpg as this titan with v6, 2 turbos and 10-speed. Also, it was a harsh ride w the Fox shocks and uncomfortable seats. Please manufactures pay attention to these details and continue to make trucks like this titan.

After shopping every new truck on the market, wanting a new F250, I went with a Titan XD.
Has it blown up yet?...I love the gas v8 and considered getting the xd cummins, but after hearing all the horror stories, I decided on the pro 4x. I really wanted the Xd to be a good truck.
Excellent review, as always - really appreciate a review of an "off the beaten path" truck like this.
I got a '22 Frontier Pro-4X and while I would've loved the titan the frontier fit what I needed in a truck more. Nissan makes a very simple and nice truck. You don't need anything else in reality. I used to buy Dodge trucks and they have gotten insane in cost and complexity. Heck, the frontier still has hydraulic steering.
I love the new Titan Pro4X. I will be upgrading my Frontier Pro4x for the new Titan because I need more towing capacity.

We bought a 21 Titan Platinum Reserve last year. Got rid of our Chevy High Country High Dessert. The Titan’s power won our hearts.
It's a nice truck. Same goes for the new Frontier. Nissan seems to be returning to its old self, back when they made simple, reliable vehicles. Let's hope.
Yep. Nissan is turning into 2000s Honda (Simple, Good, Reliable), while Honda is turning into 2000s Kia/Hyndai (Floppy, can't keep up to par), And Hyndai Kia is turning into 2000s Nissan (Selling to lower incomes, pretending it's more than it is; hits & misses)
Used ones used to run about 30k-38k and it is a lot of truck for the money (considering how bloody expensive everything else is). And the reliability is well above avg thanks to a proven drivetrain. A The few knocks for the pre 2020 ones are the infotainment system and meh ride (it is a truck on AP tires tho, if you want a smooth ride get an SUV or a Ridgeline) but at least you can spend around 500 and swap in a 12 inch screen.

Even though a lot of the interior tech is older, that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s still simple and easy to use and it works lol. I have a 2021 pro4x and love it. Better then I ever thought. Yeah materials inside could be better but it feels solid. Absolutely love it
As an IT professional I can say I hate all the new gimmicky tech in brand new cars. If I were in the market for a V8 truck that can tow 9,000 lbs I would get this. I am a fan of the VK56 engine.

I am on my second Titan Pro4X. I owned the first one for 8 years and the only thing I ever did to it (other than oil changes) was getting a new battery. I now own a 2018. No issues. If you want to buy the same from the American competition, you pay at least (!) 20k more! and guess what, every day in the lunchroom, I hear the horror stories from the Ford and Chevy owners. Brand new Chevy Trail Blazers: engine problems, oil pumps shitting the bed, transmission failure ... And wanna hear the best? The Chevy dealers can't repair brand new trucks under warranty because they can't get the parts! You want to talk about smiling? I smile every single day eating my lunch!
Glad to see the Titan getting some love in the reviews. I have an 04 that I bought new and have had zero issues.

I have a 23' titan pro4x. Its transmission and fan clutch are already shot. 1,000 miles in it. Its super reliable.
Just picked up a 2020 Pro4x. 6k miles. $42k. Grampa owned. We love it!

@@nemesis656there is a service bulletin for hesitation from slow roll or full stop. It’s for a transmission control issue. I compare it to driving with the vehicle in “ECO” mode. But doesn’t have this option. It’ll be going in soon.

Just sold my 2005 titan and bought a 2023 Titan. Wow, so much nicer. Great value for the dollar. Glad to get a non turbo engine yet still pushes 20 mpg! Cool.
What tech the Titan has is functional and the truck itself is old school. That's exactly what I want in a truck. Sure, a Ram Laramie is a pleasant truck to drive especially with the air suspension and high grade leather but I want a truck to feel old school. They just feel that much more durable and there's less anxiety when taking it off road or using it for real work.
When I bought my current truck, a 2016 F150, I went with the 5.0 and the 6 speed over the Ecoboost and the 10 speed. I wanted reliability and durability and I somewhat understand the appeal of this truck. I’d still be wary of that 9 speed, especially if pushing the limits of tow capacity!

@@jamesmedina2062 more gears means more shifting and more moving parts. Engine loads shouldn’t be a concern with V8s.
@@jayfxdx seems to still have shorter gears then a 10 speed, I don’t think it would need to shift like crazy when towing.

Just bought one for $5k under msrp. I sold most of my other cars because this and a 911 turbo cab, covers everything! The Ford was $88k, dodge ten less, this $55k out the door and love it.
One of the few only trucks left that doesn’t have active fuel management, which is a plus for me
It’s down to this or the f150 with the 5.0. I just like the idea of being able to find my truck at Costco so I’ll probably pick the titan.
The one thing I have noticed with the TItan is that in its 4x4 configuration it can tow almost 10k while other brands you need to get a 2wd truck to get the max towing numbers the others advertise.
finally a company that is willing to build a proper truck with NO gymicks and expensive useless crap thats gonna break and cost a million bucks to fix . and to add to all thats. its a very very very sexy truck
Based off a 2004 frame tried and tried I traded in my old 2010 in a month ago for a pro4x XD loving it! And the best is full confidence. I won’t be stuck inside the road.

I just got a 2024 loaded 4 pro x . And I love it. I'm not a sheep buying ford. And Chevy and dodge.. and best of all it has no shut down and go engine crap.. btw it was 52k. You can't beat that. Most competitors are equipped a whole lot less

Ah the Titan… If you really compare these $ for $ against its competitors the Titan is a bargain. Maybe not as refined or as blingy, but it is a price performer and capable.
Just remember gimmicks don't make a truck reliable they leave you on the side of the road
Not exactly the same comparison, but I had a 2021 Titan XD Platinum Reserve that I loved. Had all the tech anyone needs, was easily $15K cheaper than its competition, and the 5 year/100K mile bumper to bumper warranty put everything else to shame. MPG was meh, but that's what you get with a reliable proven V8 that sounds awesome. The ONLY reason I had to get rid of it was we needed a much larger truck (Ram 5500) to haul the camper we decided to go with. I would buy another with no hesitation.
Considering the corporate side of this unit, I would buy one and drive it without worry. I've owned 3 Nissan Maxima cars and 1 Nissan Sentra SE. I can't remember ever needing to revisit the dealership for anything but to look at the "next years" offerings. I would buy a Titan over an F-150 any day.
