      HI Gary! I'd love to purchase the vertical planters this weekend. I didn't see the red color, only a stone, green, or terra cotta. I really like the red color though--can you see if any are left or give us a direct link to that color? Much thanks! Our garden is finally thriving due to our following all of your helpful methods!

    I love your videos, Gary! They are right on point and just what I need. I’m a beginner gardener and I’ve managed to grow a few cucumber and tomato plants and some lettuce in my backyard. My climate is similar to yours, I’m in Bulgaria (Europe). So I can follow your videos and advice right when you are showing it. Thank you so much for the great videos and keeping things simple.

    Regarding cheap organic fertilizer... try contacting local bulk fertilizer suppliers. Oftentimes they'll fill you up a 5 gallon bucket for a couple dollars. My local supplier will even give me a mix of different feed types to adjust the N-P-K.

    Thanks for all your videos. Second year Gardner here. One question I can't seem to find answered anywhere is how to deal with tomato branches that split or bend terribly at the weight of large tomatoes. I have a lot of large tomatoes growing right now, but many of the branches off the main stem are bending at 90 degree angles (or worse), or splitting because of the weight of the tomatoes. Any solutions? Or just let it go?

      I direct sow. In early august, I will plant broccoli, Brussels and cauliflower. I will do lots of greens. I can get in more zukes and cukes in July too. I will also put some potatoes in toward the end of July.

      @@THERUSTEDGARDEN thanks Gary. I still have cauliflower and broccoli planted in late may starting to head up, I’m concerned the heat will prevent them from doing so, but it would break my heart to cut them all down without giving them a chance to finish. I have a shade cloth but it won’t work where I have them planted. They are in containers and raised beds. I companion planted them (foolishly) with pole beans and cukes. The beans and cukes are flourishing but the brassicas are way behind. The containers brassicas are very large and appear to be closing in the middle presumably to head up.

    Wow! The stuff you use is CONCENTRATED if only 2 ounces per gallon turns water brown. (It is a little scary looking.) I make home made compost tea with lots of other things added (herbs, epsom salts, worm castings, kelp, other sea veggies, molasses to it and add 8 oz of it to a gallon and don't get brown water. I also feel safe using it more than once a month.

    • @THERUSTEDGARDEN
      @THERUSTEDGARDEN  Před 2 lety

      Yea, you could use less. As a concentrate, it goes a long way. This is quicker than what you do but I also like blending my own at times. Their site talks about what it is made from.

      Not every one can easily get it. And bone meal is a base in much of the organic granular to start. Really depends on how much you feel just phosphorous matters in higher concentrations. I am finding its not the % in a product. Its just that it is available in low amounts steadily over the season.

    My tomatoes are doing very well so far, they are healthy and even started fruiting. But this year it seems all the branches of my plants insist on growing straight down and touching the ground. No idea why this is happening. But if I were to prune off the branches touching the ground it’d have almost no leaves. Really strange and annoying. Any idea what is causing this? It’s giving me anxiety because every time it rains debris gets splattered all over the leaves and it’s only a matter of time until I have a disease outbreak.

    • @THERUSTEDGARDEN

    So that is why my tomatoes are cracking! I'm using big huge woodchips, which are stealing the nitrogen!! It's so disheartening to me, as I've never been able to grow a good tomato because of cracking and end rot. But this I can fix!

    • @THERUSTEDGARDEN

      On top of the soil big chips wont hurt. Just don't mix them in. They crack because of uneven moisture. No rain, tons of rain. Dry soil than a big watering. Some varieties crack more.
