    • @TCG90
      @TCG90 Před 3 lety +2

      Very much so
      In a standard Irish style button accordion, you have 4 set's of reeds
      Reeds 1 - flat (than pitch)
      Reeds 2 - on pitch
      Reeds 3 - sharp (than pitch)
      Reeds 4 - octave lower than pitch
      It's the same concept, the lower set of reeds act as a backing to the main set of reeds.
      It gives a full rich sound, as does this singing

    In the days I went a courtin', I was never tired resortin'
    To an alehouse or a playhouse and many's the house beside
    But I told me brother Seamus, I'd go off and be right famous
    And I'd never would return again till I'd roam the world wide
    Goodbye Muirsheen Durkin, I'm sick and tired of workin'
    No more, I'll dig the prates and no longer, I'll be fooled
    As sure as me name is Carney, I'll be off to Californy
    Where instead of diggin' prates, I'll be diggin' lumps of gold
    I've courted girls in Blarney, in Kanturk and in Killarney
    In Passage and in Queenstown that is the Cobh of Cork
    Goodbye to all this pleasure and I'll be off to take me leisure
    And the next time that you hear from me will be a letter from New York
    Goodbye Muirsheen Durkin, oh, I'm sick and tired of workin'
    No more, I'll dig the prates and no longer, I'll be fooled
    As sure as me name is Carney, I'll be off to Californy
    Where instead of diggin' prates, I'll be diggin' lumps of gold
    Goodbye to all the girls at home, I'm going far across the foam
    To try and make me fortune in far America
    There's gold and jewels in plenty for the poor and for the gentry
    And when I return again I never more will say
    Goodbye Muirsheen Durkin, sure I'm sick and tired of workin'
    No more, I'll dig the prates and no longer, I'll be fooled
    As sure as me name is Carney, I'll be off to Californy

    @crusherbmx Ireland is the only country in the world whose population is lower now than in the time of Napoleon, in every other country the population is higher. In other words, we have had a lot of practice over a long time period writing/singing " leaving Ireland" songs.

    I heard John say in an interview that they were meant to sing Seven Drunken Nights, but Ed Sullivan who was very conservative wouldn’t let them when he saw the lyrics. Muirsheen Durkin was a last minute replacement

    Thanks for your service mate. Welcome to your discovery of Luke. He was for the miners, the underdogs, the working man. He had a great affinity for Britain even tho he was a proud Irishman. Luke would have wanted the Brits & the Irish resolve their grievances in the pub over a pint and a sing-song.

      Ronnie's voice wasn't half bad but Luke's edges it and Has probably the best voice of Ireland. Irish Music. Plus a very simple man that had great political views. Nearly Allways got the Bus. He was absolutely bleading deadly.

    As I heard it, Ed Sullivan barred the Dubliners after this show. He had heard them in rehearsal sing the phrase "and many's the house besides" and he said that they could not sing that on his show. They sang it anyway. He was furious. So, his show made The Clancy Brothers famous in America, but killed The Dubliners.

    • @danielmccree3195
      @danielmccree3195 Před 9 lety +4

      Interesting, never knew that. I knew something similar happened to The Doors for singing a lyric suggesting drug use but never knew it happened to the Dubliners as well

    • @dominiccolgan6759
      @dominiccolgan6759 Před 8 lety +2

      Is that a fact? Well the swinging sixties weren't so swinging in America then.I don't suppose Leonard Cohen got on his show then with his far more explicit lyrics

      lewbook from what I can gather from an interview with the dubs, it was seven drunken nights they were banned from singing as it was an immoral song, and they sang this instead, which wasn't much better 😂
