  • If you're new to engineering, these drawings can seem confusing and overwhelming. But don't worry, we're here to help. In this video, we'll explain the important parts of an engineering drawing and what they mean.
Let's start with the title block. This is typically located on the right-hand side or bottom-right corner of the drawing and contains important information such as the title of the drawing, the author, the date, and any other relevant information. It's important to review this information carefully before starting to work with the drawing.
The revision block is another important part of the engineering drawing. It contains information about any changes that have been made to the drawing. This can include the date of the change, who made the change, and a description of the change. It's important to review the revision block to ensure you're working with the most up-to-date version of the drawing.
The scale is another important part of the engineering drawing. It tells you the ratio of the drawing to the actual size of the object. This is crucial for accurately measuring and creating the object based on the drawing. Placing a graphical scale is very useful to ensure that the drawing was printed to scale as well.
The notes section contains additional information that may not be included in the other parts of the drawing. This could include instructions for assembly or additional specifications for certain parts of the object.
The views show you different areas of the floorplan, reflected ceiling plan, elevations, or sections. These are typically labeled with letters such as "A", "B", and "C". It's important to label the views properly so it is easier to understand what building, floor, and area this view is showing. Always include grids so that it gives the viewer some guidance and reference points on where to look.
So, now that you understand the important parts of an engineering drawing, you'll be better equipped to work with drawing sets effectively. Remember to always review the title block, scale, views, revision block, and notes section carefully to ensure you have the most up-to-date information. By following these guidelines, you'll be able to create and work with drawing sets with ease.
