The Lovin' Spoonful are among the greatest American band of the '60s. Loads of great songs written by the leader of the band John Sebastion. The producers of the TV show that became The Monkees originally intended to star the Lovin' Spoonful as the group that would be featured every week, but that fell through due to conflicts about song publishing rights. Many great songs from this band - "Nashville Cats", "Do You Believe in Magic", "She's Still a Mystery", "Daydream", "Rain on the Roof", You Didn't Have to be So Nice", "Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind."
Woodstock was just a Celebration of the 60s 🌄🪴✌️
My favorite has always been Daring Be Home Soon, who other John Sebastian could use dawdled and twaddled in the same sentence, let alone a song
@@michaellockhart554 I can't believe I Ieft that one out, Michael. One of my favorites also. The lyrics bring to mind the kind of things Cat Stevens was writing in the early '70s. I'll bet he was a fan of the Spoonful.
One of my favorite songs of the late 60;s
it's fantastic
it's sixties. john Sebastion is a great singer and song writer with hits like Do You Believe in Magic; "Nashville Cats" and also played and wrote the popular theme song to the "Welcome Back Kotter" hit sixties tv Show. He has a rabbit hole of good hit songs.
It was a 70's hit show. It brought a young John Travolta to the country.
Yes John Sebastian!
Anthem for the time. Everyone rocked out to this. Let's see what ya think...
Dig it. Camp out.🌄🐴
I always like their song "Nashville Cats" myself.
Summer anthem. Greatest piano riff.
This song is just perfect.
YES! Deep dive is worthwhile. Daydream, Nashville Cats, Did you ever have to make up your mind?, plenty of great music!
Jump on in!! Did you ever have to make up your minds, Younger girl, Nashville Cats, Do you believe in Magic, Didn’t want to have to do it, She is still a mystery to me, Jug band Music, What a day for a daydream, Darlin be home soon, You and me and rain on the roof. Get it!❤🔥
One of my faves is "Jug Band Music" Sebastian wrote some cool lyrics for that one.
The jack hammer is a nice touch! And the break before the fade out is super groovy.
HELL YEAH, 60'S ROCK...
Fun. Great summer song❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
It's so true that line "but at night it's a different world!" It is!
They had a LOT of great songs, Biz..
Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind
Coconut Grove
Do You Believe in Magic
"daydream", 'nashville cats "
John Sebastián, lead singer and song writer also did the theme song for the sit-com Welcome Back Cotter.
I was a toddler when this song dropped. It was my favorite.
I was a kid, but remember this song when it came out! Have always loved it! Thank you for this, Biz.❤
Took me back to my teenage years❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Definitely worth diving into. While not a huge rabbit hole, they did have a few hits. Try Daydream for bit of a trippy vibe
It was 1966 my friend..I was 6 and I still remember that on AM radio..lol
I am so happy to have been old enough to remember the 60's. Great music, hippies, peace and loving your brother - down side , of course is that now I'm Old - argh !! ✌
Grooving! Summer 🏞️🌞1965
Probably the first time a Jack Hammer was used as a musical component in a song.
Great pick of a summer anthem!
Love me some Lovin Spoonful!! Definitely 60s. Please give a listen to Do You Believe in Magic, and Darling Be Home Soon. A local radio station years ago had a battle of the songs and Do You Believe in Magic kept winning match up after match up. At 17 years old I left for a year in Finland and a dear friend sang Darling Be Home Soon as my going away gift. So special. Love your reactions!
Greetings from Ireland Bizmatik☘️
Great memories from my 20's. I'm an old man now. Thanks for the memories.
"Did You Ever Have To Make Up Your Mind?" and "Rain on the Roof."
Excellent song 🎉
The 60s was my childhood and this brings back so many great memories. You didn’t have to be so nice was another hit of theirs
A one hit wonder from another 60s group Friend and Lover called Reach out of the Darkness was memorable for me. In the 60s, my elementary school became integrated and also my junior high school. This song was out then and it made me feel like certain the lines in the song reflected those times
Schlyrics for you!
I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together
Don't be afraid of love
(Don't be afraid) don't be afraid
Don't be afraid to love
(Listen to me)
Everybody needs a little love
Everybody needs somebody
That they can be thinking of
So reach out
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend
Thank you for digging our sound from yesteryear. What a feeling to see another generation hearing music we dug so long ago and getting it. So cool and I love your reactions my friend! ✌🏼
Thank You
Love this song!! ❤
I grew up with this tune ❤️
Always loved this song and the band! Lots more to discover. Thanks for this one! ☮️❤️😎
yea, you'll like them, great catalogue.
My dad liked this group and I do too the 60s were good for the most part
Biz, your'e killin me. hahaha I used to ride my Schwinn with an am radio strapped to the bars and remember this song always being played. Good times!
I like the song, remember when it came out but I'll stay in the country for sure.
NEAJ! Another great one!
The Lovin' Spoonful were namechecked by The Mama's and The Papa's in their song 'Creeque Alley' - you should check them out Biz.
All these recommendations are fantastic but another great rocker is Six O'Clock
Wow, been awhile since I heard this. My old vinyl LP is still on a shelf with about 100 other LP of different genre's. This song though hits a memory of when I was a teenager (mom paid of course) and took a Greyhound bus to visit my older brothers in NYC. Yes THAT CITY and it was hot. I went back to NYC when I as 20 and worked in the city at a great job for awhile, but it was winter, and the snow and slush to trudge through to the bus or subway got old really fast. LOL Other favorites is Nashville Cats, Do You Believe in Magic. So I guess Biz you have more Spoonful to be reacting to, right? RIGHT!!!!???
Yes do you believe in Magic!?Heart ❤❤
Thank you, thank you, thank you, for some sanity in this insane world. So tired of polarizing stuff on my CZcams. I always look forward to YOUR reactions.. YOU RULE..LOL
🤘🏿🤘🏿
Nashville Cats is the next song from them.
Every cat is looking for a kitty
Yeah,I remember my mother had this album. Good song! ❤
❤️
aside from the awesome lyrics, I really love the way it goes from intense and getting more intense. to really smooth in the chorus. brilliant work!
ARE YOU TRIPPIN ON SOME PSYCHEDELIC STUFF??? :) RIGHT ON! GOTTA HAVE THOSE SCHLYRICS
😂😂😂
SOUNDS LIKE SOME LITTLE BIT OF CREAM, THE GUESS WHO, YOU KNOW THAT KINDA SOUND :)
Oh lord...i was a kid, maybe 3rd grade..71 or so...i loved this song.
I seem to remember when this came out I don’t believe I was a teenager yet I remember hate Ashbury and the hippies my father and mother sitting in the front seat of the station wagon me and my sister sitting in the back we took a trip up to hate Ashbury San Francisco we’re from just 45 miles minutes out of a Los Angeles and seeing the hippies and I was too young didn’t realize exactly what it’s all about it later I figured it out
Not sure if anyone mentioned this (not going to read all comments to find out) John Sebastian played an Autoharp on this, and other recordings.
Try their song Nashville Cats
Pretty sure this is a cover . But it was new to me in my youth
“Did you ever have to make up your mind “ was their first hit around 1966 and worth a listen
Nope, not a cover written by 3 members of the lovin spoonful ✌️
1966 Biz, one of my favorite jams ever...and for 1966, doesn't it sound like a rap? I think way ahead of its time.
Finish the song. Is there a time limit on how long your video can be? Is that why you cut it off and don't go back?
That's their one an only bullet, everything else they've done is milk toasted.
