    Some highlights and impressions of a Harbor Freight powered crosskart. The VF-1 chassis is perfect for any engine; even off the shelf generator style engines. The best part of having a high performance budget crosskart; nothing ever breaks! This has 100's of hours of hard driving fun and is RARELY down for maintenance. It is an absolute thrill to drive for anyone and is an awesome way to get into crosskarting. And with the KJ Raycing VF-1 frame, if you want to upgrade just put a new engine in and run a chain to the Homebrew rear carrier. I love this sport and the builders and the events and everything about it. See you guys soon at the next event. 🦾

      With your building skills, I'm surprised you're not building snowmobiles / snow karts. Snow has generally lower friction in ideal conditions and would probably allow for greater speed and slides with the same power. EDIT: as in vehicles on skis and propelled by tracks.

      Yeah, but the difference is the fact that crosskarts have inline four motorcycle engines not lawnmower engines. That's why they don't exist in America. Best drivers in the world are from Finland and that's where the majority of crosskarts are. They are not toys like this. This looks like it could be a great time but in no way is it a crosskart

    The longer I live the more I think this is the sweet spot for reliability, low cost, safety and fun. Dirt bikes are awesome, but not something most people can easily ride/fit on unless you have a bunch of bikes. Pre runners are sick, but to make them safe and fun, you're going to spend SO much time and money getting the suspension built, dialed, frame stiffened, then you need more power etc. side by sides are sweet but the ones that are really fun to drive aren't exactly cheap at all.
    With these you've got a full cage and super low center of gravity, very unlikely to roll and way safer than say a quad if you roll it.
    Way easier to fix than a proper vehicle that weighs 4 or 5000 lbs with a cage in it too.

    Great looking machines. I build an all terrain cart back in 1999, but no top cage. It just had a 5hp B&S with CVT. That's what a lot of carts were using then, and the B&S had a lot of aftermarket parts available. It's still sitting in my shed. It was a lot of fun, and would go just about anywhere I wanted. Not as fun as these designs though.

    Awesome little build! If I can make one suggestion... put in a firewall, top to bottom. I watched one of your other videos, great build, but it had a radiator on top... if a hose breaks/leaked while you were riding, odds are you'll be in the icu. The firewall doesn't need to be fire proof, it just needs to keep the the stuff separate from you.

    I love your passion and this kart's design and execution. I know this probably won't be popular, but having this in electric would be awesome. It doesn't need a big motor or battery as you don't drive long distances. Any kind of maintenance would go away and it would of course be quiet. The center of gravity would probably also be even lower. Then of course there is the low end torque and the fact you don't need any kind of clutch.

    When going offroad its best to have torque rather then horse power type of engine, choosing the right engine for the project build its the very first priority for builder, because its also lead to money cost later.

    Original plan for mine was a small simple crosskart... but it didn't stay that way. Now we are building a V8 305 powered two seater oversized side-by-side! We went big.
    The majority of the frame is finished fabricated, I was thinking of making some videos on it... but I'm not a very smooth talker! haha
    We shall see.

    Has anyone done a cargo mod with cargo cells on the sides or rear? These would make sick camping rigs. Also a place for a second guy to stand and clip in on the back would be a cool mod, dudes could mount a rifle to the roof and go hug hunting. The military did something similar with sand rails, which these remind me of.

      If you read the description at kj-raycing.dpdcart.com it shows everything included; which is plans for all the jigs, frame, rear a arms and hooking protection. If you are referring to the jigs I bolted to the wheels they are too simple to be made into plans and vary by tire size you are using and bolt pattern of the hubs. I walk you through exactly how to male them in a video. Enjoy the build 🦾

    that torquey engine does a great job. Plus you wouldn't have had 50 successful test rides w/ a shifter Crosskart! W/o some shifting/ignition gizmos you'd have a shredded transmission. Question...what purpose does the 'U' linkage and tie rods on the rear suspension serve? It seems the heim joints have the rear A arms under control. Great looking build and really nice work.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Very true! Those engines may not have a lot of power but they can run. I put a rear anti-sway bar on the back to give steering back to the front and prevent rollovers. I get them for $15 off ebay from parted out utility atv’s. Thank you so much!

    • @samj1185
      @samj1185 Před 3 měsíci

      @@KJRaycing Ahh, gotcha. so when the compression side moves 'up' the sway bar pivots, transferring upward force to the other arm causing it to compress slightly and reduce overall body roll, correct? Looking forward to more builds.

    I purchased plans but the die I have is a 7” clr. Wondering if you could convert the measurements over through your software or if you know of a way to make everything work right.

    • @KJRaycing
      @KJRaycing  Před 3 měsíci

      7” clr is too big to make a good crosskart with. The plans and frame itself are VERY forgiving to multiple clrs. But the biggest that has been used is 6”. Honestly I would look at getting the correct die for your machine if you want to build a crosskart. I wish it could be easier. I wish you the best.

    i run single cyl 2 stroke Rotax's from the late 60s early 70s. my 318cc (Ol' Dependable) maybe 17hp runs real strong until you get it in really dry sand then ya better keep it moving. my 335cc 20hp? has no trouble in the sand. i have a 292cc racing motor that i havent put in yet but cant wait to get it in there its rated at 22hp. and yea big difference in just a couple horse.
    i agree and so do all my riders/drivers. you don't need to be doing 100mph to have fun. i geared mine to run 45 at 6,000rpm. on the trails here in Michigan that's faster you want to go as I'm on the under 50" trails. like you i have never had anyone get off the cart and say "That Was Boring". my father raced snowmobiles back in the day and taught me to set up a clutch and torque converter so them little 40lb 2 strokes (including the clutch) are really responsive to the throttle.
